eFootball PES 2020: Konami to lose AC Milan & Inter Milan license

eFootball PES 2020 publishers Konami today confirmed that they are going to lose the official license of partner clubs AC Milan & Inter Milan after deciding against contract renewal with both clubs. While PES players are already unhappy about Konami not getting the license of major European clubs, this will surely draw more criticism from the players. Well, let’s see how things will be affected in-game after Konami lose the license of partner clubs AC Milan and Inter Milan.

How will things be affected in-game?

Previously due to licensing contract terminations, players of many likes have been removed from the game, also Konami lost the right to use the Club’s name in-game. For example, Liverpool was renamed as Liverpool R after Konami’s contract with the current EPL Champions was terminated back in 2019. Also, few days back, some Borussia Dortmund players including captain Marco Reus were removed from PES due to licensing issues.

Will AC Milan & Inter Milan have different names in PES 2021?

Konami stated in their notice that the representation of the clubs will not be affected in-game, which probably means that names of the clubs AC Milan & Inter Milan will still not be changed in the next version of PES. Konami still will hold the naming rights of the Milan clubs thanks to their exclusive partnership with Serie A.

The reason behind the contract termination may be that Konami are gearing up for signing partnerships with other European Giants for acquiring their licences, like they did last year with Manchester United, Bayern Munich & Juventus. However, if that happens, Konami will definitely send out a strong message to the players as well as their rivals EA Sports.

What will happen to AC Milan & Inter Milan MyClub players & Legends?

In eFootball PES 2020, Liverpool legends like M.Owen & S.Gerrard were removed after Konami lost the license of Liverpool. Both Milan clubs AC Milan & Inter Milan have many popular Legends in-game, with the likes of P.Maldini, R.Gullit, F.Inzaghi, F.Baresi from AC Milan & Adriano, J.Zanetti, E.Cambiasso, F.Toldo from Inter Milan. There are also other legends, Iconic Moments and featured players from these two clubs previously released through packs in-game.

Konami have stated that players can rest assured as this termination of the licensing contract with AC Milan & Inter Milan will not affect MyClub players. If you have players from these two clubs, they’ll still be available in-game like normal players. So that’s definitely good news for all PES players having AC Milan & Inter Milan players & legends in their squad.

Regarding future announcements

Konami have not revealed anything about license contract terminations with other clubs but there’s a hint that more news will be coming in the near future. They have asked players to wait until any further announcements.

Konami said that both Milan clubs have been strong advocates for the eFootball PES series. They also wished the clubs all the best for the future. They are optimistic for future associations with other clubs as well.

Moving forwards, we will continue to strengthen existing partnerships and foster new relationships in order to provide the best possible eFootball experience.

We hope that Konami will acquire licenses of other big clubs all around the globe after they lose the license of two big Italian clubs AC Milan & Inter Milan. With that, we look forward to PES 2021.

No big deal IMO… Why pay to be a partner when you have the Seria A licence?Only issue could be if the Milans are going their own way in terms of licencing like Juve have.Even then though it’s PES, we patch.
