With the playoffs for Season 7 of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang’s Professional League (MPL) Indonesia underway, the top 6 teams with the best scores from the regular season will compete for the cup and title of the MPL-ID Season 7. Match 1 of the playoffs had started with an intense match between the champions of last season’s MPL Indonesia RRQ Hoshi and Genflix Aerowolf. Match 2 saw a fierce face-off between the Season 6 Runner-up Alter Ego and Bigetron Alpha. To everyone’s surprise, the 2 powerhouses of RRQ Hoshi and Alter Ego have been knocked out of the competition right away, after the first round of playoffs. According to Escharts, these two teams are the two most popular Mobile Legends Esports teams of 2020.
The fall of the Kings
Known best as the “King of Kings”, RRQ Hoshi have suffered a devastating loss to Genflix Aerowolf in Round 1 of the MPL-ID Season 7 Playoffs. With no Lower Bracket to go to, the 2-1 win in favour of Genflix Aerowolf brought the Kings to their knees. Despite playing RRQ Lemon for the first time since the S6 Playoffs, this ace up their sleeve was no match for Genflix’s ruthless offence and snowballing. This has ended up in them being overwhelmed, thus ending the Kings’ long-lasting reign.
Programmed to Win
Bigetron Alpha’s well-known catchphrase “Programmed to Win” certainly represented them well today, leading a 2-1 win over last season’s runner-up Alter Ego. Jungler BTR “Branz” lead the way to victory with Karrie and his main, Yi Sun-Shin to push back the 1-0 Alter Ego lead to a comeback with a huge W. While Alter Ego is known for an aggressive early-game playstyle that lets them snowball into the late game dominantly, Bigetron strived under the pressure and came up on top in the end.
Playoffs Summary

With Day 1 almost over, Day 2 of the MPL-ID S7 playoffs will definitely be interesting to watch. Bigetron will start their day facing off against ONIC Esports, which will be a battle between the veteran Jungler Branz and rising star Jungler Sanz. The winner of the EVOS-Genflix battle will take the first spot in the upper bracket, joined by the winner of the BTR-ONIC matchup. The Lower Bracket will consist of the losers of these two match-ups. Finally, one team will emerge from each bracket and compete in the Finals on Day 3 of the Playoffs in an intense Best-of-7 match.
Playoff Outlook
With both RRQ and AE out of the picture, the remaining 4 teams will be in the run for the title. This event will be one to look for in ages. EVOS is a clear fan-favourite to win, with newbie Jungler Ferxiic and a veteran team made up of REKT, Luminaire, Clover, and Antimage. ONIC will also be one team to watch, as they have surprised everyone with outstanding victories over both RRQ and AE in this past regular season. BTR and Genflix are also two dark horse teams who should not be underestimated, as they have proven themselves worthy by taking down the two top seeds.
