FPL 2021/22: Best Budget options for your Fantasy teams

It's easy to pick the big players, but who are some of the cheap bargains to fit your budget?

It is only a week or so remaining for the beginning of another 38 weeks of non-stop action and drama in the top flight of English football, a.k.a the Premier League. When putting together your squad it’s good to include a few cheaper options to fill the squad and free up cash to invest in your starting eleven. It’s ideal to spend as little as possible on these players but you still want to ensure you’ve got someone to fall back upon for some emergency points. Here are some of the best FPL 2021/22 budget-friendly bargain options for your fantasy squads.

Also, decent budget-priced players increase the bench quality, which comes in handy whenever necessary. The fantasy managers also have to take care that the budget alternatives they choose return them a decent amount of points. However, rest assured fantasy managers, we got you covered about this. In this installment about the FPL, we will say about the best budget options you may have in the game.

Best budget-friendly and bargain options for your FPL 2021/22 Fantasy teams

Goalkeepers

To start with, there is always a clash of opinions on whether to take cheaper goalies in your squad to increase budget in other positions or rather rely on the safer hands of a premium-priced goalkeeper, more likely to keep a clean sheet. . For goalkeepers, the £4m-4.5m price may be considered as the cheap or budget ranged price. There are several options from mid-table teams whose goalies have lesser chances of keeping clean sheets.

However, the reasons to have them in your squads are the guaranteed start and the number of saves they have to make. Nick Pope was a favorite pick in the past few seasons, due to the latter reason. Now that Pope and Martinez’s price has touched the £5m mark, FPL managers are in search of alternatives. Here are a few options the readers should consider-

Robert Sanchez (BHA) – 4.5m

The Spanish shot-stopper from Brighton and Hove Albion replaced Matt Ryan in the Brighton goal last season. In his 27 league appearance, Sanchez kept 10 clean sheets and made 66 saves. Since the rest of the matches were played by Ryan, there’s more we might see of Sanchez on goal. Also, Brighton conceded the least amount of goals (46) last season.

FPL 2021/22 Best Budget options: Robert Sanchez

Now with the departure of Matt Ryan, Sanchez is likely to be the first choice goalie for Brighton. Also, Brighton faces 2 of the 3 promoted sides in their first four games. We sincerely hope these reasons have convinced the FPL managers and his price enough to consider him in the squad.

Daniel Bachmann (WAT) – 4.5m

A goalkeeper from a promoted team always becomes the center of attraction recently and this season is no exception. Daniel Bachmann was the 1st choice goalie for the Austrian National team who was eliminated by the Champions Italy in the Round of 16. He and Ben Foster started 23 games each in the Watford goal and helped make Watford the least goal-conceding side in the championship last season (33).

FPL 2021/22 Best Budget options: Daniel Bachmann

The Watford manager has also confirmed that Bachmann would be the first choice keeper in the Premier League. Hence, for £4.5m, Bachmann is a decent choice worth giving a shot. Watford has a decent run of fixtures for the first seven weeks, except the Tottenham game. FPL managers may also take both the Watford goalkeepers in their teams, so that if Bachmann doesn’t start, Foster plays anyway. Besides them, Vicente Guiana (CRY), A. McCarthy (SOU), Karl Darlow (NEW), etc are decent options and sure starters within £4.5m.

Defenders

The fantasy managers need to be very cautious while choosing the perfect combination for their defenses. A defender in FPL may provide you 6 points for a goal, 3 points for an assist, and 4 points for a clean sheet, and is the only position among the available four, which is more likely to give all these points together in the same match, besides the bonus points. Hence, the defense is the most important part of a fantasy team, which also requires a balance in the budget. Defenders’ price ranges from £4m to £7.5m, and it would be wise to follow our guide about the best budget or cheaply priced defenders in the game, basically for £4.5m.

Also, while choosing defenders, fullbacks, wingbacks, and midfielders who are defenders in FPL, always have been the favorites to the FPL managers. Hence, to know the decent budget options to keep in your teams, besides premium defenders like Trent, Robertson, Digne, continue reading our article.

Luke Ayling (LEE) – 4.5m

The Leeds United defender was a surprise package last season besides his team, to say the least. The English fullback is an important asset of Marcelo Bielsa’s energetic Leeds United team. Although he couldn’t manage a single goal or assist last season, he might do so in the next season and his current ICT rating and ranking prove it. The reason for saying so is his 0.6 shots per game and 0.7 key passes per game for 38 matches. Also, he is a regular starter, and started all the 38 games and managed to keep 11 clean sheets.

