Back in April 2021, Riot Games has announced its first grand event, the Legends of Runeterra World Championship 2021. The esports tournament, finally, is nearing its end soon as the date for the world’s event has been announced from 16th September 2021 to 18th September 2021.
The Legends of Runeterra World Championship 2021 is the event of the first world hosted by Riot Games. The tournament is featuring a massive amount of $200,000 as of the championship money along with the glory to take home the title of World Champion. The top 16 players across the globe will be fighting each other to make a way to the trophy.
Legends of Runeterra, released in April 2020, is a digital collectible card game developed and published by Riot Games. The free-to-play title is available for both Android and iOS devices. The game has some characters from Riot’s hit MOBA title League of Legends: Wild Rift. In this game, only skills are the key to win and players have to mix and match iconic champions, allies, and regions of Runeterra to unlock unique card synergies and outplay the opponent.
Legends of Runeterra World Championship 2021: Format
Starting from September 4th to September 5th, the top 256 competitors from Asia, SEA, Europe and the Americas have faced off in the World Championship Qualifiers. The qualifiers narrowed down the field to the sixteen players whom viewers will see at the World Championship.

The tournament will follow a two-stage play namely the group stage and the playoffs stage. 16 participants will compete in a round-robin format, divided into four groups containing four players in each. The top two players from each group will advance to the next stage. Moreover, eight participants from the group stage will fight in a single-elimination bracket. Regional Slots and Participants
In the finals event of the Legends of Runeterra World Championship 2021, there will a total of 16 players competing against each other. The allocated slots for each region are as follows.
- Six players from the Americas
- Five players from Europe
- Five players from both Asia and Southeast Asia

Prize pool
The Legends of Runeterra World Championship 2021 has a flexible budget in the Prize Pool set for the players. More than $200,000 will be awarded to the players as prize money. The shares which each player will get are not revealed yet. However, viewers and players who are active during the World Championship will receive cosmetic rewards.
We’re starting off with a free cardback and icon bundle in the store for all players from patch 2.14.0. Viewers who tune into the semi-finals broadcast on the 16th and 17th will be eligible to collect a unique cardback and player icon specific to the event!
