FPL 2021/22 Gameweek 4 Watchlist: 5 Fantasy players to watch out for

5 players to transfer in for the next gameweeks!

After the end of FPL 2021/22 Gameweek 3, there has been a lot of share of points with some of the premium assets failing to deliver huge points. Apart from the popular picks, there are quite a number of players, who have impressed over the weekend with points and underlying stats. The onset of good fixtures along with their form can really turn them into good replacements for the underperforming assets of the fantasy team. All the managers are trying to stabilize their teams with suitable options before the price hikes. In this FPL 2021/22 Gameweek 4 Watchlist, we will be looking at 5 Fantasy players, who could become future transfer targets, carrying their good run.

FPL Fantasy 2021/22 Gameweek 4 Watchlist

1. Cristiano Ronaldo (Forward) – 12.5 million

The man needs no introduction. It’s the second coming of Cristiano Ronaldo as he signed for Manchester United hours before the transfer deadline day. The 36-year-old was the top goalscorer in Serie A last season netting 29 times in 33 appearances, 31 goals the season before, and surpassing Romelu Lukaku‘s tally of 24 goals in 36 appearances for Inter Milan.

While it’s important to not get too carried away, this isn’t Ronaldo in his prime, but still, if he manages to score 25 goals this season, it is still worth very much considering. With the expectation that he’ll come in and take over penalty duties downgrading Bruno Fernandes in midfield is likely to be a popular route to fitting him in. We can expect Bruno not to continue with his penalty and freekick duties which will damage his potential returns. Meanwhile, Ronaldo will be the automatic captaincy choice from United as and when they have an easy fixture. With the next match against Newcastle, who has already shipped 8 goals thus far, CR7 is already a good captaincy pick for this week.

2. Ferran Torres (Midfielder) – 7.1 million

After seeing his effort ruled out by VAR against Norwich in gameweek 2 the Spaniard made amends with three-goal involvements in a 5-0 win over Arsenal last weekend continuing to line up in an out of position number 9 role. No teammate took more than his 10 touches in the opposition’s box or exceeded his 2 big chances. No FPL midfielder has had more than his 3 big chances throughout the season and he ranks top amongst players in his position for expected goals with 1.65.

Pep Guardiola offered him some high praise after his game comparing Torres to Jamie Vardy with his movements in behind. With Man City not signing a striker this summer it certainly looks as though he’ll get plenty more opportunities to lead the line through upcoming fixtures that could be better with away ties against Leicester Chelsea and Liverpool in the next four games.

Note: FIFA has recently banned 8 Brazilian players for the upcoming gameweek from the Premier League including the likes of Ederson and Gabriel Jesus from Man City. Whilst Jesus’ exclusion does not necessarily guarantee Torres a starting spot, he is likely to continue to feature on the number 9 role given his form and can thus provide an easy route to bring in Cristiano by replacing Bruno Fernandes.

3. Diogo Jota (Midfielder) – 7.6 million

Diogo Jota is back on the radar now that Roberto Firmino, who was named ahead of him in the starting eleven to face Chelsea but had to be withdrawn before halftime with a suspected hamstring injury. If the Brazilian were to be sidelined for a number of weeks it would bring Jota back into consideration for upcoming features against Leeds Crystal Palace and Brentford over the next three games.

The Portuguese international averaged a chance every 15.7 minutes against the blues in gameweek three with no player from either side able to better his 3 shots inside the box. Throughout the season Jota ranks top amongst teammates for big chances with 3 while his 0.49 non-penalty expected goals figure per 90 minutes can only be beaten by Firmino with 0.61.

Note: With the ban issued by FIFA on the 8 Brazilian players for the upcoming gameweek, Roberto Firmino along with Alisson and Fabinho are all set to miss the next gameweek giving the likes of Diogo Jota an automatic starting place in the squad.

4. Adama Traore (Midfielder) – 6.0 million

Wolves were unfortunate to lose one-nil for a third successive game again outperforming their opponent’s unexpected goals. So far this season they’ve recorded the sixth-highest xG of 5.05 while only Man City and Liverpool have taken more than their 57 shots. But one man that continued to look threatening for them this weekend was Adama Traore who danced around the United defense with ease and created 4 chances.

His 0.71 expected assist figure was comfortably the best of any player in that match only ranking behind Grealish and Mahrez amongst all midfielders this game week. Throughout the season Traore ranks joined top amongst players in his position for chances created with 9 while only Mo Salah has fired more than his 12 shots. He only trails Ferran Torres for expected goals meanwhile with a figure of 1.57 compared to the 1.65 managed by the Man City number 9. Ties with Watford, Brentford, Southampton, and Newcastle in the next four gameweeks can surely help to turn those impressive numbers into guaranteed scoring returns

5. Demarai Gray (Midfielder) – 5.6 million

The final player is someone who has come on everyone’s radar recently ie Demarai Gray. Obviously, he’s got a few returns in the first three games with 2 goals. He has been brought in by quite a few managers for this upcoming gameweek and his price is the main reason to do that. He is currently probably the best sort of budget midfielder under six million if you’re looking for someone to play almost every week and that should be a cheap midfielder to facilitate the move for someone else.

Although, note his underlying statistics aren’t great at all it looks like he was fairly lucky or he overperformed in the first two in the to get those first two goals so don’t expect him to continue at that rate but if you are playing with a 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 and you need a mid who is below 6m then Gray is your man. As your extra midfielder, Gray is a nailed-down starter and will get the maximum minutes. Additionally, Everton‘s fixtures are the ones to watch with home ties against Burnley and Norwich coming up in the next three gameweeks. Gray possesses an expected assists figure of 0.10 and an expected non-penalty goals figure of 0.12. Given his stats, there is a chance this could be a trap but Gray seems promising given his fixture. Alternatives could be Doucouré (5.5 million) and Smith Rowe (5.4 million) within the same price bracket
