Clash Royale bringing back the Retro Royale means only one thing: we have to change our current strategies. If you have been following decks featuring Evolutions and Champions, well, it’s time to forget all that and prepare decks for the Retro Royale mode with 80 OG cards in Clash Royale.
There are plenty of cards to choose from still, so you don’t have to worry much; tweak it a little, and you are good to go. However, if you’re wondering what decks work best, here’s a guide to help you pick the best Retro Royale decks.
Best decks to choose for Retro Royale mode in Clash Royale
As I mentioned, no special mechanics means adjusting to old-school play is kind of different. But, there is another advantage to this mode too. With just 80 cards in play, most decks feel predictable, so you start recognizing patterns fast.
Defense is everything in this mode, so a stronger defense has a better chance of winning the game. Keeping all this in mind, my three recommended decks are given below.
1. X-Bow, Ice Golem, Musketeer, Skeletons, Ice Spirit, Tesla, Fireball, The Log
Average Elixir Cost: 3.0
The first deck is X-Bow Cycle, and I must say this isn’t the traditional deck you’ve been using till now. Bit of a difference and slightly heavier compared to the 2.6 Cycle. You drop X-Bow, defend it as your life depends on it, and chip away at towers. It’s super satisfying when your opponent can’t break through.

Tesla and Ice Golem are lifesavers against swarms and tanks. You just keep cycling Ice Spirit, Skeletons, and Log to chip away, with Fireball as the win condition. If the opponent has a heavy deck, it’s a tough battle, but constant pressure keeps it running smoothly. You can copy the deck here.
2. Giant, Dark Prince, Prince, Electro Wizard, Bats, Spear Goblins, Poison, Zap
Average Elixir Cost: 3.5
Who remembers this Double Prince deck from back in the day? I’ve seen players using this quite often still, but yes, this was pretty common back then. Giant leads the charge while both Dark Prince and Prince clean up anything in their way.

Electro Wizard makes sure Inferno Towers don’t melt your push, and Poison shuts down swarms. The deck is heavy, so bad elixir management can be a disaster. Defending can be tricky if you don’t have enough elixir for a counterpush. Copy the deck here.
3. P.E.K.K.A, Battle Ram, Dark Prince, Bandit, Electro Wizard, Minions, Poison, Zap
Average Elixir Cost: 3.9
One of the popular decks back in the day, and it’s a tough one to beat. P.E.K.K.A is your tank killer, while Bandit and Battle Ram are your quick-to-go tower-hitting cards. Electro Wizard and Poison make sure defenses crumble, giving your pushes even more power.

Against air, surely this deck isn’t a big advantage, but mostly you can push forward with ease and opt to go for a three crown with a heavy push. If you misplay P.E.K.K.A, though, defending becomes a nightmare. You can copy the deck here.
