In shocking developments that are coming in from Pakistan, a young boy reportedly shot his family, which included his mother and two siblings, dead after his mother scolded him for playing PUBG Mobile too much and not focusing on his studies, reports the Pakistani news agency SAMAA.
Sources reveal that the boy was addicted to PUBG Mobile
The murder is said to have taken place in Pakistan’s Punjab province on January 28. The boy was reportedly staying with his mother, Nahid Mubarak, and three siblings, including a 22-month-old child. The day the murder occurred, the boy had been reprimanded by his mother for playing too much PUBG and “not concentrating on his studies”. The incident left the boy angry. He later proceeded to take his mother’s pistol from the cupboard and shot all 4 members dead in their sleep.

The boy raised the alarm himself the next day after which neighbors called the police. The boy initially claimed he had no idea how his family was murdered but police said that his body language raised suspicion. After being observed for a few days, the boy was arrested and he finally confessed to the crime. He said he had shot his family “under the influence of PUBG”. The boy is currently now in police custody.
This is not the first time PUBG has been in the news for a gruesome event such as this. Another incident last year saw a Pakistani man try to “recreate” a scene from PUBG and ended up shooting two of his family members dead while injuring three others. The man had gone to the extent of wearing a helmet and a jacket similar to the one in the game to “complete the effect”. The game has also garnered criticism for its addictive nature and is said to have wreaked havoc on students’ concentration and studies. Incidents like these were the reason why PUBG Mobile was banned in Pakistan in 2020.
