- You can pet your adorable cat Ren, listen to his life philosophy, or even create music.
Peter Cardwell-Gardner has announced the launch of his minimalist music-based puzzle title, Cadence, now available on iOS and Steam. The solo developer took 13 years to craft this beautiful game. There is no details revealed yet regarding an Android release.
Solve logic puzzles and spend time with your feline friend
So, what basically Cadence does is it breaks the mould by blending puzzle solving with music creation, giving you more than one way to enjoy the experience. Here, you basically have to solve circuits to create music, and don’t confuse it for a rhythm title, as it’s more of a zen music sandbox.
As you patiently figure out each clever puzzle, your solutions slowly reveals gentle melodies that wakes up your philosophical feline friend, Ren. You know I love both cats and music, so this combo already won my interest. That said, the puzzles does get more challenging as you progress, so you won’t be bored.
You can compose full tracks using the level editor and more
And that’s just not it, as there’s also a level editor packed with programmable synths, drum machines, and preset libraries. You can be a full fledged composer arranging up to four tracks using the same logical tiles through graph-based sequencing. I never thought I’ll be able to do this in a mobile title.
Overall, the game looks very promising, especially given the solo effort of the dev for over a decade. Like, I can clearly see the effort in its adorable minimalist visuals, Puzzle and Sandbox modes, and more. Plus, with its Turing complete logic system, you can even create simple patterns or go all in with elaborate musical contraptions.
Cadence is now available on iO and Steam. So, you can ahead and download the game via the App Store and experience it for yourself before committing for a full purchase. There is no confirmation yet regarding Android release, so stay tuned!
