Dragon Traveler Overview

Let’s start with the gameplay overview to help you get a clear idea of how it works. Similar to Seven Knights Re:BIRTH, it also begins with visually stunning prologue like tutorial filled with humor, where you’ll learn the basics. And as you progress, you start unlocking more Luminaries and then set them in formation.

During combat, you can drag the portraits of your Luminaries to the designated areas to unleash their Overdrive (Ultimates). You can also cancel the casting based on the situation and save some Overdrive Points. And with the Luminaries, your main character (Protagonist) also joins the battle and attacks continuously.

Now, the characters also have different roles, and you need to position them accordingly. For instance, Assassins prioritize attacking the opposing Luminary in the same lane, and can move stealthily via non-Guardian Luminaries. That said, the Boss Battles are really fun here with cool skill animations.

Dragon Traveler Gameplay Basics

Luminary

You can check out all your Luminaries in the Luminary section, and also perform Star Upgrades to increase their Attributes and Talent Levels. As they level up to certain Star Levels, they unlock new Talent Effects. And, if you can reach Lv.100, they also unlock Class Resonance.

You can also own multiple Luminaries of the same name, and while their Star Levels being independent, they share Level, Gear, and other progression systems. Also, R-grade and above Luminaries come in two Factions, with the second unlocking when they reach 6-Star.

You can also do Divine Awakening on SSR or above ones for more power. And make sure to equip them with proper gear, including Headgear, Bracers, Chestplate, Weapon, Accesory, and Boots. And do check the Luminary Codes and activate them to obtain some Diamonds.

Protagonist

Here the protagonist you choose in the beginning also joins the battle and thanks to Dragon form activation, you can also switch forms during battle. Now, different forms need corresponding Dragon Soul activation, and you can increase its strength, intelligence, agility, and more via Artifact activation and more.

Initially, you can only access Adventure mode, where you earn Diamonds, Random SR Luminary, Wyrm Essence, and more. But as you clear the Main Story stages, you’ll unlock more modes like Champin Expedition, Heart Trial, Mythos Conquest, Training Camp, and a lot more.

Dragon Traveler Beginners Guide: Tips and Tricks

1. Don’t skip the Prologue tutorial

The game opens up with tutorial-like gameplay in the beginning stages, teaching you the core gameplay, how to perform Overdrive, position your Luminaries, all while enjoying the storyline. So, you shouldn’t skip them.

2. Perform your Overdrives smartly

During battles, it is very important to know when to use your Luminaries’ Overdrive and also how to tactical save Overdrive Points. So, try to use them smartly and mainly use the SR or SSR one’s Overdrives more as they tend to deal more damage. Also learn to cancel them according to situations.

3. Build solid formations and place your Luminaries properly

Here, Luminaries have different roles like Guardian and Assassin, and you need to take maximum advantage of their roles to have an upper hand during the battles. Like, you can place your Guardian in the adjacent lane to enemy Luminary’s Assassin to block them from attacking your backline.

4. Don’t ignore your Protagonist and their Dragon Form

As you know by now, your chosen Protagonist also fights alongside your Luminaries, letting you switch between Dragon forms during combat. By properly upgrading them, you can further increase your team power for better results. Moreover, each Dragon also comes with different Overdrives.

5. Focus on upgrading your Luminaries

While, unlocking more Luminaries is nice, you should instead focus on upgrading them to their max level first. As you perform breakthrough, you can unlock different skills for your Luminaires while also increasing their overall power. This is especially important when you reach tougher stages.

6. Don’t forget to equip Gear on all your Luminaries

Now, many forgets this stage while upgrading their Luminaries and that shouldn’t be the case. As you progress, you earn a lot of Gear and you shouldn’t shy away from equipping the right ones to your main lineup of Luminaries. This way, you increase their Crit, Crit Damage, Attack Speed, HP, and more.

Final Thoughts

Dragon Traveler is a charming RPG that I found really enjoyable thanks to its visuals, humor, and strategic combat. I mainly loved performing the Overdrives because of the cool animations, which is also one reason why I don’t use the auto mode features.

That said, as you unlock more Luminaries and different game modes, and also progress through the stages, the game can get a bit challenging. I mean the enemies improve and you get to face tougher Bosses. But if you follow this guide properly, you’ll have a smooth and pleasant experience.
