Playing Co-Op with Friends in Where Winds Meet

Co-op in Where Winds Meet is best described as optional. And the game gives you two primary ways to experience multiplayer: Online Mode and Co-Op within Solo Mode. Each serves a different purpose, and knowing when to use which one will dramatically improve your experience.

At the start, you choose between Lone Wanderer (Single-Player) and Shared Journey (Multiplayer). This choice isn’t permanent. And you can freely switch between solo and multiplayer modes at almost any time. This allows you to tackle story content alone and jump into co-op when things get challenging, or simply more fun with friends.

Most co-op activities support up to five players total, including the host. And this works perfectly for exploration, side quests, dungeon runs, and boss fights. For Sentinel Beings, the game allows large-scale groups of up to 10 players. Hence, turning these fights into chaotic, cinematic battles. One important thing to note is that there is no level scaling in co-op. And the difficulty is based on the host’s level.

How to add Friends in Where Winds Meet

Before you can fight side by side, you’ll need to add friends to your list. Thankfully, the process is straightforward once multiplayer is unlocked.

You can also generate co-op codes for cross-platform invites, making it easy to play with friends regardless of device.

Co-Op Matchmaking and Lobbies

Inside the co-op menu, you’ll find:

  • Active co-op rooms you can join
  • Options to create your own room
  • Lobby settings for managing party members

A session supports up to five players, and you’ll travel together across the map, sharing combat encounters and objectives. And as you play together, you’ll earn Adventure Slips, which can be exchanged for useful items, making co-op not just fun, but rewarding.

What You Can and Can’t Do in Co-Op

In Where Winds Meet, co-op play is separate from the main story. But most of the core gameplay systems are fully playable with friends. This includes some side quests, boss refights, dungeons and trials, open-world exploration, limited-time events, mini-games, and large-scale Sentinel Being battles.

This makes co-op ideal for grinding gear, overcoming tough encounters, or simply roaming the Jianghu together. Beyond standard co-op activities, Where Winds Meet has an assist feature. When someone is stuck, they can place an assistance signpost to request help. And other players can respond to these requests and join in.

Co-op also introduces some pretty interesting features that don’t exist in solo play. Certain injuries and illnesses, such as bone fractures, cannot be fully treated by NPC healers and instead require assistance from another player. This makes multiplayer more than just a convenience.
