Clash of Clans World Championship 2020: All you need to know

Supercell and ESL have announced Clash of Clans World Championship 2020 with a prize pool of $1,000,000! With the 2020 World Championship about to begin, the future is looking incredibly bright for Clash of Clans esports.

Clamp down on the opponents

The format of the tournament is similar to what happened in 2019. Teams will have to participate in monthly in-game clan war leagues or ESL Play Cups to qualify for the monthly offline qualifiers.

The top four clans from the clan war leagues and the top four from the ESL Play Cups will be participating in the monthly offline qualifier at the ESL Arena Katowice.

Clash of Clans World Championship 2020 format

1. ESL Play or In-game Clan war league

Gather your clan and get ready for the battle of a lifetime, because the World Championships are returning this year! Similarly to 2019, there are two paths to the top:

  • In-game pre-qualifier
  • ESL Play pre-qualifier

2. Monthly Offline Qualifiers in ESL arena Katowice

The first round of qualifiers begins on Saturday, February 1st, 2020.

The top eight teams (four from in-game Clan War Leagues and four from ESL Play) will have the chance to play in the monthly offline qualifier that takes place in Katowice, Poland.

3. Grand Finals

If your clan manages to prove themselves at Katowice, you’ll advance to the World Championships later this year! The last stage will feature six qualified teams and two community favorite wildcards.

ESL Play pre-qualifier:

  • Each pre-qualifier will take place from the 12th through the 14th of each month between February and July 2020.
  • The top 4 winning teams will advance to the monthly Katowice, Poland Offline Qualifier.
  • ESL Play Pre-Qualifier format:
    • 5v5 Town Hall 13 Friendly Wars
    • 15-minute preparation, 1-hour War
    • Single elimination, Best of One (winners advance after one played the match in each round)

New Changes for the 2020 Qualifiers

In order to allow more time for visa applications and for acquiring necessary documents, the organizers have increased the time between the Pre-Qualifier and the Katowice Qualifier tournament.
