Clash of Clans has arrived with a new update featuring Town Hall 18, which is expected to launch later this year. With a brand-new gameplay mechanic on the horizon, along with new defenses, a spell, and balance changes, event reworks, and new cosmetic plans, this CoC TH18 update has been one of the biggest updates of the year.
Clash of Clans Town Hall 18 update details: Every feature and addition explained

Town Hall 18 overview
Town Hall 18 is finally here, and Supercell is kicking things off with a major shake-up. The TH18 design comes with a glowing blue interior, storage boosts, and higher hitpoints, but the change is that it doesn’t have a built-in weapon anymore.

- Upgrade time: 14 days
- Upgrade cost: 25M Gold
- Hitpoints: 10,800
- Storage: 5M Gold / 5M Elixir / 50k Dark Elixir
Since there’s no Town Hall weapon, that defensive role now shifts to the brand-new Guardian System, which I’m going to explain next.
Guardian System
One of the biggest new additions is the Guardian System for TH18. The new Town Hall won’t defend itself alone. It will now be protected by two selectable defensive guardians. Instead of the TH blasting attackers, you now assign one of two Guardians to defend the area around it. The Town Hall is no longer considered a defense structure on its own.

You can switch between the two Guardians: Smasher or Longshot, directly from the Town Hall. Each Guardian has its own upgrade path inside a special menu, and upgrading them requires a builder. The good part is that even if your Guardian is upgrading, it will still defend in Wars and Ranked, similar to Heroes.
Both Guardians have splash damage, attack ground and air, and have special defeat effects that add extra depth to defensive planning. Your Guardian’s patrol path is also visible when tapping on the Town Hall, helping players design bases around their chosen style.
Smasher
Smasher is the close-range bruiser. It swings hard, hits multiple targets, and becomes even more aggressive if the Town Hall gets destroyed. When Smasher goes down, it drops Rage on the ground to support defending troops.
- Role: Melee Guardian
- Targets: Ground & Air
- Effect on defeat: Drops Rage
- Special: Becomes enraged when TH is destroyed
Longshot
Longshot acts as the ranged alternative, dealing splash damage from a distance. When defeated, it explodes, damaging nearby troops. This Guardian is designed to punish clustered attacks and long-range approaches.
- Role: Ranged Guardian
- Targets: Ground & Air
- Effect on defeat: Explodes
- Special: High splash range
New Defense: Revenge Tower
Town Hall 18 gets its own special defense with the arrival of the Revenge Tower. Unlike most defenses, this building powers up based on how much destruction the attacker has already caused. It starts completely inactive and becomes more dangerous the longer the attack goes on.

Here’s a simple table to explain its upgrading abilities:
| No of Buildings Destroyed | Activation |
|---|---|
| No buildings destroyed | Inactive |
| 5 | Becomes a slow, high-damage single-target defense |
| 20 | Attack speed increases, shots bounce to a second target |
| 40 | Attacks even faster, shots bounce to a third target |
The final level is really strong; it can easily take out a cluster of hog riders within a few seconds. For defenders, the idea is to protect Revenge Tower in their base layout, while for attackers, they need to take down the defense before Level 2.
New Defense: Super Wizard Tower
It is now officially confirmed that the classic Wizard Tower will merge into the Super Wizard Tower at TH18. Two Wizard Towers form into one, and the new merged structure will become a permanent part of the Town Hall 18 progression.

It attacks a single target and chains to up to 15 additional units, making it a powerful anti-swarm option. With a longer range than the normal Wizard Tower and two upgrade levels, this defense becomes a key addition to TH18’s lineup.
- Attack range: 8 tiles
- Max chain targets: 15
New Spell: Totem Spell
The Totem Spell is the latest addition to the Spell Factory. When dropped, it summons a tall Totem that acts as a tank, drawing fire from both ground and air defenses. The initial impact also deals small damage and applies a short stun to defenses and defensive troops, forcing them to retarget onto the Totem.

- Housing space: 1
- Stun radius: 6 tiles
- Stun duration: 0.2 seconds
Simply put, the spell acts as a troop and stays the same until destroyed. Also, both ground and air defenses can target it. Deploying the spell, it won’t trigger Rage or Poison Spell Towers of the base you are attacking.
New Crafted Defenses
On top of that, crafted defenses make a comeback right after the update. The TH17 season is being removed, and a new four-month season starts with three new craftables: Hero Bell, Bomb Hive, and Light Beam.
Hero Bell
The Hero Bell boosts the HP and DPS of your defending Heroes, but the building itself cannot attack. Once the bell is destroyed, all boosts instantly disappear. It comes with three upgrade modules: Building HP, Hero HP, and Hero DPS.

Light Beam
The Light Beam deals single-target damage to both ground and air troops. Its shots get weaker the farther they travel, so it hits hardest when enemies are close and softer at long distances. Its upgrade modules include Building HP, Damage per hit, and Attack cooldown.
Bomb Hive
The Bomb Hive fires splash-damage bombs in set directions, hitting both ground and air units. These bombs keep traveling until they collide with a target or reach their maximum range. It has three upgrade modules: Building HP, Damage per hit, and Range.
Each crafted building works differently depending on the modules you upgrade. You will need to rebuild the Crafting Station when they reach TH18, but it’s free and instant.
New Shop and Currency: Fancy Shop and Sparky Stones
This crafted season also ties into the new fancy shop, which uses Sparky Stones, a currency earned from upgrading crafted defenses and supercharges. These stones let you unlock cosmetics like the Meteorite Builder skin or apply permanent supercharge effects to decorations.
How to earn Sparky Stones
- Supercharge upgrades → 10 stones each
- Crafted Defense module upgrades → 8 stones each
- All past upgrades count retroactively
Fancy Shop rewards at launch
- Meteor Builder Skin (one-time purchase)
- Exclusive Home Village decoration (one-time purchase)
- Charge Effect for any decoration (multiple times)
Old crafted upgrades from previous seasons retroactively give stones too, so long-time players will start ahead.
Ranked Improvements
Ranked mode also got a few important changes. Temporary troops and temporary spells can no longer be used in Ranked Battles, Clan Wars, or Clan War Leagues, which means competitive attacks now rely only on permanent units.
Matchmaking inside each weekly tournament bracket is also becoming less predictable, reducing the chances of facing the same styles or bases repeatedly. The inactivity rules have been adjusted to make things easier to understand. Previously, you would only get demoted if you stayed inactive for two full weeks in a row.
After the update, you still keep your league and bonuses for the first week of inactivity, but you must sign up before the next Tournament starts on Tuesday morning (5 AM UTC) to avoid losing your rank.
If you fail to sign up by Friday at 5 AM UTC, the game will now show a warning on the Battle screen, reminding you that you’re at risk of demotion if you don’t join the next Tournament in time.
Other Updates
Clan War League Shop Changes
The Resource Potion in the Clan War League Shop now costs 10 medals instead of 5. The idea behind this change is to make the shop feel more meaningful over time and encourage players to spend medals regularly to support their village growth, instead of hoarding them indefinitely.
Quality of Life and Balance Changes
A number of small but helpful improvements are being added across the game. Skeleton Traps now show a proper info screen for the Skeletons they spawn. Builder Base Heroes will show their own background during skin selection.
Revenge Battles get their own dedicated end screen, and the Battle Log is now neatly organized, starting with Troops on the left and ending with Clan Castle Spells on the right. These changes make navigating menus and reviewing battles feel cleaner and easier.
The defensive Minion Prince has been rebalanced to keep him in check as well as bugs have been addressed to make gameplay smoother.
