Zapdos is a legendary bird Pokémon in Pokémon Go and has complete control over electricity. It can make lightning occur by rubbing its feathers together and is believed to nest in the dark depths of pitch-black thunderclouds. Zapdos is very hard to counter but it’s not impossible. Here’s our Pokémon Go guide on counters for Zapdos to know how to do it.
Zapdos in Pokémon Go
Zapdos is an Electric and Flying-type Pokémon with a max CP of 3987. As it is a dual-type Pokémon, there are quite some interesting counter-attacking strategies for the players. Zapdos has two types of weaknesses which are Rock and Ice. Players can exploit these weaknesses by using meta-relevant and powerful pokemon in battles.
Zapdos Movesets

The best movesets for the Zapdos are Thunder Shock and Drill Peck as it is dual type in nature. The combination of both of these moves has the highest total DPS of 43.9. Trainers can also succeed against Zapdos in battle raids by forming enough alliances and sticking to their strengths.
Best counters against Zapdos in Pokémon Go
- Rhyperior: Smack Down/ Rock Wrecker
- Mamoswine: Powder Snow/Avalanche
- Rampardos: Smack Down / Rock Slide
- Terrakion: Smack Down/ Rock Slide
- Galarian Darmanitan: Ice Fang/ Avalanche
- Tyranitar: Smack Down/ Stone Edge

If the trainers don’t have these counter options they can still field a roster full of the best Rock and Ice types available and also by spending a bit of everything like Stardust, TMs, and Candy. All of this should be enough to prepare the players to fight Zapdos and rise on the victorious side. However, players should be completely ready with their plans, be stocked up, and enter the lobby with a group to fight this legendary Pokémon as no one wants to waste their Battle Raid Passes on failed attempts.
