Touch controls are growing more popular among Xbox Cloud Gaming users

Console and PC games have been far-reaching for Mobile players. Mobile phones in general aren’t powerful enough to run such games. But thanks to cloud gaming services mobile players have been able to enjoy Console and PC games on their phones. These cloud gaming services provide a way to play games with high graphics by rendering the game via the cloud and streaming the game’s video feed to the player’s device. One of the popular cloud gaming services is Microsoft’s Xbox cloud gaming. Microsoft in a recent blog post revealed that 20% of the Xbox cloud gaming players exclusively use only touch controls after the introduction in August this year. It is also to be noted that around 2x increase in touch usage for titles available in Xbox cloud gaming across different genres which has touch controls enabled.

Microsoft also stated that they have seen more engagement with touch controls for many games on an individual basis. Here are some of the popular titles where 30% of players exclusively use touch controls.

Microsoft has also made other game developers easily implement touch controls for their games. Microsoft uses a three-step process to easily welcome developers to use touch controls for their games without comprising the core gaming mechanics.

  1. No Code changes: Provides Touch Adaption kit for developers available on their Github.
  2. Small cloud aware change: Allows developers to customize the touch buttons as per their requirements.
  3. Cloud aware title: This will help developers by providing more tools to fully bring the touch experience.

With the adaptation of Touch Controls in the Xbox Cloud Gaming service, it can be expected that the number will only rise from 20%.
