Gamerji, the esports tournament platform raised $3 million in its pre-series A round

Gamerji serves tournaments for more than 22 core esports titles!

The top esports tournament platform in India, Gamerji, has raised $3 million in a Pre-Series A round from GVFL (previously Gujarat Venture Finance Limited) and Unicorn India Ventures, which has supported Gamerji since its inception.

The money raised will go toward expanding the platform in freshly opened foreign markets in the MENA region. The funds will also go towards launching plans for Southeast Asia, beginning in Indonesia and the Philippines. To improve the online gaming experience, the company also intends to use these funds to develop tech solutions and EaaS (E-sports as a Service).

Gamerji aims to bridge the gap between amateurs and professional gamers

Through its competitions, Ahmedabad-based Gamerji hopes to close the gap between amateur and professional gamers. Gamerji was founded in 2019 by gaming expert and serial entrepreneur Soham Thacker. Players may compete, host matches, connect, and be recognized for their gaming prowess thanks to the company. Till date, Gamerji has raised $5 million in funding including this round.

India’s gaming landscape has seen a significant upheaval. The gaming sector is receiving increased attention from stakeholders and potential players. The sector has experienced rapid expansion as a result. Gamerji started ahead of us, and we’ve already made an appearance in the Middle East. We are also expanding into more regions, and a fresh influx of finance will enable us to achieve our expansion objectives sooner than expected.

According to Soham Thacker, CEO and Founder of Gamerji

“Gamerji is India’s top platform for esports gaming events. We are thrilled to support such a dynamic organization,” said Kamal Bansal, Managing Director of GVFL. He added, “With mobile gaming dominating the market and making up more than 90% of it, gaming is one of the fastest-growing sectors in India. We hope to work together to increase their global impact and online visibility.”

According to Bhaskar Majumdar, Managing Partner at Unicorn India Ventures, “Gamerji’s vision to provide a credible platform for amateur gamers as they strive to become professionals is a significant untapped market. Soham has been working toward this goal since the beginning. And we have seen its benefits as a result of Unicorn India investing in the company through three rounds of funding. And we continue to support Gamerji’s growth story.”

Gamerji is looking to build a large user base in India and support tournaments in other regions

Gamerji has increased from 1 million to 4 million members in the past year. It now hosts competitions for more than 22 of the most popular esports games. Additionally, it has opened up operations abroad in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, where it has more than 100,000 players. The goal of Gamerji’s approach is to amass a sizable user base in India. It is also looking to support international competitions in other areas. The site currently hosts over 400 tournaments every day for 22 different games, including BGMI, Free Fire Max, Call of Duty Mobile, Clash Royale, CS: GO, and others.

The online gaming market is predicted to reach INR 153 billion by 2024 at a CAGR of 15% to become the fourth largest segment of the Indian M&E sector, driven by innovations across NFTs, the metaverse, and esports, according to the FICCI-EY media and entertainment report 2022“Tuning into Consumer.”
