PUBG Mobile: Indian Squads will not be able to compete in PMPL 2020 South Asia

Comes as a big blow to the Indian PUBG fans

After India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology banned 177 Apps in two trenches including Arena Of Valor, PUBG Mobile, and Mobile Legends to name a few, reports are now coming in from AFK Gaming that the qualified Indian Squads will not compete in PMPL 2020 South Asia (PUBG Mobile Pro League).

It is reported that the decision was taken in a call held between teams and the PUBG Mobile Esports director, James Yang.

Effects of Indian Squad not competing in PMPL 2020 South Asia

The PUBG Mobile Pro League South Asia has been heavily dominated by Indian teams. The reason being, it is the top market for the title in terms of the player base, and all 24 teams in the season were already confirmed before the ban on September 2, 2020. For PUBG Mobile, India was the biggest region and was downloaded by more than 185.5 million accounts in the country. You can understand this from the fact that 17 out of the 24 teams were based out of India. For example, Orange Rock, TSM Entity, Nova GodLike, Fnatic, Team SouL, etc will not be able to participate after this decision.

Earlier, it was said that the teams physically present in other countries could be allowed to play the league. But after this decision, all the hopes of India teams have been shattered. According to the schedule released earlier, PMPL South Asia was to start from this month but now it has been postponed after the game was banned in India.

Is this the end for Indian PUBG Mobile Squads?

Nothing can be said as of now. Various reports suggest that developers and publishers are in contact with the Indian authorities in order to unban their games. We will update once any constructive decision is taken by the authorities.
