Genshin Impact Freminet Guide: Abilities, Playstyle, and More

Genshin Impact's new character Freminet and his abilities explained!

Genshin Impact Version 4.0 debuts “Yearning for Unseen Depths” Freminet (cryo/claymore), a Physical/Cryo hybrid 4* DPS from Fontaine. This guide will provide a detailed breakdown of how his abilities work and how to play Freminet in a team in Genshin Impact.

Genshin Impact Freminet Guide: Abilities description

Talent upgrade priority

Elemental Skill > Normal Attack. His Elemental Burst is not used as a DMG source, so leveling it is completely optional.

Normal attack: Flowing Eddies

Normal Attack

Performs up to 4 consecutive strikes.

Charged Attack

Drains Stamina over time to perform continuous spinning attacks against all nearby opponents.
At the end of the sequence, performs a more powerful slash.

Plunging Attack

Plunges from mid-air to strike the ground below, damaging opponents along the path and dealing AoE DMG upon impact.

Elemental skill: Pressurized Floe

Performs an upward thrust that deals with Cryo DMG and causes Freminet to enter Pers Timer for 10s.
While Pers Timer is active, his Elemental Skill will turn into Shattering Pressure.

Shattering Pressure

Executes different sorts of attacks based on the Pressure Level of Pers Timer, and then cancels Pers Timer.

  • Level 0: Unleashes a vertical cut, dealing with Cryo DMG.
  • Levels 1 to 3: Unleashes a vertical cut alongside Pers, dealing with Cryo DMG and Physical DMG. DMG dealt with scales based on Pressure Level.
  • Level 4: Borrows the power of a fully-pressurized Pers to deal with Physical DMG. Meanwhile, Normal Attack: Flowing Eddies will be replaced by Shattering Pressure.

Pers Timer

When Freminet uses Normal Attacks, he will also unleash waves of frost that deal with Cryo DMG and increase Pers’s Pressure Level. The accompanying Cryo DMG dealt this way is considered Elemental Skill DMG.

Arkhe: Pneuma

At certain intervals, after using the upward thrust, a Spiritbreath Thorn in the form of another upward thrust will be created, dealing with Pneuma-aligned Cryo DMG.

Elemental burst: Shadowhunter’s Ambush

Unleashes a wave of untouchable cold, dealing AoE Cryo DMG, resetting the CD of the Elemental Skill “Pressurized Floe,” and causing Freminet to enter the Subnautical Hunter mode for 10s.

While in Subnautical Hunter mode, Freminet’s resistance to interruption will increase, and his Elemental Skill “Pressurized Floe” will obtain the following buffs:

  • CD is decreased by 70%.
  • Normal Attacks will increase the Pers Timer by 1 additional Pressure Level, and the frost released by his Normal Attacks deals 200% of their original DMG.

These effects will be canceled when Freminet leaves the field.

Ascension 1 passive: Saturation Deep Dive

When Freminet unleashes Pressurized Floe: Shattering Pressure if Pers Timer has yet to reach Pressure Level 4, the CD of Pressurized Floe will be decreased by 1s.

Ascension 4 passive: Parallel Condensers

When Freminet triggers Shatter against opponents, the DMG dealt by Pressurized Floe: Shattering Pressure will be increased by 40% for 5s.

Utility passive: Deepwater Navigation

Decreases Aquatic Stamina consumption for your own party members by 35%.
Not stackable with Passive Talents that provide the exact same effects.

Genshin Impact Freminet Guide: Abilities explained

Normal attack: Flowing Eddies

The primary source of his DMG alongside his Elemental Skill. The Normal Attack is used to charge the pressure level of his Elemental Skill.

Elemental skill: Pressurized Floe

The primary source of his DMG alongside his Normal Attack. The initial cast of his skill deals with pure Cryo DMG and brings out the Pers Timer. Doing Normal Attacks deals with Cryo DMG and increases the pressure level of Pers Timer by 1. Pressing the Skill button at any pressure level before level 4 will cancel Pers Timer and deal with Cryo+Physical DMG.

The ratio of Cryo and Physical DMG changes between pressure levels 1 to 3. The proportion of Physical DMG increases and the proportion of Cryo DMG decreases. At level 4, doing a Normal Attack or pressing the Skill button deals with pure Physical DMG and cancels Pers Timer.

A Cryo DPS build Freminet will try to use a level 0 Pers Timer as much as possible, while a Physical DPS build will prefer the level 4 version. More details regarding this are in the playstyle section of this guide. Every 9s after using this Skill, a Pneuma-aligned Cryo attack will be launched. This is helpful in neutralizing Ousia-aligned enemies.

Elemental burst: Shadowhunter’s Ambush

Freminet’s Elemental Burst is the most important part of his kit despite not doing much DMG on its own. The real importance lies in the utility it provides. Freminet enters Subnautical Hunter mode after using his burst. During this state, the cooldown of his skill is reduced to 3s from 10s and doing Normal Attacks increases Pers Timer‘s pressure level by 2 instead of 1.

Both Cryo and Physical builds of Freminet will capitalize on this cooldown reduction and additional pressure level mechanic. The talent description states he gains interruption resistance during burst mode, but it is negligible and completely useless.

Ascension 1 passive: Saturation Deep Dive

This passive benefits Cryo build Freminet by reducing the cooldown of his skill by an additional 1s.

Ascension 4 passive: Parallel Condensers

This passive benefits both Cryo and Physical build Freminet as long as there is a Hydro teammate since he will be constantly Freezing and triggering Shatter on enemies.

Utility passive: Deepwater Navigation

Reduced Aquatic Stamina consumption is a very useful passive for underwater exploration.

Genshin Impact Freminet Guide: Playstyle

Freminet has 2 playstyles to choose from: Cryo DPS or Physical DPS. His kit allows him to be played as both. His rotation and choice of teammates will vary depending on the build. Both builds will require a Cryo teammate to function as a battery since he relies heavily on his burst.

Rotation for Cryo DPS build:

  • Elemental Skill
  • Elemental Burst
  • Elemental Skill 2x
  • Normal Attack until Skill cooldown is over
  • Repeat from step 3

The goal of this build is to use the level 0 version of his skill as many times as possible during his burst mode. Using the skill once brings out Pers Timer at level 0, and using it again unleashes the level 0 version of the skill’s DMG.

Rotation for Physical DPS build:

  • Elemental Skill
  • Elemental Burst
  • Elemental Skill
  • Normal Attack 3x
  • Repeat from step 3

The goal of this build is to use the level 4 version of his skill as many times as possible during his burst mode. Using the skill once brings out Pers Timer at level 0, and doing 2 Normal Attacks increases Pers Timer‘s level to 4. The third Normal Attack unleashes the level 4 version of the skill’s DMG.

Final Thoughts

Freminet’s rotation may feel unnecessarily complicated at first, but there is a rhythm to his rotations which is very satisfying to pull off. He is the first character who benefits from Shatter, a completely useless elemental reaction. The option to play him either as a Cryo DPS or a Physical DPS is pretty liberating.

The fact that he is perfectly viable in both playstyles is pretty great too. Obviously, he will not be as good as a 5* Cryo DPS like Ganyu/Ayaka or a 5* Physical DPS like Eula. His gameplay feels fluid and fast-paced since you will have to weave in Skill and Normal Attacks.
