Pokémon fans, it’s time to rejoice at a new title. Announced for smaller screens is Pokémon Champions, a brand new “core Pokémon” battler. The game is currently in development and will be released on Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch.
Pokémon Champions will feature classic Pokémon types, Abilities, and moves
As I added earlier, Pokémon Champions is a battle-focused game announced during the Pokémon Presents event on February 27th, 2025. It is from the house of Game Freak, creators of multiple Poke-RPGs, with The Pokémon Company handling development.
From what is shared, the game will include familiar mechanics like Pokémon types, Abilities, and moves, so battles will feel just like they do in the mainline games. I could see visuals of gym battles from the visuals, so strategy and action are to be the core elements.
What’s exciting is that there are cross-platform battles. Another big feature is that Pokémon Champions will support Pokémon HOME, meaning you can bring in your Pokémon from other games to battle in this new experience.
There’s also this mention of “designed to be enjoyable for more players than before”, although I’m not exactly sure what it might be. All in all, I can think of Pokémon Champions as the perfect game for players who love battling but want a more focused experience.
