Read further to find out more about PMGC 2022.

S2G Esports campaign in PMGC 2022: Overview

PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2022 was a very bumpy ride for the audience, due to the repeated occurrences of surprising and unexpected results happening in the event. The biggest surprise of all was the end of the one-sided domination of Nova Esports at the highest stage of competition of PUBG Mobile. Nova had finished in the top 2 of all Global Championship events, which they have participated in since 2019, and won the last two PMGCs. But, it does not take anything away from this year’s champions, who have been stellar in their own rights.

Going into the final day, almost all the teams in the top 8 of the table had a shot at the winner’s crown, but the gaps slowly began to stretch out and beyond the reach of others. At a point, it looked like the old domination of 4AM would be back, when they were only 5 points away from the top spot with 3 games in hand, but S2G Esports soon pulled away out of reach. Another surprise came from the side of the Nepalese team DRS, who was the last team that anyone expected to challenge for the top spot and finish second but they did just that, and therefore showed us their potential.

The Grand Finals did not go the way many people thought it would, as the teams which performed well in the group stages did not seem to regain that momentum again, which includes teams like Nova, 4AM, Influence Chemin, and Buriram United.

Prize pool

Although this year’s PMGC saw a drop in the amount of prize money up for grabs, the amount was still a lot, nonetheless. Each team participating in the Grand Finals got a participation prize of $20,000, added onto the $10,000 participation prize, which they got from the group stages. Meanwhile, the winners S2G Esports secured an amount of $400,000, while runner-ups and third-placed DRS Gaming and Alpha7 Esports took home $292,000 and $217,000 respectively.

The most coveted individual title in the tournament, the Finals MVP went to Top from STE, who also secured the Gunslinger title for getting the most kills. 4AM Wei Wuxian, or Wwx got the Eagle Eye title for the longest kill and VPE FlukeTH earned the Field Medic title for the most revives. Last but not the least, T2K Sand3shS got the Grenade Master title, for the most number of grenade eliminations.

Final Thoughts

The PMGC 2022 ended on a high note for the West region as their representative S2G won the tournament. It also ended the streak of a Chinese team being there on the podium places of all the global events. S2G has consistently shown itself as being capable of big things and this PMGC is the tournament where they fulfilled all expectations and reached their potential. The new season of PUBG Mobile will kick off soon, albeit with some minor changes.
