The National High School Pokémon Unite Championship, commonly known as Pokémon Unite Koshien 2023 has ended today and People of Eos from Seiko Gakuin High School have won the title and were crowned as the champions after defeating Team Obatazu from Otemon Gakuin High School by 3-2. Winning the tournament has made People of Eos the best high school Pokémon Unite team in Japan.
Pokémon Unite Koshien 2023: How it went for the champions
The top four teams from four regions started the finals on the 6th of August 2023. The champions, People of Eos and Team Obatazu moved to the intense grand finals. Both teams delivered some intense moments filled with actions and the ultimate showdown of skills. The first round went to the champion’s pocket, while the next two were taken by the runner-up Team Obatazu.
However, in the match-deciding final round, People of Eos did not spare any chances for their opponents and scored 379 goals to take the match away and became the Pokémon Unite Koshien 2023 champion. Repeat grade avoidance macro from Niigata Prefectural Murakami Secondary School claimed the third place followed by Loose Poke Yuna from Kashii Technical High School.

A successful event in 2022 brings back the second edition
The Pokémon Unite Koshien tournament was first held in 2022. A huge response was recorded that time with 1200 high school students as participants. Following the success of the first event, Pokémon Co., Ltd., and Japan TV sponsored the second edition of the tournament, Pokémon Unite Koshien 2023 this year to find the high school champion.
Before the grand finals took place on the 6th of August, registration for the event was open in early April 2023. Dividing the country into four regions, the online qualifier held in June. Later, four regional champions were promoted to the grand finals which takes place as an offline event. Japanese model Nicole Fujita was the cheering leader of the tournament.
