Introducing the Character Quests in Destiny: Rising
Character Quests in Destiny: Rising are unique side missions tied to individual Lightbearers. Unlike regular main story missions, these quests let you dive deeper into each character’s personal journey. And they explore backstories, rivalries, alliances, and hidden truths while giving you gameplay challenges that often lock you to a specific character.

But beyond the lore, Character Quests are also a good way to earn rewards in Destiny: Rising. And as you progress through different quests, you’ll steadily collect valuable rewards like Lumia Leaves and Bon Voyage Charms, the key currencies for pulling characters from banners.
On top of that, they provide Team XP to push your overall progression forward, Incandescence Tufts for crafting and upgrades, and a steady supply of Glimmer to cover everyday in-game expenses. In short, Character Quests aren’t just narrative filler, cause they boost progression, rewarding both your curiosity and your grind.
How to unlock Character Quests in Destiny: Rising
1. Progress the Main Story
Most Character Quests don’t appear until you’ve cleared specific Campaign missions. For instance, Kabr’s early quests, The Golden Drama and Conspiracy, won’t unlock unless you’ve advanced through Chapter 1-2, while Ikora’s Anonymous Message requires you to complete The Choice of Ikora Rey.
So think of the story campaign as the foundation for unlocking these quests. And if you’re missing a quest in your menu, chances are you haven’t cleared the right main mission yet.
2. Own the Character
After tutorial-style quests, most arcs require you to actually own the character to continue. This is especially true for limited-time characters like Gwynn, who comes with her own gacha banner. So, if you want to dive into individual character quests like Gwynn’s Memento Mori questline, you’ll need to unlock her before the event ends. Otherwise, that storyline and its exclusive rewards will remain locked away till you secure her.
3. Increase the Character Proficiency
This is one of the most important systems tied to Character Quests. Each character has a Proficiency Level that represents how well you’ve bonded with and used them. To raise proficiency, you’ll need to take the character into activities, complete missions, and rack up experience.
You can check a character’s proficiency by tapping the shield icon next to their name in the Characters menu. And unlike Team XP, proficiency doesn’t transfer between Lightbearers, so you’ll need to raise it separately for each one.
4. Check the Heaven Network
Some quests don’t automatically show up in your menu after meeting requirements. Instead, you’ll need to open the Heaven Network inbox, which is the little mail icon under your mini-map. This is where characters sometimes send you messages that trigger their quests.
For instance, parts of Gwynn’s questline only appear after you read Attal’s messages. So if you’re stuck, check your inbox so you don’t miss out on any of the quests.
