The 1987 classic shooter Contra returns onto mobile platforms! Contra: Returns is a free-to-play mobile game developed by Tencent Games in collaboration with Konami, which will get a global release soon. It is one of the most popular classic 30-year-old games which is well known for its nefarious difficulty.
The game originally released in China on June 6th, 2017, and then later in Taiwan in 2018. Players overseas have eagerly been awaiting this title’s release in NA and popular developers TiMi Studio Group has announced that they are publishing this game.
Fans of the original Contra have little to worry about as in terms of gameplay the game plays identically to what you remember. The only difference is the addition of new playable characters and many new weapons for the player to use. The trailer that came with the announcement showed 6 playable characters with many more coming.
Developed by KONAMI and Tencent’s TiMi Studios, Contra Returns, is the latest sequel to one of the oldest and longest-running side-scrolling shooter games. This game will be available for both, Android and iOS platforms globally. Players will be able to play through over 200 different story stages in the solo campaign. Players try their hands at real-time PVP against other players in the ranked 1v1 or 3v3 modes.
There is a way to roll for gear much like the other loot box style games players could have come across, with the addition of gear that gives higher damage and survivability and PVP, which does worry me a bit. Characters have armour and weapon slots and of course, they can level up and so can the gear, so you can see how the progression would look.
When will Contra: Returns release globally
The game did do fairly well in China and Taiwan and thanks to that supportive audience Contra Returns has been successful enough to warrant a global release. Contra Returns pre-registration is already live for both Android and iOS and the game will be released globally on July 26th, 2021.
TiMi studios are doing a good job for the community out there who were longing for an international release of this game. As of now, players and fans of the game can just hope that they don’t botch the launch as many other companies have done previously.
