- Ubisoft shuts down its Halifax mobile games studio shortly after workers unionize.
- Up to 71 developers affected from job cuts as union vows legal action.
- Ubisoft claims this has nothing to do with the union and is part of "strategic reshaping".
If you have been waiting for Rainbow Six Mobile or are still hoping to hear something about Assassin’s Creed Jade, the latest news around Ubisoft might worry you. Ubisoft has officially shut down its Halifax studio, resulting in 71 employees losing their jobs.
The move comes after Ubisoft revealed steps to reshape the group
This move comes right after Ubisoft announced major strategic changes this month. In simple terms, Ubisoft is trying to cut costs, restructure its business, and focus more on making better games while spending less money.

What makes the situation more sensitive is the timing. Just days earlier, on December 18, 2025, 61 of those employees had successfully joined the union under the Game and Media Workers Guild of Canada.
In Canada, it is illegal for a company to close operations because workers choose to unionize. While Ubisoft claims the closure decision was made earlier and has nothing to do with the union, the union remains unconvinced and has announced that it’ll “pursue every legal recourse”.
What does this mean for the two upcoming mobile titles
So the reason for concerns surrounding the mobile releases is that the Rainbow Six Mobile and Assassin’s Creed mobile title developments were handled by this mobile studio. This likely includes both Assassin’s Creed Rebellion and Assassin’s Creed Jade.
The timing is again awkward, especially since the tactical shooter is finally set to launch globally on February 23, 2026. Mind you, this is after a major delay, almost four years after its first announcement in April 2022. However, with the launch date being locked, I don’t see them backing off on this.

However, the same can’t be said for Assassin’s Creed Jade. The last major update for the open-world mobile Assassin’s Creed game came back in March 2024, and it was about the game being delayed, citing “shift of focus” reasons. Since then, Ubisoft has stayed mostly silent.
Ubisoft hasn’t said either game is delayed or cancelled, but studio closures usually affect timelines or long-term support. Rainbow Six Mobile seems safe for now, but with Ubisoft Halifax no longer in the picture and no fresh gameplay reveals or launch window, Jade’s status feels increasingly uncertain.