FPL 2021/22 Best Budget options: Ayling

He scored a total of 100 points last season and is a top contender for a place in the fantasy managers’ teams, in case they are looking for cheap alternatives. Leeds has difficult first few fixtures, however. This fact might make the FPL managers bench Ayling which shouldn’t be a concern due to his low price. Hence, Ayling may not be a good choice initially but may prove his worth in the long FPL run.

Ben White (ARS) – 4.5m

The new Arsenal signing from Brighton is their record spending for a defender. The English defender was the first-choice center-back at Brighton, and there are several reasons why he should be the same for Arsenal. With the quality of defense, the Gunners already had last season (conceded only 39 goals, which was the third-lowest), now with White’s addition, it might get even better.

FPL 2021/22 Best Budget options: Ben White

There would not be any other better option for a defender, who would have a guaranteed start, is more likely to keep a clean sheet within this price. So, considering Arsenal’s easy run of fixtures for the first 11 game weeks, except the Chelsea and Manchester City game, fantasy managers should consider Ben White as a decent choice. Not to forget his 104 points last season, which mostly came from clean sheets and bonus points.

Max Aarons (NOR) – 4.5m

Taking Norwich defenders wouldn’t be a good choice if viewed from the perspective of clean sheets. However, the low-priced Norwich fullback has much attacking potential and had 2 goals and 2 assists in the Championship last season, besides keeping 17 clean sheets. He started almost all the matches last season and would continue to do so in the top division this time too.

Max Aarons
FPL 2021/22 Best Budget options: Max Aarons

With 1.4 key passes per game, Aarons comes with a decent attacking potential for a budget-priced defender. However, Norwich has a very difficult first few weeks, and by difficult we mean genuinely difficult. With the likes of matches against Liverpool, Manchester City, Leicester City, and Arsenal, Aarons may be the perfect £4.5 million bench player for your team.

Rayan Ait-Nouri (WOL) – 4.5m

The 20-year-old French fullback/wingback also plays as a left-midfielder if asked to by the manager. The new Wolves manager Bruno Lage is of attacking mindset. Also, with the injury of Pedro Neto, Ait-Nouri might be the answer for the left flank of the Wolves. Also, Rayan has played in all of the Wolves’ preseason matches and is likely to start once the league starts too.

FPL 2021/22 Best Budget options: Rayan Ait-Nouri

Hence, Rayan would be another addition to a budget defender, who is a starter and plays as a midfielder in real life, with a lot of attacking potential. However, Wolves have an easy run of fixtures from game week 4 to game week 9, and it would be wise to have him at that time, otherwise, keep him on the bench.

Konstantinos Tsimikas – 4.0m

FPL 2021/22 Best Budget options: Konstantinos Tsimikas

A rather surprise and late addition here, the Liverpool left-back is so cheaply priced, mainly because of his low chances of featuring in the league games. However, now with the injury of Andy Robertson, for a minimum of a week or two, or more than that, Tsimikas of 4m price is likely to feature in the Liverpool defense, who have very favorable first two fixtures. Also, he looked quite sharp in the preseason with a few assists too. Lest we forget to mention the defenders who will play alongside him, which might also give the managers some fantasy points for the clean sheets they keep together.

Besides them, managers should also keep an eye on £4.5m defenders like M.Lowton (BUR), W.Fofana (LEI), C. Coady (WOL), W. Troost-Ekong (WAT), F. Sierralta (WAT), etc too.

Midfielders

Perhaps the position creating all the imbalance in the budget of the FPL squads. The range of price of midfielders is from as low as £4.5m to the highest of all, at £12.5m. This is the position the FPL managers want to spend big on. The likes of premium-priced midfielders like Salah, Mane, De Bruyne, Son, Bruno Fernandes also return handsome amounts of points, hence their high prices. However, it is impossible to have both a balanced squad and more than two premium midfielders together in the team at the same time. Besides, players like Dallas, Cantwell, etc., who were defenders in the game previously, are now midfielders, and there are better options in midfield than them.

The defenders who were defenders last season, but are midfielders in FPL now, would obtain 3 points less than before for a clean sheet, and 1 point less for each goal. In this position too, fantasy managers have to buy budget-priced alternatives. To know about the budget midfielders of the game available within £6.5M, do read on.

Tomáš Souček (WHU) – 6.0m

The Czech international surprisingly established himself as a vital FPL asset last season. With 10 goals and 1 assist, he accumulated 147 points across all the 38 games he featured in. He has a threat index of 925.0 (due to the goal threats he possesses during setpieces, especially with the headers during corners), which is the 2nd highest among the midfielders of this price range.

