FIFA Mobile 20: Reviewing the Icons Set 5

Icons have been in-game for the past five months now. These former football legends who have made their mark in history are obtainable through the completion of SBCs. With twelve new icons released each month, grab your all-time idols in the all-new FIFA Mobile 20 Icons SBC. This new fresh batch of twelve icons will be available for a total of 4 weeks. Take your time in deciding which will be the best for your squad. We have carefully reviewed and analyzed their costs and playstyles to assist you in figuring out how we can get the best out of them in-game.

Note: In each icons review of FIFA Mobile 20, there is an estimation of the price. Do not use this as an accurate representation. It is only an estimate, where the cost of the SBCs is calculated in terms of each SBC costing 1 million coins. The costs for training the players have been taken from the FifaRenderz website.

Michael Essien (CDM)

  • Skill boost: Box-to-box
  • Traits: Long shot taker
  • Requirements: 100 Icon Points, 12 Championship Points

Cost: 3 Major SBCs minimum to get enough of both points, this will cost an average of 2 million coins

Overview

This is a great Box-to-box midfielder with everything you would want. It shares some similarities with the Atlantis Jorginho (96). You could partner the 2 up in a 2-CDM formation and you will have a solid combo. Although low-rated at first, Essien has the potential to be great with upgrades, however, this may be a little too costly, you may be better off with Jorginho instead, which will be much cheaper.

VSA

With the Box-to-box skill boost, this FIFA Mobile 20 Icons card will prove to be incredibly useful. It is pretty strong when upgraded and it also has some decent defending attributes. The card’s long shots are the stand-out feature, especially with the trait and the skill boost combined, however, the shot-power is a little low, which may be a problem for you. Overall, this is a decent CDM which can be a useful asset to your team after some significant upgrades.

FIFA Mobile 20 Icons

H2H

Obviously, this card is best off as a box-to-box midfielder, it has good defending and attacking skills as well as High/High work rates, it should be all over the pitch during the game. Due to the high agility, balance, and reactions, Essien will manage to act fast in small spaces and secure complete possession of the ball, however, the low dribbling stats will mean that bad touches will appear often, its best to release the ball from Essien as soon as possible

Rio Ferdinand (CB)

  • Skill boost: Marking
  • Traits:  Power Header
  • Requirements: 150 Icon Points, 14 Legacy Points

Cost: 3 Major SBCs for both types of points, which would cost around 3 million coins

Overview

This new batch brings another FIFA mobile 20 Icons CB in the form of the English legend, Rio Ferdinand, having a look at this card gives a sort of flashback to Icon Sol Campbell. They both have very similar stats and the same skill boost. The skill boost is good for VSA, it’s a fast CB, with good stats, it can head the ball well and that’s about it.

VSA

This is a decent card for VSA, best placed in the middle of a back 3 if that is what you use. With the Marking boost, this is an all-round decent card, you will need to upgrade this card quite a bit to get the most of out of it, however.

FIFA Mobile 20 Icons

H2H

This card has no special abilities, apart from the good heading, and so you there really is no point in getting this card as there are many better options, unless you are a fan of Ferdinand. In that case, you would want him in your team and he will perform well like any other decent CB. Overall, this is a very decent card, who will go boom at corners due to his Power Header trait.

Filippo Inzaghi (ST)

  • Skill boost: Poacher
  • Traits: Tries to beat the offside trap, Selfish
  • Requirements: 200 Icon Points, 16 History Points

Cost: 4 Major SBCs which would cost an average of about 4 million coins

Overview

In FIFA Mobile 20, this Icons card is not worth your time or money, you are better off with any other striker available on the market. On the other hand, if you are a fan of this card rather than a competitive FIFA player, you may decide to work for him, just remember that this card won’t be very good for you.

VSA

Due to this being a very generic ST, it will perform as good as any other half-decent striker in the game. Don’t expect anything special here, just a basic striker that can score goals, not much else to say about this card here.

FIFA Mobile 20 Icons

H2H

Don’t be fooled by the traits, he will not beat the offside trap very well because he is too slow, and his low agility stats will mean that his selfishness will lose you the ball very often. Not recommended for any competitive play but especially worse in H2H

Clarence Seedorf (CM)

  • Skill boost: Captain
  • Traits: Long shot taker
  • Requirements: 250 Icon Points and 18 Honor Points

Cost: A minimum of 5 Major SBCs are required which should cost a total of around 5 million coins

Overview

This is possibly one of the better cards of this set and it shares similarities with Icon Gullit. All the stats are very well-rounded and this will make a very useful part of your team. The only problem is that at this point in the game, there will be a lot of CMs like this, which are all much cheaper to use. The positives of using Seedorf are that he is a legend of football and he provides good chemistry links, if these don’t matter to you, you should find a better alternative on the market

VSA

This is a great card for any purpose, you can rely on it to do anything because of its well-balanced stats. It will manage to help you in attack quite well, however, the defensive stats being low compared to the rest will mean that it won’t be a problem for your opposition.

