FPL GW15 2021/22 Differentials: 5 Fantasy players that can help boost your rank

It's easy to pick the big players, but who are some of the lesser know potential stars of the competition!

We’re now slowly delving into the madness of the Winter Premier League. The first-midweek gameweek of the season is upon us, and there’s a lot more where that came from. Lots of games, lots of rotation, lots of drama! The weather here in the UK is not helping the case at all either, with the Spurs vs Burnley game being called off in Gameweek 13 due to heavy snow. It’s highly advised to start building for the hectic schedule now, and as usual, we’ve compiled a list of 5 differential players with under 5% ownership. These assets are risky, but highly rewarding, with each of their returns contributing greatly to your ranks. Here is a list of FPL GW15 Differentials 2021/22 that can bolster your squads ahead of gameweek 15.

FPL GW15 Differentials 2021/22

1. David De Gea (Goalkeeper) – 5.0 million

De Gea has been one of the standout performers in a rather dull United side. However, the new management is expected to be under Ralf Ragnick, and the very promising fixture schedule suggests that improvement is around the corner. Whilst not keeping clean sheets, De Gea has averaged 3.2 saves per 90, helping his team where possible. De Gea has the 2nd most points among all Man Utd players with 48 points, and should have gotten much more but lost out on the crucial clean sheets.

With just 5% ownership, De Gea could be a great way to take advantage of Manchester United’s brilliant fixture schedule. All the way up until GW27, a total of 14 gameweeks, there is just 1 game that ranks higher than 4 on the fixture difficulty rating, and just 4 rated higher than 3.

2. Tariq Lamptey (Defender) – 4.4 million

At the start of the season, Lamptey was regarded as one of the most promising budget defenders available. However, his injury took him out of selection all the way until GW8. In fact, he only managed his first league start recently in GW11. However, since then, Lamptey’s performances have earned him 20 points in just 4 gameweeks, averaging 5 FPL points per game. He has only blanked once in that period, and his underlying numbers are strong evidence that his form could continue. His 8 key passes are joint highest among all Brighton players, and although he has great attacking potential, most of his points have come from clean sheets. Brighton has had a very strong defense this season, ranking 5th for least amount of goals conceded (15), 3rd for most clean sheets (5), and 4th for the least shots on target conceded per game (3.86).

Brighton visits Southampton in GW15, who has had some issues with Defending in recent weeks. They’ve conceded 8 goals in the last 3 games, averaging about 2.7 conceded per game, a league bottom. In addition to that, the Saints also rank in the bottom half for shots, shots on target, and xG across the last 3 weeks.

3. Sergi Canos (Midfielder) – 5.5 million

Canos has arguably been Brentford’s most explosive player this season, with 2 double-digit hauls this season – the highest out of all Brentford players. He’s been outperforming many of his teammates in terms of FPL value, yet is still going under the radar. His 9 shots with 7 from inside the box across the last 5 gameweeks rank as the 2nd highest of all teams and are only bettered by Toney. Whilst Toney is one of the more popular assets among FPL managers, with an ownership of 21.5%, Canos comes in at a value much less with 1.9% ownership. His 5 key passes in that period also rank joint 2nd among teammates, and his 2 assists in the last 5 are also a team-leading number.

Brentford faces Leeds, Watford, Manchester United, and Southampton in the next 4 gameweeks. All 4 of these teams rank in the bottom half for expected goals conceded across the whole season. Although Leeds fans have seen an improved defensive structure in recent weeks, they’ve managed to keep just 3 clean sheets this season whilst, United has kept 2 and Watford is still waiting for their first.

4. Ilkay Gundogan (Midfielder) – 7.3 million

Manchester City has one of the best levels of squad depth in the world, with so many quality options spread across the whole team. One of the key contributors to the club that is going unnoticed this year is German midfielder, Ilkay Gundogan. With 3 goals to his name, Gundogan has averaged 0.35 goals per game, which is joint-top amongst his teammates. His 5 big chances and 9 key passes in the last 5 gameweeks are also both team-leading numbers. Overall, Gundogan has averaged 5.58 points per 90 minutes this season, which is bettered by just Cancelo at the club (6.22).

With all Manchester City assets, the usual issue lies with picking the player that actually starts. Luckily, Gundogan did not feature in the midweek fixture against Aston Villa in GW14, which means chances are high for the veteran midfielder to start in GW15. The bookies predict a 44% chance for Gundogan to grab a return, and he has predicted 4.7 points per game over the next 4 fixtures. Man City has an incredible fixture list coming up, as they face Watford, Wolves, Leeds, Newcastle, and Leicester in the next 5 weeks.

5. Harvey Barnes (Midfielder) – 6.5 million

Once again, it’s the change information for Leicester which is seeing low-ownership players slowly being drawn into the spotlight. Maddison has already taken his chance with his performances, but another player is 2. 6% owned Harvey Barnes. His double-digit hail in GW11 was the first sign of improvement in the new setup for Barnes, and his underlying numbers prove that he’s making an impact. His 1.9 shots on target per 90 is the 2nd highest amongst all FPL players, bettered only by his teammate Maddison. He also ranks 3rd for the big chances created per 90 (1.1) and has an expected goals value of 2.37 (xG) across the last 5 weeks. The fact that he has just 1 goal from such a high xG suggests that he may have been unlucky.

If that’s the case, then the upcoming fixtures are great for Barnes to level the numbers. Leicester will visit Aston Villa in GW15, who has been struggling recently, conceding the 3rd most goals over the last 5 gameweeks. Following that is another appealing opponent in the form of 20th placed Newcastle, who Leicester will face at their own stadium too.