FPL 2021/22 Best Budget options: Tomáš Souček

Besides, he is also ranked 2nd in the influence index (208.8) for the midfielders within this price. Hence, within £6m, you get a guaranteed starter who possesses great threat on goal. However, with the European games West Ham have to play this season, he might not feature in all games like the previous season, but in August yes, he would start surely.

Bukayo Saka (ARS) – 6.5m

FPL 2021/22 Best Budget options: Bukayo Saka

Leading in the ranks for threat index with 984.0, the Arenal starlet can be a vital part of fantasy squads. In the previous season, the Englishman accumulated 114 points, which is bound to increase this time. With the addition of White in defense, the fullbacks and the flank players might have more liberty to move forward now. As previously said, he also poses a great threat in front of the goal. He scored 5 goals last season and averaged almost 2 shots per match. Arsenal’s initial fixtures are also favorable, except the Chelsea and Manchester City match. Hence for £6.5m, Saka might prove to be a bright asset this time around, with the promise he has been showing recently.

Ismaïla Sarr (WAT) – 6.0m

The Senegalese winger of Watford scored 13 and assisted 4 in the Championship last season. He also had decent stats for Watford, the season they got relegated. He had a 1.1 key pass per game, which was better than the 0.9 marks in the season before. With 2.2 shots per game and 0.8 on target per game, he also posed a great threat in front of the opponent goal.

FPL 2021/22 Best Budget options: Ismailla Sarr

The 23-year-old is expected to feature for more time this season before he has to go for the AFCON in January. Overall, he would be worth giving a shot, in case you have the likes of Salah, Bruno already in the squad. Also, since he is a wing-forward but a midfielder in FPL, players like these always have been giving a fair amount of points.

Emiliano Buendía (AVL) – 6.5m

FPL 2021/22 Best Budget options: Emiliano Buendía

The ex-Canary was an integral part of Norwich’s attack for both the times they gained promotion to PL in the past 3 seasons. In the previous season, he scored 15, assisted 16 for Norwich City, and helped them get promoted. He was the player of the week 15 times. A really good signing for Villa indeed, especially whilst the Grealish transfer saga is going on. Aston Villa has an easy run of fixtures for the first 3 weeks, and with the role, Buendia has been playing in their preseason, he would likely have a decent first season with Aston Villa. However, now out with injury, he might feature for Villa once he is fit to play.

Note: Buendia has missed the last two pre-season games due to a hip injury, make your move for him only after the latest updates

Besides these names, players like J. Ward-Prowse (SOU), R. Neves (WOL), M. Jensen (BRE), B. Mbuemo (BRE), Raphinha (LEE) are also decent options within £6.5m and deserve scouting by FPL managers.

Forwards

There always have been a constant debate and difference in opinion among FPL managers about whether to spend big on midfield and take 3 low-priced decent forwards. Some also prefer to play safe and take the likes of Kane, Vardy, Aubameyang alongside budget forwards. Either way, fantasy managers need decent budget forwards for their teams. Hence, read along to know about the budget beast forwards available in the market within £6.0-£7.5m. There are also forwards for £4m-£5.5, however, they are not even close to being starters.

Ivan Toney (BRE) – 6.5m

Ivan Toney
FPL 2021/22 Best Budget options: Ivan Toney

Probably a name many would have anticipated. The Brentford forward was just phenomenal last season. With 3 shots per game and 1.3 shots on target per game, he managed 31 goals in the championship last season. Not much has changed in the Brentford squad since then, hence a similar performance may be expected if Brentford manage to cope up with top division football. He also provided 10 assists last season and averaged 1 key pass every game. Hence, a complete package for a forward, he might turn out to be a steal for £6.5m.

Michail Antonio (WHU) – 7.5m

FPL 2021/22 Best Budget options: Michail Antonio

Despite his troubles with injury, Michail Antonio has reached double figures in back-to-back seasons averaging 5.4 points per 90 minutes in 2020/21. Ending the season with 7 goals and 5 assists from gameweek 19 onwards West Ham’s joint top scorer ranked amongst the top six FPL forwards for that period. Just five players in his position fired more shots in the box and only Vardy and Kane could better his 14 big chances. The Hammers take on Newcastle Crystal Palace and Southampton in the first four gameweeks each given a difficulty rating of just 2.

Besides these mentioned names, managers should also scout the performances of budget forwards like T. Pukki (NOR), K. Ilheanacho (LEI), C.Wilson (NEW), J.King (WAT), etc. and add them to their squads when they feel the time to be perfect.
