Clash Royale, with its December 2025 update, brought one of the biggest additions the game has seen in years: Hero Cards. These new units act like upgraded versions of classic troops, each with a unique ability and powerful gameplay twist.
Since they don’t unlock like normal cards, players might be wondering: How do you actually get Heroes? Here’s a quick guide that breaks down how Heroes work and the exact steps to unlock them.
Steps to Unlock Heroes in Clash Royale
Heroes are enhanced versions of regular troops with new visuals and their own ability button, similar to Champions but more explosive. They take the same deck slot as Champions, so you’ll choose between them when building your deck.
I did explain in short how to unlock the Heroes in my detailed guide, so you can check them out to know the list of hero cards released. Here are all the ways you can unlock them:
From Hero Fragments
- Collect Hero Fragments from the left side of the Pass Royale, where Hero Boxes reward fragments based on the stars you earn.
- Climb to higher arenas to receive stronger boxes that drop more fragments.
- Play seasonal events like the December Crown Chase, which guarantees your first Hero for free.

- Claim fragment rewards and occasional direct Hero unlocks from the Pass Royale.
- Reach 200 Hero Fragments to unlock a new Hero for your collection.
- Earn bonus fragments when you pull duplicate Heroes, which happens only if you have all the heroes at the time of pulling. This will give Hero card copies plus 20 extra fragments.
From Pass Royale
The easiest way to get Hero cards in Clash Royale is via the Pass Royale. The premium side of the Pass gets you the card for a specific Hero in a jiffy.
