MONOPOLY GO! continues stellar run, crosses $3 Billion in lifetime revenue

$4 billion soon!

Writing this article is pretty overwhelming for me, because wow! Yet another landmark has been achieved by the blockbuster casual game MONOPOLY GO!, which has now crossed over $3 Billion in lifetime revenue, extending its stellar run in the market.

In their Second Quarter 2024 Earnings Conference Call by Hasbro, it was reported that revenue grew by 20% year over year in Q2, thanks in large part to the strong performance in digital licensing, with MONOPOLY GO! leading the way. The game was launched in April 2023 and on alternative app stores in August of the same year.

The continued momentum of MONOPOLY GO! in Q2 boosted the company’s revenue

In addition, it was highlighted that Scopely’s licensing was a significant success. The continued momentum of MONOPOLY GO! in Q2 accelerated revenue recognition beyond the minimum guarantees, boosting revenue and operating profit. With all these added, the game has grossed over $3 billion since its launch, which has just been over a year.

I had the pleasure of covering the news when MONOPOLY GO! shattered the $2 billion revenue mark just 10 months after its launch. Back then, I boldly predicted that MONOPOLY GO would hit $3 billion by August 2024, given its skyrocketing popularity. Boy, was I almost right! It smashed through that milestone even faster than I thought, a month before, which is great.

The modern-day rendition of the ever-popular Monopoly board game retains the essence of the original game and fantastic events for players or shortcuts to get more Dice Rolls to fill their bags with freebies such as Money and collect stickers which kept the interest value high.

So, prediction time again? This time, I’m a bit more cautious, but hey, it’s okay to take a guess. Boldly, I’ll say that before this year ends; maybe even by Christmas, the $4 billion mark will be surpassed, given the game’s current pace. What are your guesses?
