Gameplay Overview

So, Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra is not like your typical MOBA game. It supports a unique two-lane map structure so that players can feel a faster-paced, open, and circular battlefield. The bedrock of the game is capturing zones, eliminating powerful bosses, and controlling the flow of the battleground to achieve victory, which are in themselves distinct from its counterparts.

It’s quick, tactical. And most importantly, it’s uniquely Dragon Ball. You can try your favourite anime characters like Goku, Vegeta, Frieza, Piccolo, and more, each with their unique abilities, mid-game transformations, and finishing moves that can alter the course of the game in an instant.

Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra Gameplay Basics

The key gameplay attention loops around:

  • Control the flow of the battlefield by capturing objective zones around the map.
  • Defeating the god of destruction ensures a significant power boost for your team.
  • Outplaying the enemy team in advance, positioning, and teamwork.

Divine Draws

Each match in Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra introduces shifting objectives and Divine Draws, random effects that can temporarily alter the course of the game, such as Super Start obtaining a Super Skill Point at battle start, Super DMG Boost of a specific character skill. These twists and turns make every player’s matches unpredictable and exciting.

EXP Farming

Every player should focus on farming EXP from small NPCs to progress through the game and their character’s skill levels. Leveling up skill points unlocks powerful stats for that skill. In a match, the more advantage in character levels you have, the higher the chance of you winning the fight, even the whole game.

Of course, as it is a 4v4 team game, you have to help your teammates in clearing the NPCs, defeating bosses, and capturing objectives. So, remember to farm EXP from small NPCs, clear objectives with the team, and capture the Dragon Ball to win.

Dragon Ball

What is this Dragon Ball you ask? Well, it is the game’s way of winning the match. It’s a ball that must be collected when destroying the enemy’s main base. You can’t simply win the match by taking over the enemy. You have to collect the Dragon Ball along with your team to win the match.

Duration

The average length of a match is about 7-10 minutes, depending on how fast you can secure every objective in the match and have control over your opponents.

Mastering Roles and Characters

Similar to any MOBA, Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra features distinct hero roles. Each hero is assigned a certain role. Having a fine understanding of these roles is critical for building a balanced team and playing to your strengths.

These roles are- Damage, Tank, and Technical. Each one has its own traits.

  • Damage: This role is best at actively attacking and dealing damage. They are equipped with many powerful offensive skills, allowing them to eliminate enemies and break through the enemy territory by dealing massive damage, for example, Goku
  • Tanks: This role is best at attracting enemy attention and reducing the damage taken by allies. This role is the “punching bag” for the team because of the high base HP and armor that regenerates over time. Use this role to boost your endurance and make it harder for the enemy to beat you, for example, Vegeta
  • Technical: This role is best at providing support and obstructions that give allies an edge in battle. Their high movement speed lets them scout out foes while backing up allies. They contribute to healing, crowd control, and unique tactical advantages, for example, Krillin

For newcomers, starting with a tank or balanced damage hero like Goku is ideal. Tanks offer more room for error, while balanced damage heroes are straightforward and effective.

Transformation

One of the game’s signature features is mid-match hero transformations. The conditions required for this vary from hero to hero. Transforming can also change a character’s abilities. When you build energy during a match:

  • Your hero transforms into a powerful version
  • This transformation grants your hero more buffed-up stats and ultimate finishers.

Aside from some exceptions, Immune to All will be applied to you at the instant the transformation takes place, blowing away nearby enemies and dealing damage. It will also heal your total HP. That’s why, as a player, you must analyse the situation to transform in critical situations. Time it correctly, and the game is in your hands.

Gekishin Rules

  • Gods of Destruction: Gods of Destruction are beings that protect the Dragon Balls. You cannot advance in battle without defeating them. Entering the God of Destruction’s area without allied Zen-Oh within the region, it will start attacking you. If Zen-Oh is in the area, you can safely fight the God of Destruction. The allied God of Destruction can heal you and recover your armor.
  • Gekishin Bursts: Gekishin Bursts are powerful attacks that can deal damage to the Gods of Destruction. While within a God of Destruction area, use a Super Attack to execute a Max Gekishin Burst that deals huge damage to a God of Destruction and grants all allies extra HP. Utilize the skill to gain an extra hand in the match. This mechanic creates intense, high-stakes moments that require tight coordination.

  • Zen-Oh: Zen-Oh is the key to taking down the enemy Gods of Destruction. During battle, the allied Zen-Oh and the enemy Zen-Oh will alternatively advance along each route. When the allied Zen-Oh is in an enemy of the God of Destruction area, the God of Destruction won’t be able to attack. Zen-Oh will only stay for a limited amount of time and will disappear once the countdown reaches zero.
  • Dragon Shells: The final line of defense for the Dragon Balls is Dragon Shells. Once you’ve defeated all of the enemy’s Gods of Destruction, you’ll then be able to attack their dragon shell. Destroy it to obtain the Dragon Ball

Understanding the in-game Map

As opposed to customary MOBAs, where players control three lanes, Gekishin Squadra’s map is a two-lane, short yet wide, circular arena with open movement paths. The Key map features:

  • Dominate Zones: Taking control of these areas gives your team strategic advantages and helps you score points.
  • Power-ups: These are spread out around the arena and give you boosts like healing, speed, and damage.
  • Boss Battles: Beating a boss can change the balance of the game in your favor in a big way.
  • Ambushing: The core game plan of a MOBA is to ambush the opponent. You can communicate with your teammates to set up an ambush in the clouds and defeat the enemy.

The most important thing for a MOBA game that every player forgets to do is to have constant map awareness. Having spatial understanding of the arena makes you capable of controlling the tight space between paths, predicting the opponent’s rotation, and moving in coordinated units. So, be aware of your surroundings.

List of Game Modes

Land Grab

Winning requires earning tons of points. This mode is just another version of Domination from Call of Duty: MobileTo earn points, you will need to acquire and hold allied land. Earn more points by holding allied land for longer periods. If an enemy enters allied land, your team will be prevented from earning points from that land.

Finders Keepers

This mode features a treasure hunt-type vibe. The players will split into search and defense teams to fight for the treasure.

  • Defense Team: The defense team will win if they manage to protect the treasure chests until the time runs out, or if they “Team KO” the search team. KOing a hero on the search team will cause them to respawn close to another hero on their team, making them easier to “Team KO”.
  • Search Team: Search teams should focus on moving around the stage and searching for the treasure chest to claim victory. KOing a hero on the defense team will make them respawn close to a treasure chest.

Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra Beginners Guide: Tips and Tricks

Here are some useful tips and tricks that can be useful as a newbie, I realised while grinding through Dragon Ball: Gekishin Squadra.

  • Get to know your Role: At first, you should stick to one role to better understand the game. Don’t just dive into the different roles.
  • Priority of Objectives: While getting kills is satisfying, you must not forget to focus on objectives. If you ignore the objectives, you will lose the match regardless of your kill count.
  • Focus on Team: “Unity is Strength.” We are all familiar with this proverb. MOBA games have a strict rule on it. A good team fight and synergy with the team can help you win games easily.
  • Communication is Key: Whether you are playing solo or not, use the in-game ping system to call out for boss spawns, taking objectives, initiating team fights, etc.
  • Keep your Hero Level High: Always prioritize your levels, farm the NPCs of the game to gain EXP from them. If you have a level advantage over your opponents, you can deal massive damage to them and to other objectives.

Final Thoughts

With its fast-paced, objective-focused combat and explosive Dragon Ball universe energy, Dragon Ball: Gekishin Squadra breathes and introduces new life into the MOBA genre.
