Candy Crush Became Top-Grossing Franchise on the US App Store in Q1 2020

Activision Blizzard, in its Q1 2020 Results Conference Call, announced that the King’s mobile games garnered 273 million MAU (Monthly Active Users). King Digital Entertainment is the video game developer popularly known for the hit mobile Match 3 puzzle franchise Candy Crush. In Q1, Candy Crush franchise MAU’s grew Y/Y in each month of the quarter, with double-digit growth in March. Therefore, making Candy Crush a Top-grossing Franchise in Q1 of 2020 on the US App Store.

King is led by Riccardo Zacconi and was acquired by Activision Blizzard in February 2016 for $5.9 billion. Activision is behind franchises like Call of Duty, and World of Warcraft. King operates as its own entity within Activision. According to the data disclosed during the Conference Call, King had a Monthly Active User of 273 million. Overall Activision Blizzard had 407 million active users across properties. It also came to notice that King’s games had more rounds played than in any quarter since Activision bought the company in 2016.

COVID-19 has given a big push

Since COVID-19 declared a pandemic, it was first the financial report. Not only Candy Crush Became Top-Grossing on US App Store but also the total amount spent on the Activision’s products soared 21% Y/Y to $1.52 billion. Activision’s stock soared nearly 4% in the after-hours trading.
