Cookie Run: Kingdom Guide: Best ways to earn and spend your Gems

Collect and utilise the best practices to save your Gems!

Cookie Run: Kingdom– Kingdom Builder & Battle RPG game is a new addition to the famous Cookie Run RPG game series. It was released in January 2021 and is available on iOS and Android platforms. One can easily download it from Google Play and the App Store. This game is about building a dream Cookie Kingdom while fighting against evil desert monsters. Star jellies are an important resource in the Cookie Run Kingdom. Gems (also referred to as Crystals) are one of the main currencies in the Cookie Run Kingdom. They can be bought with real money, but there are multiple ways to get them for free too. This article will help you find out how to get gems, and also how to spend them effectively in the Cookie Run Kingdom.

1. Story mode

Clearing World Exploration stages for the first time will earn you a lot of gems, and this will serve as your primary source of gems early-game. You can earn a lot of gems just from progressing through the story, especially since collecting a lot of stars in a World rewards you additional gems too.

Getting one-third of the possible stars in a world gives 300 gems, two-thirds of the stars would give 500 gems, and completing all the stages with three stars would give you 700 gems. However, you can’t fully rely on it because at some point stages would get harder and there will come a time where you’ll get stuck on levels for days or even weeks.

2. Arena

The arena is one the best sources of gems because you just need to advance into higher ranks and by the end of the season, you’ll get thousands of gems. The maximum you can get (ranking in Master 1) is 20k gems, but you don’t need to get up into extremely high ranks since just getting into Diamond already gives you 8,000 gems.

3. Guild

Joining a good guild can give you a few thousand gems every week. A 1% guild rewards you 5,000 gems a week. It’s fairly easy to join a 1% guild in Hollyberry; generally, you’ll be able to join one if you have around 300k~ power level and can do 1m damage on the guild dragon. (However, Pure Vanilla server has higher requirements, because it’s an older server and there are more experienced players there.) Look for guild ads on social media.

4. Events

From time to time, there would be events that give gems as rewards so are sure to check the Events tab and the upcoming events in the Calendar.

5. Codes and maintenance

When there’s a major update, Devsisters usually gives out special codes that give out free gems. Be on the lookout for these because the codes will expire after some point. Devsisters tends to give players gems for compensation when they have to fix maintenance issues, so don’t forget to check your mailbox from time to time. Like codes, compensation rewards also expire after some point so be sure to check your mailbox often.

6. Packs

If you want, you can buy gems from the store with real-life money. You can buy them individually, along with packs in the store that have cookie cutters, star jellies, or rainbow cubes. There are good deals in the store from time to time. There are many ways to get gems though, so it’s not necessary to buy them.

Other miscellaneous ways

Here are other ways you can get gems. They don’t give as much as the other options in this article, but they can add up over time.

  • Achievements Tab (You can find this by going to your profile.)
  • Missions
  • Wishes and Trains (Additionally, wishes give a lot of coins and trains are a good source of rarities.)
  • Fountain (gives other rewards too like coins, materials, and speed-ups.)
  • Tropical Islands
  • Daily Gifts
  • Kingdom Pass
  • Once A Day Free Package

Now that you know the best ways to get gems, the next step is figuring out where best to spend them.

1. Gacha

As you start out in the game, your main priority is to get strong cookies so you can keep advancing through the stages. The main way to get cookies is through gacha. There are two types of banners in Cookie Gacha; there’s the featured banner and the normal banner.

The featured one has an increased chance for that particular epic cookie, while the normal banner has the same drop rate for all epics. The ancient, legendary, rare, and common drop rates are the same for both gachas.

If you want a better chance of getting previous epics, the normal gacha one is the better option. However, there are promotion events for newly released cookies, so pulling from the featured banner of that cookie is also a good option if you want to get multiple copies for more rewards.

Getting treasure tickets should be your priority after having you have all the soulstones you need because a lot of treasures provide useful bonus effects and you should focus on leveling them up too.

2. Landmarks

When you finally have a good team of cookies, you won’t need to spend gems on the gacha anymore. It would be better to start buying landmarks instead. Note that the best landmarks to buy are the ones that boost your cookie’s stats, and some of the landmarks aren’t as helpful as the other ones.

3. Sugar gnome hut

You start out with two sugar gnomes in the game. They’re your workers for when you need to make buildings in your kingdom, so it makes sense to buy an extra one so you can have three productions going on at once. While this might not seem like that much of a difference, it’s really useful especially when you start needing to level up a lot of your buildings.

4. Production Slots

As you start out in the game, production buildings would have 3-4 slots, which isn’t bad; however as you progress in the game you will find buildings that only have 2 slots (for example Creamery, Latte’s Cafe, and Toy Store.) You can buy a few extra slots for these buildings with gems so you can queue more items at a time. The first extra slot costs 300 gems.

For maximum efficiency, it’s recommended that most (if not all) of your buildings are making supplies and goods so that even while you’re not playing the game, your kingdom stays productive. This is because it’s useful to stockpile goods for wishes, trains, and trade harbor. Just remember to be mindful of your storage.

5. Other miscellaneous ways

These options aren’t a priority at all, but spending gems on these can be useful if you’re pressed for time.

Arena, ticket and stamina refills

If you’re trying to get into a higher rank at the arena, you can use gems on arena refreshes so you’ll have a new list of enemy teams to fight. Advancing to a higher rank would give you more gems when the season is over, so you’d actually be earning gems this way too. Be wary of the number of gems you spend; make sure you don’t end up losing gems!

Arena tickets and stamina are easy to come across and you can regain them over time, but you can buy them if there’s an ongoing arena or stamina event that’s about to end and you still want to get the rewards.

More bounty attempts

Generally, three bounty attempts are enough. Still, you can spend gems to get more attempts (up to 3 refills) if you need a certain type of skill powder for the cookie you’re building, especially since pink and blue skill powders are harder to come across in the game.

Buying Materials

Sometimes to upgrade production buildings you’ll need to make a time-consuming and complicated item, so just buying the item with gems might be more convenient. The same applies to upgrading storage and trading items in the Seaside Market.

While there are a lot of ways to spend gems, not all of them are useful for game progression. It’s good to know which methods of spending gems are actually wasteful, so you can maximize efficiency.

1. Skipping production time

Most of the time you won’t need to skip production time, but if you really need to you can use speed-ups instead. You get a lot of speed-ups from events and Fountain Of Abundance, so using gems just to skip waiting times would be a waste.

These are pure decoration, and unlike landmarks, they serve no purpose and give no bonuses at all. A lot of them cost a bunch of gems too, so it’s not recommended to buy them. If you’re a player who just wants to play casually, there’s no problem in buying them if you feel like decorating your kingdom, but if you’re more serious about progressing in the game then buying them would be a big waste of gems.

3. Converting Gems to Coins

Finally, there’s an option to convert gems to coins in the store, but you’re strongly advised not to do this because it’s a thousand times easier to earn coins than gems. (If you need coins, doing wishes are a good way to get them.)
