Olympic Esports Games will take place in 2027, confirmed by the IOC
After much drama and waiting, esports fans are finally going to witness the greatest show on earth’s esports version. In 2027, the inaugural event will take place in Saudi Arabia. The Esports World Cup Foundation will help the IOC in shaping tournament structures & game selection to ensure a world-class competition. It will also ensure a qualification process by aligning competitive integrity through global standards, and drive innovation in esports.
The IOC also partnered with the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee (SOPC) to ensure a smooth operation till the end. Creating the roadmap for the upcoming event will start this year. Before getting a confirmed date for the inaugural event, it was scheduled to take place this year. However, the absence of a proper guideline, qualification process, and financial issues led the event to be delayed.
Olympic Esports Games 2025 had to be delayed as the Organizers needed more time
While the news surfaced, SportBusiness pointed out the key reasons behind the delay in schedule. Both the game publishers and organizers need time to prepare for the event. Olympic Esports Games 2025 was to take place in Saudi Arabia. However, it took time to declare the titles, and also, the financial mechanism was not set up.
Besides, the event couldn’t provide details on the venue, and a complete schedule. Though Saudi Arabia arranged it, the publishers were concerned about several issues. There was no roadmap for the teams’ qualification process.

As the esports teams are organization-based, it was unclear how the players would participate. Thus, the organizers had no choice but to wait to outline everything along with a proper roadmap and come up with something feasible for everyone.
We witnessed big esports events from individual publishers and combined grand events like the Esports World Cup. However, the greatest show on earth was just around the corner from making an impact. Olympic Esports Games 2025, though delayed, will leave a strong mark.
