Avatar: Realms Collide Review: A fresh Avatar storyline combined with 4x Strategy gameplay

Embark on an epic journey to defeat the Dark Spirits!

Avatar: Realms Collide, a 4x strategy title from Tilting Point, is set in the beloved Avatar universe. The game offers a unique experience with a new Avatar storyline, iconic characters, exciting gameplay, and cool villains. You can survey hidden villages, attack enemy troops, clear Avatar Trail stages, and unlock your favorite heroes from the franchise. In this Avatar: Realms Collide review, I will share my impressions of this game and provide an honest opinion.

For this review, I played Avatar: Realms Collide on Motorola G32 (Android), racking up a total of 15 hours of playtime. This allowed me to fully explore and experience everything that the game has to offer, providing me with a solid foundation for a thorough analysis.

Step into the shoes of your favorite Avatar characters

Starting with the review, let’s dive into the gameplay experience of Avatar: Realms Collide. The game quickly grabs your attention with its Avatar appeal, especially with Aang’s entrance, the Blender summoning, and everything in between. The game offers a proper introduction to all the features and utilities.

You will be greeted with various simple tasks, like upgrading the Town Hall and setting up the Hall of the Avatar, and the Altar of Heroes, among others. It gets more fun once you start summoning iconic characters and try to clear the Avatar Trial stages.

The gameplay is quite simple, however, it is fun nevertheless, with resource management, strategically upgrading your heroes and buildings, going on expeditions, fighting against powerful Scattered Skulls, assisting your Alliance, attacking other flights in Skyroad Challenges, and more.

Avatar: Realms Collide introduces a new captivating storyline in the Universe

One of this game’s biggest selling points, I believe, is the introduction of a fresh storyline in the Avatar franchise. If you are a big fan of the Avatar franchise, you are surely gonna love it, especially the cinematic intro, which sets the tone of the game nicely.

The storyline revolves around a dangerous cult devoted to Father Glowworm, an ancient spirit. Their growing power and attacks disrupt the peace of the world, including the Four Nations, and as a Leader, you must recruit powerful benders, find iconic Avatars and Heroes, and battle against Chanyu and the Shattered Skulls.

The game starts with an intense attack on your base by Chanyu and the Shattered Skulls, and almost defeats your force. However, just when everything seems to end, Aang makes a heroic entry, a scene I truly enjoyed. You get to use Aang’s special skill to strike back, which also takes a toll on his body.

As the story slowly unfolds, you will also encounter various iconic characters from the Avatar universe. I love the tiny bits here and there, and the introduction of these characters, and it becomes more engaging as you level up.

Great visuals and audio design, but it’s still a 4x title

Coming to the game’s visuals and audio design, the visuals are impressive for a 4x strategy title, and do justice to the Avatar franchise. The characters are also well-crafted, and the environment, buildings, and structure are nicely designed. However, you need to remember it is yet another 4x title with little to no innovation to the core aspects.

The audio design is not bad, and you can actually enjoy it without having to mute, unlike some other games. Overall, both the visuals and audio complement the game well, offering you an immersive experience.

Controls and UI are well-designed and come without any clutter

Speaking about the controls and user interface, Avatar: Realm Collide offers a simple and well-designed manner, making it easy for you to navigate everything without any confusion. The UI, especially, is done well, and goes gives justice to the game, although the expedition map may look cluttered.

As for controls, they are also quite simple, with most of the stuff following idle mechanics, so you mainly have to tap for upgrades, research, summon, and more.

IAPs look tempting, but you can still enjoy a free-to-play approach

Avatar: Realms Collide offers a variety of in-app purchasable items, especially the Construction Quene Bundle, through which you can permanently unlock the 2nd Construction queue, which is honestly worth the money.

While you might be tempted to spend money to speed up your progress, especially with items like the Starter Bundle, various Special Bundles, and the Supply Depot, including 30 days of Speedups, Gems, and more, you don’t necessarily have to spend.

Apart from the Construction Queue Bundle, if you can control your temptation, you can easily enjoy the game as a free-to-play player. However, with this approach, you will have to invest a lot more time in the game, which I believe is worth it if you are enjoying it.

Final Verdict

Avatar: Realms Collide is an enjoyable game that brings Avatar lore and characters to the table, combined with fun strategic gameplay and idle elements. While it quickly grabs your attention with Avatar hype, new lore, and gameplay, that retention capacity fades away over time.

You can have fun unlocking iconic Avatars and Heroes, and summoning Benders from the four Nations, and it also has a nice storyline, along with various events and challenges, expeditions, alliances, and more.

However, if you are someone who is familiar with the 4x games, then this might be just another title for you with nothing new except the avatar skin. It is very unfortunate to see all the 4x titles releasing every alternate month, following the same old gameplay style with new skins.

But if you have not played any 4x strategy games before, I suggest you try and experience it yourself.

Good

Avatar: Realms Collide brings the iconic lore and characters to life with engaging gameplay. While the game does capture attention with its new lore in the Avatar universe and a solid storyline, it still is just another 4x mobile strategy game.
