The Gallery: Aviary Studios announced the release of its live-action video game on Android and iOS

A part hostage thriller, and part social drama!

Aviary Studios is excited to announce that The Gallery, a live-action video game, will release in April 2022 for PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4, as well as iOS and Android devices. The Gallery will also be released in UK theatres, where the audience will be able to play the game by majority vote as part of an immersive and participatory interactive experience.

The Gallery is a gripping blend of hostage thriller and social drama with a sprinkling of global film festival movie style, written and directed by Paul Raschid, one of the most prolific live-action video game / interactive film creatives.

The game, which was shot over the course of six weeks in February and March of 2021, immerses audiences in an interactive experience set in two time periods: 1981 and 2021, both of which have significant political, social, and cultural significance in UK history, which is cleverly reflected in the nuanced story. As they explore a plot filled with mystery and intrigue, players will encounter over 150 decision points.

Meet the cast of The Gallery

Cast of the Gallery
Anna Popplewell and George Blagden

An exciting cast has been assembled for The Gallery including George Blagden (Versailles and Vikings); Anna Popplewell (The Chronicles of Narnia); Kara Tointon (Mr. Selfridge and Eastenders); Rebecca Root (The Queen’s Gambit); Richard Fleeshman (The Sandman and Coronation Street), Shannon Tarbet (Killing Eve and Love Sarah) and Fehinti Balogun (I May Destroy You).

The Gallery release will be the rennaisance of live action video game genre

The live-action video (FMV) game genre first appeared in the mid-1980s and was hailed as the future of video games until it was proclaimed dead in the mid-1990s. With films like Late Shift and Her Story, the current rebirth of this niche genre – a mix of cinema and video games – began around 2015 and was accelerated in 2019 with Netflix’s Bandersnatch.

With filmmakers like Paul Raschid (who won a BAFTA Scotland for his linear cinema work) trying to expand the live-action video game to a larger film and TV audience and provide more different genres than the conventional horror experience, this niche genre might see a comeback. The Gallery will be released in April 2022 for PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4, as well as iOS and Android devices and in a UK interactive theatre.
