eFootball 2025 might have not been able to flesh out new gameplay elements apart from the Strike Arena features which are fun but not quite the experience, but they haven’t backed out of releasing some flashy Epic cards. While my previous articles revolved around explaining the important attributes of forwards and midfielders, it is time to look at the defense. Defenders and goalkeepers are the bedrock of a strong squad in eFootball 2025. Choosing the right defenders and goalkeepers involves understanding key attributes and skills tailored to your playstyle. Here’s a guide to help you pick the top attributes and skills for a Defender in eFootball 2025.
Top Attributes and Skills for a Defender in eFootball 2025
I have included Goalkeeper as part of the defense. Including him, we have the Centre-backs and Fullbacks.
Centre-backs (CB)
This has been a curious position where players are confused about what works exactly. While you see some complaining about how short their Cannavaro is, some even have problems with a tall Van Dijk. While attributes do matter, what becomes important is that you play a minimum of two CBs in this game, so having both that complement each other becomes important.
No doubt that the key attributes to focus on for defenders are Tackling, Interception, and Defensive Awareness. The high 90s is the priority for these stats for your defenders. Tackling and Interception are vital for winning duels and breaking up plays, while Defensive Awareness ensures proper positioning.
Given how Physicality has been the meta in the game, you don’t need a glass body on the pitch. Physical Contact should be also considered, it should be above the 80s range, given how there are physically strong forwards in the game and they have better balance compared to your defenders, so pushing you off balance won’t be a tough task for them.

Now, coming to the “complement each other” part. Height is something that has been discussed a lot. Well, it is necessary yes, but not all tall defenders carry good pace. Smarter defenders, say Baresi, Cannavaro, and Marquinhos are examples where they are lethal in ground defending. So pair them with a tall defender, and you are good to go.
Again, this game needs a lot of skill additions to a player, so these skills: Heading, Man Marking, Interception, Acrobatic Clearance, Fighting Spirit, Aerial Superiority, Blocker, and Sliding Tackle are necessary. For Build Up defenders, decent Passing stats + Two Skills should be good enough, while for Destroyers and Extra Frontman players, prefer high aggression to win the ball before the attacking third of the opponent.
Full-backs (LB/RB)
Another position where complementing each other becomes very essential. Two fullbacks shouldn’t have a similar role in my opinion, one should be an offensive heavy while the other does the defensive duties. This goes according to the playstyle, so focus on both aspects or a mix of the two.
Key attributes include Speed, Stamina, and Crossing with good Low and Lofted Pass stats. You might ask why a defensive fullback needs crossing abilities, it might be very essential if in case you want to switch play to the other side of the pitch. Offensive Fullbacks can be good dribblers, so give a few points on the Dribbling aspects of the game.

Defensive attributes like Tackling and Defensive Awareness remain important, as they still need to hold their ground against wingers. For Possession Games, Tight Possession and Low Pass can add fluidity to your attacks, while Counter playstyles require players with high Acceleration and Offensive Awareness to make quick runs.
Full-back Finisher is another playstyle, where you might make him an even more offensive threat, by gifting him some Long Range Shooting or First Time Shot skills with decent finishing, which will come in handy. Still, you don’t need to build your full-backs based on their playstyle, you can build depending on your needs and Team Playstyle.
In a general overview, your fullbacks must have these skills: Pinpoint Crossing, Interception, and Track Back. Track Back, especially for Offensively-oriented fullbacks becomes important for them to run back and support the defense. Fullbacks with dribbling abilities and skills like Cut Behind & Turn and One Touch Pass can improve their involvement in attacks.
Goalkeepers (GK)
Goalkeepers are your last line of defense and their attributes can make or break a match. Focus on Reflexes, Goalkeeping Awareness, and Reach as the core attributes. If your Goalkeeper tends to stay still and not react, then all three are on the lower side. So to fix it improve these aspects.

Sometimes, players also fail to notice the Jump stats of their keeper, hence they do not allocate any points to it. Jumping to catch loose balls, reacting to corners, and reaching the tougher sides of the goal, for which only Reflex stat isn’t enough, needs the ability to jump, so keep an eye on the same.
Key skills for goalkeepers include GK Low Punt and GK Penalty Saver. Acrobatic Clearance, as weird as it might sound, can be really helpful if you are under threat. For faster distributions, Long Throw and One Touch Pass are useful skills.
