When it comes to an action movie franchise that deserves a mobile game, the John Wick series is easily at the top. Starring the ever-popular Keanu Reeves, this action-packed saga has a massive fanbase, which makes it surprising that we still don’t have a dedicated action game for it. So, let’s dive into this dream and imagine what a John Wick mobile title could be like!
Featured Column – Mobile Games We Wish Existed
GamingonPhone’s Mobile Games We Wish Existed is a fun column where we imagine creative game concepts and explore how popular IPs could be made for mobile. From fan-favorite franchises to niche gems, we dive into what could make these dream games both exciting and playable on the go.
What is John Wick all about
If I had to give a quick gist of this iconic series, John Wick is a brutal action film franchise by Derek Kolstad, with Keanu Reeves playing the iconic hitman. The story begins with him being reluctantly pulled back into the underworld scene even after he retired, which I find very compelling.
If we go back to the past, he used to be one of the most dangerous hitmen in the world, earning the fear and respect of everyone as the Baba Yaga, or the Boogeyman. However, he retired to live a blissful life away from all the chaos with his wife, who sadly passed away from an unknown illness.

But his retirement came with conditions, since he had worked with the Tarasov Mob, completing near-impossible missions like killing all their enemies in a single night. The best part is he did it, and managed to live peacefully for over 5 years, until his boss’s son killed his dog, sparking the events of the series.
I’m a big Keanu fan, and with John Wick 5 in development, now feels like the best time for a mobile game adaptation. I believe it has huge potential if executed well, either in Hitman games-like style or with a completely exclusive lore and characters, while capturing the action and world-building of the series.
Genre for an imagined John Wick title
I think a John Wick game should go all-in as an action-adventure, something like HITMAN World of Assassination, focusing on tactical combat and the cinematic action the series is known for. Like, just imagine starting as a younger John Wick in the Continental, taking on missions that challenge your stealth, gun game, and close-combat skills.
I mean, it will be really fun if we get to choose our approach, whether sneaking in for surprise attacks, setting up traps, or you know, just shoot everyone in sight like John Wick’s usual style. And if we get a solid arsenal of weapons, including the signature pencil to stab enemies, it would be like a cherry on top.
The main gameplay could offer contract killings across a not-so-vibrant city, underworld areas, and high-level missions like Hitman: Absolution, with formidable enemies and Bosses. And I don’t mind if it includes gang chaos and such. And besides story-driven campaigns and sidequests, it would be perfect if our failures affect the overall reputation, and we’ve to again work on that.
Art style and visuals for an imagined John Wick game
And if a John Wick is ever to happen, I would surely love to see it in a semi-realistic look, similar to other beloved titles like Sniper Elite or Assassin’s Creed Mirage, but with a solid cinematic touch. I’m already getting excited imagining neon-like streets, luxury hotels, rainy alleys, and more with sharp lighting.

Now, for character design, I don’t want them to look very cartoonish, and prefer that they choose a level of realism for it, so as to keep the faces, outfits, and personality true to the original materials. And since John Wick is all about action sequences and intense moments, it would be great to have movie-like cinematic scenes in between missions.
And whoever picks it up will have to dedicate a good time to offer smooth gunfights and close-quarter combats, as it should feel fluid and impactful to us long-time fans, while having full control of the action, without any idle elements. I hope it doesn’t shy away from including gore or brutal fights.
Beloved characters from the franchise that could shine in a John Wick game
Now, the characters are equally important as they add more depth to the overall game experience. And the characters from the John Wick fit well as in-game Bosses or important NPCs that can guide you during certain missions or contracts. It would be nice if we could team up with them to clear missions.

I wish to see iconic characters like Viggo Tarasov and his son, Iosef Tarasov, Ms. Perkins, who betrays the Continental, Killa Harkan, Tracker, Santino D’Antonio, or even The Marquis de Gramont as Bosses, or high-priority contracts that you need to eliminate in this far-fetched game.
Besides the villains, other characters like Winston Scott, Aurelio, Charon, or even the Continental Doctor can be introduced as important NPCs that guide us throughout the game. In a way, this will make the game feel more immersive, in my opinion.
Why a John Wick game will be great for mobile
I mean, John Wick is already a highly acclaimed IP loved by many, and like the Hitman series, it can tap into the mobile gaming industry too. Also, considering we already have so many John Wick movies, there won’t be any issue content-wise, as it can either be a full adaptation or be inspired by them.
And with the latest trend of cozy, auto-battle titles and dungeon games, a proper action-adventure title based on such intriguing material would be a solid refresher for many. Both the movies and Keanu Reeves have a great fanbase, and IP simply has to utilize it properly, as it can easily appeal to both new and old fans.
