FPL Fixture Watch Gameweek 24-28 2021/22: Best teams to target and avoid

Plan your moves accordingly!

We’re have passed the halfway line for the 2021/22 Premier League season yet things are still tight in multiple areas of the table. Despite the differences in points, it’s really difficult to predict what will happen in the coming weeks. The recent COVID outbreaks had forced many postponements, now resulting in teams with many games in hand. Whilst Manchester City has been fortunate to have played all 23 games so far, Burnley is far behind with just 18. The other teams also have to vary the number of fixtures to reschedule, a total of 18 matches to be exact. This article, FPL Fixture Watch Gameweek 24-28, 2021/22, covers the higher priority teams to target, and the less preferable as well accounting for the next 5 gameweeks.

It’s gearing up to be a very interesting end to the season in FPL as well. It seems as though the Premier League is slowly working down the list of postponements and rescheduling them into the coming weeks. So far Manchester United vs Brighton has been planned into GW25, featuring a double for both teams then, whilst others are expected to follow. It’s highly advised to start planning for the hectic schedule from now, targeting the teams with the best and the most fixtures to be rescheduled, as well as avoiding those which haven’t much to look forward to.

Note: It’s still a good idea to keep a hold of some assets from Manchester City, despite them having no extra fixtures left to reschedule. They are good enough to haul even in single gameweeks and outscore most double-game-week players. However, for the purpose of this article, they’ve been left out to accommodate other teams.

FPL Fixture Watch Gameweek 24-28 2021/22: Fixtures to Target

1. Manchester United

The Red Devils had a rocky start to life under Ralf Rangnick, who took over as interim manager. Dropped points against Newcastle, Wolves and Villa created uncertainty amongst fans, but the players have managed to gather a bit of form just recently. With 2 wins in the last 2 games against Brentford and West Ham, United looks towards a very appealing fixture schedule. As well as a double game-week in GW25 (Southampton and Brighton), they face Burnley, Leeds, and Watford in the next 4 weeks.

After that, the fixtures take a huge turn though. Also, United has no more previously-postponed games left to play either, as the only one against Brighton has already been rescheduled. As a result, Manchester United assets are much more short-term-focused players.

Picking the right player on this side has been of struggle, but there are a few standout performers. David De Gea (5.2 million) is on fine shot-stopping form, tallying the most saves this season. Whilst clean sheets have been rare, the Spaniard has tallied 5 save points in the last 4 games. Premium picks in Bruno Fernandes (11.7 million) and Cristiano Ronaldo (12.5 million) will likely be quite popular transfers in the coming weeks as well.

2. Aston Villa

Steven Gerrard took over Aston Villa back in GW12 and has helped the club steer away from a potential relegation zone spot. Now 11th, the Villains will be looking to gather some form to climb further up the table in the upcoming weeks. They face Leeds, Newcastle, Watford, Brighton, and Southampton all in the next 5 weeks.

All of these teams rank in the bottom half for xG and all but Brighton rank in the bottom half for xGC as well. In addition, Villa has 2 fixtures to reschedule, after they were postponed earlier this season, against Leeds away and Burnley at home. It’s likely they will receive a double fixture soon, and the prospects look quite appealing too.

Aston Villa FPL Fantasy

All the teams’ Villa is set to play in the near future have had an ineffective attack this season. Emiliano Martinez (5.5 million) has historically been a popular keeper, and could well tally some points in the coming weeks. The new signing in Lucas Digne (5.1 million) offers attacking potential, as well as a hand in clean sheet points, which could prove differential.

Villa has a bolstered attack this season too, with many new signings from this season. Emiliano Buendia (6.2 million) is the most on-form Villa player right now, with 5.7 points in the last 5 games. Alongside him is Jacob Ramsey (4.6 million) at 5.3 points, who has already produced 2 double-digit hauls this season despite being such a cheap player on FPL.

3. Tottenham Spurs

The season prospects have changed for Tottenham ever since Antonio Conte took the wheel. They currently sit 7th, though just 2 points from a Top 4 spot, with 3 games in hand. The upcoming fixtures look decent enough for Spurs to gather the ground and take advantage of their rivals. The North London club faces Southampton, Wolves, Man City, Leeds, and Everton in the next 5 gameweeks.

Whilst the schedule looks reasonable barring the trip to Man City, one of the big incentives behind this move is the three fixtures still to be rescheduled. Spurs are yet to play Burnley, Brighton, and Arsenal, and a double game-week feels like it’s just around the corner.