FIFA Mobile 20 Icons

H2H

Seedorf is possibly best suited for VSA, it has everything you will need to succeed in your midfield. It is probably best played on its own, be sure to allow it to roam around the center of the pitch, where it will work its magic best. If you had to partner it with someone, you should use a defensive CM which can provide defense in the middle like UTOTSSF Henderson which will allow Seedorf to attack freely.

Juan Riquelme (CAM)

  • Skill boost: Free Kick
  • Traits: Flair, Playmaker, Outside foot shot
  • Requirements: 300 Icon Points, 20 Career Points

Cost: At least 6 Major SBCs which should cost you around 6 million coins

Overview

Definitely the worst Icon so far stats-wise, it is slow and has a bad skill boost, if you don’t care about the name, you should avoid at all costs. Any half-decent card on the market will be better than this. Despite having 2 useful skill moves in the form of Roulette and Rainbow, this card is sadly just not good at all at this stage in the game. Unfortunately, this Argentinian Legend fails to have an impact on FIFA Mobile.

VSA

Shooting stats are OK and it will take some very good free-kicks, but honestly, spending so much money on a simple free-kick taker is clearly a huge waste. As said before, this is a bad card, that should be avoided.

FIFA Mobile 20 Icons

H2H

It has some pretty decent passing stats, but apart from this, it is pretty useless. It is weak and slow which will hugely affect its in game performance. This is just an all-round waste of a player that should be a lot better.

Gary Lineker (ST)

  • Skill boost: Finishing
  • Traits: Tries to beat offside trap
  • Requirements: 400 Icon Points, 28 Championship Points

Cost: Minimum of 8 major SBCs are required which should cost around 8 million coins

Overview

This is another one of those very generic Strikers, at this point in the game, anyone would be better. The pace is a little low but the shooting is pretty good. Definitely a usable card, but it isn’t really worth the effort it requires. Most cross-spammers may be attracted to this card, but the low height makes the card unsuitable for that playstyle.

VSA

Again, like any other generic ST, it can do everything you would want a Striker to do, it isn’t special in any way but it will do the job. With the 5* weak foot rating, it will take its shots well, apart from this, there is not much to say. If you are a fan of Lineker, you will be able to use this card, otherwise, you should be searching for a better alternative.

FIFA Mobile 20 Icons

H2H

This card is a little too slow for H2H and again there are better options. With the High/Low work rates, you shouldn’t expect him to track back, he will stay upfront and he won’t come back, this makes him a decent target man. The only problem with this is that his heading stats and his height are low, don’t expect him to finish crosses.

Ryan Giggs (LM)

  • Skill boost: Counter
  • Traits: Tries to beat the offside trap, Speed dribbler
  • Requirements: 500 Icon Points 30 Honor Points

Cost: At least 10 Major SBCs which should cost around 10 million coins

Overview

Finally, a good attacking Icons from this batch of FIFA Mobile 20 appears in the form of Ryan Giggs, the Manchester United legend. This is definitely a card worth considering, however, since we are now reaching the end of the season, you will find a great amount of good quality LMs, mainly the SBC Sancho, which is the preferred card by many competitive players.

VSA

Despite the very good stats, this card just doesn’t seem to be built for VSA, mainly due to the low shot power. Because of this, any of your shots will be saved pretty easily by any half-decent GK, the whole point of VSA is to score more goals, and this will be a little more difficult with Giggs. If you do upgrade this card though, you may sense an improvement, but you’ll need a lot of coins to see much of a change.

FIFA Mobile 20 Icons

H2H

Unlike VSA, Giggs will perform at its prime in H2H, it will be especially lethal on a fast counter-attack. It has the pace and the dribbling to carry the ball long distances and if necessary, the card’s passing will enable you to fire the ball towards your attackers. Overall, Giggs will perform at its best if your playstyle consists of a fast counter.

Dennis Bergkamp (CAM)

  • Skill boost: Long Shots
  • Traits: Finesse shot, Flair
  • Requirements: 600 Icon Points, 32 Legacy Points

Cost: At least 12 major SBCs which should cost around 12 million coins

Overview

Possibly one of our most awaited cards comes in the form of the Arsenal legend, Bergkamp. At this point in the game, there are so many good CAMs available in the game, including the F2P Prime Icon Zidane, which probably a lot of competitive players would have by now. Still, Bergkamp has some great stats and a decent skill boost, definitely a usable card.

VSA

Due to the long shots boost, this card’s shooting will be quite impressive; you should be able to rely on Bergkamp to score a good amount of goals for you. The only problem with this card lies in the strength, it is a little too weak. You should aim to keep a distance and focus on only long shots with this card.

FIFA Mobile 20 Icons

H2H

This is an attacking minded CAM with an eye for scoring goals, not assisting them. If you use your CAM mostly to take long shots, then Bergkamp is your choice. On the other hand, if you desire more of a playmaker, you should probably find another CAM instead.

