Wild Rift League (WRL) Asia 2023: Tournament Format, Teams and Prize Pool

The recent S-Tier tournament in South Asia, Wild Rift League (WRL) 2023 has brought the best teams Wild Rift teams from Asia. With the ongoing League or Regular Season in play, the top teams will make their way to the playoffs of the tournament. After the announcement of Riot Games to focus mainly on the Asia market for Esports and remarks of Leo Faria about the stooping low reception of Wild Rift in Western countries, eyes will be focused on how the tournaments pan out in Asia, the game’s only viable market at present. Let us discuss the Wild Rift League (WRL) Asia 2023 in detail.

Wild Rift League (WRL) Asia 2023: Tournament Format

Regular Season

To start off with the Regular Season, the teams have been segregated into two conferences, namely CN Conference and APAC Conference. The matches will be played between the 8th of April, 2023 till the 11th of June, 2023. Teams will play with each other in such a fashion in a Bo3 format.

  • Single Round-Robin against teams in the same conference
  • 1 match each against half of the teams in the other conference.

Th top 8 teams in CN Conference and the top 4 teams in APAC Conference will be qualifying for Playoffs.

Playoffs

Starting from the 20th of June, 2023 till the 9th of July, 2023, the playoffs will be played in Bo7 format. Teams will play in a Double-elimination bracket within their conference. The APAC teams will be playing in the Upper bracket, and the top 4 teams of the CN conference will start in the Upper bracket, whereas the other teams are playing in the lower bracket. The top 2 teams from each conference enter the Grand Finals.

Grand Finals

The Grand Finals featuring 2 teams from each conference will play in a Round Robin Group Stage. On the basis of the points in the Grand Finals, the teams will be entering the Play-offs, where the first-placed team will sit in the Grand Final, the 2nd place team in Semi-final and the 3rd placed and 4th placed teams will face each other. These will be played in a Bo3, Bo5, and Bo7 format respectively.

Final Thoughts

Although the prize pool has not been formally announced, the tournament has shaped up quite nicely for the viewers. Making its debut in the Chinese subcontinent, it has picked up teams from Vietnam, the Phillipines and Southeast Asia and more through qualifiers. Riot Games’ decision to give some time to the other regions barring Asia is a fruitful one, as we have now witnessed more competitive games and thrill!