Harry Kane (12.3 million) has been picking up form recently after a rough start to the season, with 5 goals in the last 6 games. Although a little costly, the Englishman has a deadly eye for goal and could carry that form forward. Heung Min Son (10.6 million) is expected to return back from injury soon, and it could be worth getting ahead of the curve. The safe option, however, is to wait and see how he has eased into the first team again.

Finally, it is recommended to have one of Sergio Reguilon (5.4 million) and Emerson Royal (5 million) in the mix as well. Antonio Conte’s new system introduces heavily attacking wingbacks with a back three. These two players offer both attacking potentials, as well as defensive returns.

4. Newcastle United

It seems as though the big-money takeover for Newcastle is starting to show its potential impacts. The Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia announced that they had taken the majority stake of Newcastle Football Club back in October 2021, a group worth around $500 billion in assets. They’ve gotten to work immediately, starting with a hint of what’s to come this January Transfer Window.

The Magpies have bolstered their squad in an attempt to avoid relegation this season. They face Everton, Aston Villa, West Ham, Brentford, and Brighton in the next 5 gameweeks, and will have a much stronger 11 than before as well. In addition, the side also has two fixtures left to reschedule against Everton and Southampton, hinting at a potential double gameweek soon.

Newcastle United FPL Fantasy

It seems as though Newcastle’s business will go right to the end of the deadline day, but the current squad still has some potential assets. New signing Chris Wood (6.7 million) went straight into the first team, playing the full 90 twice since his move from Burnley.

Although yet to make an impact, the New Zealander is a strong aerial threat, which may be helped by the increasing quality around him. Allan Saint-Maximin (6.7 million) is the club’s highest points-scorer with a total of 84 this season. Although classed as a forward, he seems to be out wide now, but the Frenchman still brings a lot of attacking threats to the table. Kieran Tripper (5 million) is another fresh signing who went straight into the first team and could have an increasing influence over time.

5. Burnley

Despite sitting at rock bottom of the Premier League Table, Burnley is a team some FPL managers are seriously considering accommodating for. They face Man United, Liverpool, Brighton, Palace, and Chelsea in the next 5 weeks, which clearly does not look appealing at all.

However, Burnley is five games behind in the schedule and has the most fixtures to reschedule out of any other team. The Clarets are yet to play Tottenham, Villa, Everton, Leicester, and Watford, and a few double game-weeks look highly likely. Since there are so many fixtures to reschedule in a short time, there is also the possibility of a potential triple gameweek as well.

It could be worth dipping in for just one or two budget Burnley players in preparation. The only issue is, the options are very limited, especially with Burnley having sold their main striker in Chris Wood. Maxwel Cornet (5.9 million) returns from international duty, and the winger has been a breath of fresh air for fans.

He has recorded 2 double-digit hauls and has totaled 50 points this season, the most out of any attacking-minded Burnley player. It’s worth keeping an eye on this team though, as there are a few rumors of some potential singings which could change the face of the team before deadline day.

FPL Fixture Watch Gameweek 24-28 2021/22: Teams to Avoid

1. Chelsea

It is recommended to avoid Chelsea players completely for the time being, and potentially even sell any current-owned ones. The Blues are scheduled a blank gameweek not once, not twice but three times in the next 5 weeks.

Chelsea FPL Fantasy

Their only games in that period come against Crystal Palace (GW26) and Burnley (GW28). They do still have Arsenal and Leicester still left to play, which will be rescheduled after the next 5 weeks. There are much better options available that offer much better potential value.

2. Arsenal

Arsenal is another team scheduled to have blanks in the next five weeks. They face just 3 teams: Wolves, Brentford, and Watford, with blanks in game-weeks 25 and 27. Similar to the Chelsea situation, despite the fixtures looking decent, there are many better options to Arsenal assets available which will play at least 5 out of 5 games, potentially more as well.

Arsenal FPL Fantasy

It’s worth keeping an eye on the Gunners though, as they have four fixtures to reschedule (Wolves, Tottenham, Chelsea, and Liverpool), meaning a double gameweek looks likely after this five-week period.

3. Brentford

The team that was a real threat at the start of the season has dropped off recently. Brentford has managed just 1 win in the last five games, pushing them down to 14th place. They will face Man City, Palace, Arsenal, Newcastle, and Norwich in the next five.

Brentford FPL Fantasy
FPL Fixture Watch Gameweek 24-28 2021/22: Brentford

Despite having some good opportunities in there, there isn’t enough to make Brentford assets worth owning. The Bees are also one of the three teams without a single game-in-hand as well, meaning the prospects of a double gameweek are highly unlikely.