Kenny Dalglish (ST)

  • Skill boost: Second Striker
  • Traits: Flair, Long shot taker, Speed dribbler, Outside foot shot
  • Requirements: 700 Icon Points, 34 Career Points
  • Recommended Overall

Cost: A minimum of 14 major SBCs are required which should cost around 14 million coins

Overview

This Liverpool legend was tagged as a meta card in FIFA 20, it doesn’t look too bad in FIFA Mobile either. It has a good skill boost to start off with, some very good stats and some good traits as well. As usual, there will always be a better alternative to this Icon, as with any other Icon. Still, this card is not too bad.

VSA

Due to the high shot power, you will find that strong power shots will work best for Dalglish, finesse shots won’t be as good, though. Again, we have a weak striker, the low physical stats mean that you should stay away from big defenders, long shots are probably the best for this card.

FIFA Mobile 20 Icons

H2H

This card will perform best in a striker partnership, a taller and stronger player would be the best option. If you managed to acquire Ian Rush from the past Icon set, he will probably be the best partner for Dalglish. This card is fast but lacks the physical side, the stronger partner should complement Dalglish well.

Marco Desailly (CB)

  • Skill boost: Aggression
  • Traits: Dives into tackles, Power header
  • Requirements: 800 Icon Points, 36 History Points

Cost: At least 16 Major SBCs which is about 16 million coins

Overview

This is probably one of the more disappointing cards of the set. The aggression boost is possibly the worst part, many players will be put off by this. The stats are OK but you would expect more from a CB with this overall rating. The headers are above average, especially with the power header, but at this stage in the game, you’ll find a lot of CBs like this that are better and cheaper.

VSA

He has some very good defending and physical stats, but the fact that he will dive into tackles means that once you manage to get around him, he will not recover quickly enough. This will give your opponent a clear path to score. You should play him in a back 3 to ensure that you still have 2 other CBs for support.

FIFA Mobile 20 Icons

H2H

As in VSA, the dives into tackles trait and the low pace will mean that recovery will be very difficult. The good heading stats will protect you from cross-spammers and may score you some goals as well. But let’s be honest, there are a ton of CBs all over the market which can do the same thing and they are much cheaper.

Thierry Henry (LW)

  • Skill boost: Attacking
  • Traits: Tries to beat offside trap, Finesse shot, Flair, Speed dribbler, Playmaker
  • Requirements: 900 Icon Points, 38 Legacy Points

Cost: At least 18 Major SBCs which equates to around 18 million coins

Overview

Probably one of the best, if not the best cards from this Icon batch comes in the form of Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry. Honestly, everything about this card is good, stats are high, skill boost is good and there are a ton of good traits. The only problem is that it is an LW; now that many are starting to claim the 104 Hazard, Henry may be left out. Nevertheless, this is still a very good card

VSA

The high shooting stats make this a lethal card in VSA, it will do just about everything it needs and more, the physical stats are low but there are a lot higher than many LWs. Definitely a good quality card for VSA.

FIFA Mobile 20 Icons

H2H

Like in VSA, this card will perform really well in H2H as well, it fits the pace meta well, and it cuts in on the right foot perfectly. Shots from long distances will work very well for Henry, and the dribbling will allow it to get close to the goal as well. Overall, a great card to use, obviously 104 Hazard is a better option but Henry is nothing bad either.

Ronaldo (ST)

  • Skill boost: Acceleration
  • Traits: Tries to beat offside trap, Finesse shot, Speed dribbler
  • Requirements: 1150 Icon Points, 44 Championship Points

Cost: A minimum of 23 Major SBCs is required which would cost around 23 million coins

Overview

Once again, EA comes at us with another high-level card with a low-level skill boost. However, this time the great R9 is fitted with the acceleration boost, which isn’t too bad at all. After having seen the highest-rated Icons in previous sets, it seems as though these cards are meant to be played on a casual level, rather than competitive play.

VSA

Shooting stats are high as they should be, strength is also very good and so you will finally be able to run at the opponent’s defense without having to worry about getting pushed off the ball. Overall, a good card for VSA, maybe a little expensive but it will definitely be worth it for casual players.

FIFA Mobile 20 Icons

H2H

It may not seem like it but this card will be great for H2H, due to the acceleration skill boost. At this point in the game, you’ll find a ton of fast CBs in a team in order to counter the pace meta. It’s now gotten to the point where it is less about who has the highest top speed and more about who reaches the top speed faster. The acceleration boost is much better at this stage of the season than it was at the start, this means that R9 is a much better card than people take it to be.

Having a highly upgraded acceleration boost will mean that this card will reach top speed a lot faster than any other player, and so it will be hard for any defender to catch up by the time they are running at top speed as well. Overall, R9 will be a very decent card to use.

Sayak Mitra

There isn’t an exact date as the answer lies in when will the current season end and the new season begin. What we can say we will at least see one more new set of icons or even two! Cheers!
