Netmarble has released a new developer commentary video for its upcoming open-world action RPG, The Seven Deadly Sins: Origin. It gives the community a closer look at the game’s development, and more, with answers to community-submitted questions via their official Discord server.
Aiming for quality with a 2025 release
Before answering community questions, the Executive Producer, Koo Do Hyung, said the goal is to deliver a rich adventure that stays true to the original stories while offering something fresh. He was later joined by the team leads from different departments to respond to fan-submitted questions via Discord.

When asked about the game’s release, Mr. Koo revealed, “ We’re currently aiming to launch the game within 2025.” They’re focused on improving the game’s systems and content to ensure you have a polished experience. While there’s no confirmed launch date yet, he said, “We expect to officially announce key launch details in Q3 2025.”
Simultaneous launch on mobile, PC, and PlayStation 5
Regarding platform support, the team aims to launch the game on PlayStation 5, mobile, and PC simultaneously. Mr. Koo noted that “it has not been easy balancing console compatibility and mobile optimization,” but the team is doing their best to provide a seamless experience. Moreover, the game will also support cross-play, allowing you to enjoy the same content across devices.
PlayStation 5 exclusive; other consoles may follow in the future

As for Xbox or Nintendo Switch, he revealed that the game is “being developed as a timed console exclusive for PlayStation 5.” He explained that each platform requires separate technical preparation, making it difficult to support them all from the start. However, if the game receives strong support, they hope to bring it to more platforms later.
An expansive world filled with stories and secrets
Ye Soon Man, the Lead of Quest, Level, and Scenario, offered insight into how much content you can expect. He shared that the game’s main story “takes place across multiple regions, each with its unique setting and atmosphere.“

According to him, the game will span about 30 square kilometers, “filled with a variety of side quests, powerful boss monsters, and hidden exploration elements.” Plus, dungeons will reflect the unique atmosphere and theme of each region.
“We’re working to add fun and variety to the gameplay through different types of mini-games,” Mr. Ye added. The game will also support solo exploration as well as multiplayer content that requires cooperation. The team is making sure the game “supports a wide range of playstyles.”
Event content with seasonal flair and fresh gameplay
In addition to the main story, the team is preparing seasonal and event-based content. Mr. Ye shared that the team is working on “a casual race mode you can play with friends, or a TRS-style battle mode.” Plus, these aren’t just optional extras, as they’re designed to feel like a natural part of the game.
Seasonal content will also be part of the roadmap, with “events that reflect the seasons and timing within the game,” he shared. Basically, each season will bring new themes, rules, and rewards that align with the time in-game.
The game will offer more heroes first, instead of multiple versions
Next, Executive Art Director Park Dong Hoon addressed a question about having different versions of the same hero. Since the game is “based on a multiverse setting, characters from different points in the original story can appear,” he explained.

In the original series, characters grow and change over time, and this game reflects that idea. However, Mr. Park explained that for the game’s initial reveal, the team’s “focus is on showcasing a wide range of different heroes rather than multiple versions of a single one.“
The iconic characters will support rather than overshadow
He further revealed that the game’s story takes place “between The Seven Deadly Sins series and the Four Knights of the Apocalypse“, following 13-year-old Tristan on a new journey. He will encounter iconic heroes from the series and “grow through those experiences.“

Mr. Park assured fans that while original characters will appear, “they are designed to support Tristan’s journey through individual episodes or roles as companions.” The team also plans to introduce new heroes with unique qualities not seen in the original series, while showing respect to the iconic cast.
Combat depth, character variety, and thoughtful PvP integration
Responding to questions on the combat system, Park Dong June, Lead of Content System, shared that battles are designed around teams of four heroes. You’ll also be able to “collect and use many different characters beyond just the main protagonist.“
Moreover, the game blends multiple genres thanks to its open-world structure, allowing the team to “provide a more open and flexible gameplay experience.” And while the focus is on cooperative PvE content, the dev team is “prototyping and testing several forms of PvP content,” he shared.

They’re considering standard 1v1 battles, while also exploring various other PvP formats. Mr. Park said that the team is also being cautious about PvP implementations, stating, “Some players may find the competitive pressure or perceived obligation to participate overwhelming.”
And as open-world titles operate many content types in parallel, matchmaking is a key issue they’re addressing. For now, the team is planning to introduce PvP content “in the form of events rather than as core content.” You can look forward to more details on this shortly.
More reveals on the horizon
With a 2025 launch in sight, the team plans to continue sharing updates throughout the year. Mr. Koo revealed that this August, “we’ll be reconnecting with everyone once again at Gamescom.” A new promotional video will be revealed during Operation Night Live, along with a major announcement.
