Best Runes Setup and Spells for Sona in Wild Rift

Runes Setup

Wild Rift Sona Guide

Aery

As Sona, you want to have additional damage and healing stats to compensate for your low basic stats, which are provided through Aery.

Brutal

You would want to take Brutal to boost Sona´s weak Attack Power stats, especially for the beginning of the match.

Loyalty

This rune is a standard pick up for a lot of supports, because not only do you gain armor but also you grant it to your ally as well.

Manaflow Band

The early game is Sona´s weakest phase because her spells take a lot of mana to cast. Therefore taking a rune which increases your mana overall is quite essential. Not only will her early game improve but it will also make her able to spam her abilities in the following game phases.

Battle Spells

Flash

Flash is almost every champions 1st summoner spell, especially for someone lacking escape abilities such as Sona.

Either Ignite or Heal

It depends on your own playstyle and what spell your ADC is taking. For aggressive gameplay with your ADC already having to Heal you might pick Ignite. Taking Heal is beneficial if your Duo partner has Barrier and if you consider synergizing with items such as Harmonic for example.

League of Legends: Wild Rift Sona Gameplay Tips

We already established that Sona is a Support best suited to being played in the Dragon Lane. Always remember that the Wild Rift’s Map is a mirror so make sure you understand the map side before starting to lane. According to her gameplay, we can break it down into three phases. Our League of Legends: Wild Rift Sona guide includes the perfect game plan for the early, mid, and late game.

Early Game

As we already established Sona´s weakest phase is the early game. Due to her high mana costing abilities combined with her low mana you have to use your abilities wisely. Making it up for this are the big range and the autofocusing attacks of her abilities. So as Sona you can successfully poke the enemies away while not getting hit. After unlocking all her abilities at level 5 you can try some risky plays if your ADC joins.

With her, Ultimate Sona can keep both duo laners at a place while the ADC goes in on them. If they try to run away Sona´s passive as Song of Celerity will slow them down so there is so escape. This ability also helps Sona to roam to the mid-lane/jungle if an opportunity occurs.

Mid Game

After clearing your lane you can start/continue your roaming phase to support your allies. Especially for all the big objectives such as Dragon or Herold, you should try to help your teammates as much as possible. As support, you want to be part of every team fight healing and making your ally fast while also giving out damage from a safe position.

Sona´s Ultimate is usually a good first engage especially if all enemies are piled up at one spot. Making them stop and listen to your melodies will give your teammates the best opportunity to attack.

Late Game

Sona´s late game is her strongest phase. She scales really strong by having almost unlimited Mana when equipped with the right items. This also makes her spam her abilities continually throughout all team fights. Sona´s main focus is to keep your team safe by healing them and make them juke attack by improving their movement speed.

Her ultimate is a great way to start every team fight as well or to punish enemies who are solo and/or overextending. You might want to try specific skill combos like this to unleash her full potential.

Sona could technically be played with a lot of ADC but she truly forms the strongest pairs and serves as Best Combos with Jinx, Draven, and Ezrael.

Final thoughts

Sona is a great champion with a strong supporting skill set, making her viable support in almost every team composition. Her ability to poke while keeping a good distance while keeping all her allies at full health is what distinguishes her from a lot of champions. Even though her early game is lackluster, you will feel much stronger once you reached the late game phase. At that point, she is a power to be reckoned with!
