Mighty DOOM: Alpha Dog’s new take on Bethesda’s popular classic is now on early access

Descend into iconic world of DOOM!

It appears Bethesda Softworks studio Alpha Dogs, who have extensive experience with mobile gaming has been steadily developing a DOOM spin-off title: Mighty DOOM for the Android platform now available for testing as early access. Alpha Dogs were acquired by Bethesda Softworks in 2019 and they’ve recently developed some mobile games such as MonstroCity: Rampage and Wraithborne.

Mighty DOOM features several DOOM-like abilities from the original game

The DOOM spin-off is titled Mighty DOOM, it is a top-down action shooter where (you) a Doom Slayer go up against demons while trying to avoid enemies’ fire and unexpected traps in order to safely make it across what seems to be a room-based level.

The game also allows you to gain cool abilities like attack speed boost, glory kill splash damage, and the diagonal shot using a random card-based system. Most gamers would find it obvious how the game is largely inspired by Archero, another popular game on mobile. Yet somehow in Mighty Doom, literally everything is Doom-styled.

The game has been hiding in plain sight for a long time

Furthermore, Mighty Doom is not a new Android title. The game has actually been hiding in the Google Play Store for quite a number of months but became incredibly difficult to spot since it doesn’t allow the majority of people to search or install and give it a try.

Mighty Doom Gameplay early access

The game remains in a tightly sealed beta and neither Bethesda nor Alpha Dogs have made an official expansion assignment for the game’s early access program or even publicly announce the availability of the closed beta. Meanwhile, if you are among the lucky ones who have access to this test, you can download it from the Play Store here.

Despite its ugly history with mobile, does Microsoft still plan to bring AAA titles to mobile

Considering the fact that Alpha Dog is now owned by Bethesda, this is good news for mobile gamers as it means there are going to be more interested players that are curious in seeing how the mobile platform performs in due time. Mighty Doom is yet another discreet attempt to try and optimize the AAA franchise to the mobile platform.

This will not be the first time Microsoft has tried bringing some of its best titles to mobile with its most recent inclusion being Forza Street but the game just enters into the long line of flopped Microsoft ports to mobile. Mighty Doom does showcase promising features from the looks of it and if it ever gets an expanded or full global release, it’ll be very cool if Microsoft can meet expectations and hopefully bring a small percentage of the DOOM experience to mobile.
