eFootball 2026 turns the focus back to defensive strength with the Epic English League Guardians pack, and this one comes with two fresh additions to the Epic roster. Jaap Stam and Thomas Vermaelen both make their Epic debuts, joining legendary goalkeeper Petr Čech.
Defensive players in this pack make it a solid deal. With two debut Epics and a proven goalkeeper in the mix, the pack definitely has its appeal. But does it offer enough value to justify spending your Coins? Let’s break it down.
eFootball 2026 Epic English League Guardians players
Jaap Stam
- Position: CB
- Playing Style: Build Up
- Showtime Skill: Fortress and Aerial Fort
Probably the most interesting card in this pack. Right away, the first thing that stands out is the physical frame. At 191 cm with a massive physical presence, Stam is clearly designed to compete with the elite meta centre-backs like Rio Ferdinand and Raphaël Varane.
But the difference is that Stam looks even more physically dominant. His physical contact and defensive numbers are extremely high, and when you combine that with strong speed and acceleration for a defender of his size, he becomes a nightmare in duels.

The only surprising thing here is the Build Up playstyle. In real life, Stam was more of an aggressive enforcer, so Destroyer might have made more sense. But gameplay-wise, Build Up could actually be beneficial because it keeps him more positionally disciplined, especially in those high-line formations.
Defensively, everything you’d want from a top-tier CB is there: elite awareness, tackling, engagement, aggression, plus excellent aerial ability. Add the Show Time skills Fortress and Aerial Fort, a good combo, but Long Reach Tackle must have been added.
Suggested Skills: One Touch Pass, Acrobatic Clearance
Suggested Booster(s): Shutdown, Duelling, Stealing

Thomas Vermaelen
- Position: CB
- Playing Style: Build Up
- Showtime Skill: Fortress and Visionary Pass
Honestly, this one is a bit disappointing. The stats themselves aren’t terrible, but nothing about the card really screams top-tier centre-back. When you compare Vermaelen with other elite CBs in the game, the overall package just feels underwhelming.
The biggest issue is the player model. At 183 cm with relatively average reach and leg coverage, he doesn’t have that commanding defensive presence that many meta defenders rely on. He also lacks skills like Long Reach Tackle Show Time, which could have helped compensate for the smaller frame.

Defensively, he’s still solid on paper with good engagement, tackling, aggression, and decent aerial ability, but again, nothing stands out enough to separate him from the many CB options already available. Then there’s the Show Time skill Visionary Pass, which feels a bit wasted here.
His passing stats are mostly in the 70s, so you can’t use him in DMF either. What makes this more frustrating is that this is Arsenal’s first legend card released for KONAMI’s 30th Anniversary, and expectations were naturally higher.

Petr Čech
- Position: GK
- Playing Style: Defensive Goalkeeper
- Showtime Skill: GK Directing Defense
Cech is here. Another solid card of his. First of all, the physical profile is exactly what you want from a top goalkeeper. At 196 cm, Čech has the height and frame to cover the goal extremely well. That alone already gives him a big advantage in saving long shots and aerial situations.

Then you look at the goalkeeping stats, and it gets even better compared to his older versions. Reflexes reaching the top tier, combined with excellent reach and goalkeeping awareness, mean he should be incredibly reliable in shot-stopping situations.
What makes the card even stronger is that with proper training, all the key goalkeeping stats can reach 99, which is always a sign of a potentially elite keeper in eFootball. He again falls to the Top Tier rankings, and Schmeichel might have strong competition, whom I consider the best Defensive Goalkeeper.
Suggested Skills: NA

Best pick from the Epic English League Guardians players pack in eFootball 2026
Honestly, I see two SSS-tier picks, but still not tempted. Cech has been stellar, and I think any version of his since eFootball 2025 has been a chartbreaker, so this version is a good upgrade, yet expect the same performances. Stam is a physical star here, but again, there is a good battle for the top spot among CBs.
If you are testing your luck going for this, well, my advice is to not to, I prefer having the combo of Aerial Fort + Long Reach Tackle, so this pack doesn’t get it.
Here’s my final cards tier list and pack rating.
