Pokémon Go: The Complete Shadow Mewtoo Raid Guide and Tips

Guide to Mewtwo Counters for Shadow Raids!

As part of the Rising Shadows Event, on 28th and 29th May 2023, Shadow Mewtwo is coming as the 5-Star Raid Boss in Pokémon Go. The raids will be available from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Shadow Mewtwo will be appearing in Raids for the First Time. Also, this is the first Legendary Pokémon that is coming as a Shadow Raid Boss. Earlier, trainers will be able to get Shadow Mewtwo only by battling with Giovanni. Now, trainers who had the opportunity earlier will be able to Shadow Mewtwo now. Here’s the Pokémon Go Shadow Mewtwo Elite Raid Guide to help players out.

Mewtwo by itself is one of the strongest attackers in Pokémon Go and Shadow Mewtwo is the strongest attacker. So, for PvP and raids, having Shadow Mewtwo will be helpful for the Trainers. Along with this, Shiny Shadow Mewtwo is also making its debut in the game.

Shadow Mewtwo Elite Raid in Pokémon Go

Mewtwo is Genetic Pokémon. It was created by genetic manipulation. However, even though the scientific power of humans created this Pokémon’s body, they failed to endow Mewtwo with a compassionate heart. The best moveset for Mewtwo is Confusion and Psystrike. Shadow Mewtwo with Confusion and Psystike is the strongest attacker in-game. Mewtwo is Psychic-type Pokémon.

    • Charged Moves: Thunderbolt, Focus Blast, Psychic, Ice Beam.
  • Mewtwo caught will have a base IV of 6/6/6.
  • Non-boosted Shadow Mewtwo (Level 20) CP: 2220 CP – 2387 CP.
  • Boosted Mewtwo (Level 25) CP: 2776 CP – 2984 CP.

Rage Mode

Rage Mode is the special transformation of the 3-Star and 5-Star Shadow Raid bosses. When the Health of the Raid Boss decreases to about 50%, the Raid Boss goes to Rage Mode. In this mode, the Raid Boss’s Attack is boosted by 80% and Defense is Boosted by 200%

To counter the Raged Raid Bosses, the Game has introduced Purified Gems. Trainers can craft Purified Gems using 4 Shadow Shards using the new invention of Professor Willow, Shard Refiner.

By using the Purified Gems, the attack and defense boost of the Raid Bosses decreases. Trainers and their Raid Partners can use Multiple Purified Gems at once. If enough Purified Gems are used then, the Raid Boss would return to its original state.

Also, when the Raid Boss HP decreases to about 15%, the boss returns to its original state as well. Trainers can use multiple Purified Gems in a single raid. But there is an internal cooldown between using 2 Gems. Players can store up to 10 Purified Gems in a Bag.

How to earn Shadow Shards in Elite Raid

Trainers can earn Shadow Shards in the following ways:

  • Defeating Team GO Rocket Grunt: 1 Shadow Shard.
  • Defeating Team GO Rocket Leader: 3 Shadow Shards.
  • Defeating Giovanni: 4 Shadow Shards.
  • Defeating a Shadow Raid Boss: 3-8 Shadow Shards.

How to approach the raids in Pokémon Go

As Shadow Mewtwo is the strongest attacker and the raged form, Trainers wouldn’t be able to face this challenge without proper planning. They have to prepare proper counters. Also, have to do the raids with large groups to be able to defeat the raid boss. Players might be able to do the raid, but only if both of them have Level 50 best counter of Mewtwo.

Also, players have to keep enough Purification Gems for the Shadow Raids. Because once the Mewtwo becomes raged, without Purification Gems it would be almost impossible. Make a proper plan with your local Pokémon Go community to complete as many Shadow Mewtwo Raids and try to get the Shiny one.

Importance of Shadow Mewtwo

Though in the future the Mega Evolution of Mewtwo will be available, Trainers’ priority should be getting some good IV Shadow Mewtwos. The Mega Mewtwos might be better but only for a short period, then, they would return to a normal state after some time. The Shadow Mewtwo will be always available for use without further spending of resources. For a more efficient approach, Shadow Mewtwo is better.

How to prepare for the Mewtwo Shadow Raid in Pokémon Go

In case, trainers don’t already have the best or good counters for Shadow Mewtwo, they can do the following:

  • Power up your strongest Dark-type Pokémon (even though they wouldn’t be the best counter, they will be your best Pokémon in this scenario).
  • Try to get Good IV Sneasel and Houndour from fighting Team Go Rocket Grunts.
  • Try to get Shadow Sneasel from the 3-Star Shadow Raids.

Level Up these Pokémon. Even with these Pokémon trainers will be able to provide great contributions to the raids.

Final Thoughts

Shadow Mewtwo is an important Pokémon in-game. Though defeating it will be tough, all trainers should gear up and try to get Shadow Mewtwo. With proper preparation and a good group of Trainers, everyone will be able to get a Shadow Mewtwo.

Also, players will be able to get boosted by Shadow Mewtwo in Windy Weather conditions, but simultaneously, Shadow Mewtwo’s attack will be dealing more damage( Psychic Attacks). Finally, if you are lucky, you might encounter Shiny Shadow Mewtwo.
