FPL 2021/22 Double Gameweek 33 Free Hit Guide: Best players for the double gameweek

Players who can bring some extra FPL points for the next gameweek

Another FPL double game-week is just around the corner, which isn’t the first and definitely isn’t the last either. Gameweek 33 of the Premier League is packed with fixtures and derby drama, as teams rush to secure as many points before the season comes to a close. We’ve got matches like Chelsea vs Arsenal and Liverpool vs Manchester United all taking place within the space of just one week. Seven teams will play twice in the following 7 days: Arsenal, Brighton, Burnley, Leicester, Manchester United, Newcastle, and Southampton. A selected few teams will be missing out on the action though, with Wolves, Leeds, and Aston Villa all without a GW33 fixture. Therefore, there is an opportunity for FPL managers to use their chip resources, and hence we brought you the FPL Double Gameweek 33 Free Hit Guide.

For FPL managers, this is another great opportunity to gain points over league rivals. With so many swings in the fixture schedule, it has been a little difficult to plan effectively. Luckily, all players have been granted a second Free Hit chip, and this week could be a great time to use it.

FPL Double Gameweek 33 Free Hit Team: Goalkeepers

Martin Dubravka (4.4 million)

FPL Double Gameweek 33 Free Hit

The Newcastle defense has been surprisingly solid in the second part of this season. In the last 10 gameweeks, the Magpies rank 5th for the least goals conceded (11) and have managed the joint third most clean sheets as well (4). Newcastle play twice in GW33 against Leicester and Crystal Palace, both at home as well. Dubravka is a solid keeper covering that defence and is priced at just 4.4 million with just 28% ownership.

FPL Double Gameweek 33 Free Hit Team: Defenders

1. Fabian Schar (4.4 million)

The Newcastle defense has obviously been very solid, and their double fixtures are both at home, and against preferable opposition. It could be worth doubling up here, and Schar is a great 2nd player to do so. In addition to his clean sheet contributions, Schar has also bagged 2 goals over the last five game-weeks. The Argentinian surprisingly ranks top for the joint-most shots (8) and the most shots on target (4) at Newcastle.

2. Trent Alexander-Arnold (7.9 million)

There have been a few doubts over owning Liverpool players ahead of their derby clash with Manchester United. However, Liverpool’s craving for points in their title charge combined with Manchester United‘s lack of confidence pushes the odds in Liverpool’s favour quite heavily. The match will be played at Anfield, which is known as one of the toughest stadiums to play at. United are rock-bottom for xG in the last five game-weeks and they’ve failed to keep a clean sheet since GW27. Alexander-Arnold’s impact on a football match is unquestionable, and he is a player worth having in GW33.

3. Joao Cancelo (7.0 million)

Another single game-week player that is too good to pass on. Manchester City have a nice home fixture against Brighton in GW33 as well, so there is little doubt on whether Cancelo is good enough. However, t’s more about whether he plays at all, as Pep Guardiola likes to shake his line-up every now and then. As a key player, Cancelo will be needed in the FA Cup tie against Liverpool on Saturday 16th. The Brighton fixture will be 4 days later, on Wednesday 20th. Manchester City will play again 3 days later on Saturday 23rd. It’s highly likely Cancelo will be rested for at least one of the games – 11th placed Brighton should pose a greater threat than 19th placed Watford.

4. Timothy Castagne (5.3 million)

Castagne didn’t start last weekend when Leicester faced Crystal Palace – likely in preparation for the midweek Europa Conference League tie. It’s likely the Belgian plays twice in GW33, where the Foxes have trips to Newcastle and Everton. Castagne marked his return from injury in GW30 where he scored a goal and contributed to a clean sheet to total a 14-point haul. He is a heavily attacking wing-back that likes to push into the box to create chances, and he may well do just that.

FPL Double Gameweek 33 Free Hit Team: Midfielders

1. Bukayo Saka (6.8 million)

Arsenal have suffered back-to-back league defeats recently. However, they do have a double gameweek coming up in GW33. This features a tie against Southampton, who just come off the back of a 6-0 defeat, and a London Derby with Chelsea. Not many classic Top 6 sides play twice this week, so it’s a good idea to look at Arsenal players, especially on a Free Hit.

Bukayo Saka has been the best-attacking player at the club this season by far, with 9 goals and 6 assists. Over the last five game-weeks, he has had team-leading totals for shots on target (4), key passes (14), big chances created (2), and touches in the opposition box (40). If you’re going to go for an Arsenal attacker this week, Saka is definitely the best option.

2. Harvey Barnes (6.6 million)

Leicester City‘s European commitments have bumped up the rotation risk of key players. Brendan Rodgers looks like he wants the Conference League, and has planned his team accordingly. Whilst James Maddison has looked the most on-form Leicester player, he played 89 mins in GW32. There’s every chance he is rested at least once in GW33, considering Leicester’s packed fixture schedule.

Harvey Barnes was benched in GW32, so he’s likely to start in GW33. Over the course of the season, the 23-year-old has ranked top at his club for assists (8), shots in the box (41), and touches in the opposition box (112).

3. Kevin De Bruyne (11.8 million)

De Bruyne is another premium option that has looked really deadly these last few weeks. The Belgian has totalled 41 FPL points over City’s last four matches, netting 4 goals, 1 assist, and a further 8 bonus points. The lack of owning Salah could backfire, however, the latter has managed just two goal contributions in the last 7 game-weeks. The more on-form KDB is also owned by just 8.7% of FPL managers, making him a fantastic differential.

4. Jadon Sancho (8.9 million)

To say Manchester United have a weird double fixture would be a massive understatement. In the space of one week, the Red Devils will face 20th placed Norwich at home, and title contenders Liverpool away. The first fixture is definitely one to target, but the trip to Anfield is about as dark as it gets in the Premier League. Nonetheless, a Manchester United attacker will be worth having in GW33, despite their recent poor form.

Jadon Sancho had a slow start to the season since his £80 million move in the Summer. However, he’s quickly become a fan favourite and has chipped in with some FPL points too. Up till GW20, Sancho had only managed 1 goal in 14 appearances, since then, he’s scored 2 more and added a further 4 assists in 12 appearances. Over the last five game-weeks, the Englishman ranks top at his club for expected assists, chances created (9), and touches in the opposition box (21). With just a 3.1% ownership, any return could be very beneficial.

5. Heung-Min Son (11.1 million)

Son is currently in fantastic form at the moment. He is averaging 12.8 points over the last five gameweeks and has had three double-digit hauls in all three of Spurs’ last matches. The winger is one of the must-haves in this Free Hit draft, despite only playing a single gameweek.

FPL Double Gameweek 33 Free Hit Team: Forwards

Ivan Toney (5.9 million)

The forward market in FPL has been very dull lately, with only a select few players worth even considering. Going for a double game-week playing asset is one strategy, but a certain striker has been putting up impressive numbers lately. Ivan Toney has bagged 3 double-digit hauls in his last 5 appearances, recording just 1 blank in that period. That includes an impressive 6 goals and a further 2 assists.

Forward

Clearly, Toney means business, and he’s got a great opportunity to carry that form through in GW33, where Brentford face Watford. he has the potential to outscore most forwards in the game despite playing once, and the alternatives at his price point aren’t very exciting either.

FPL Double Gameweek 33 Free Hit Team: Reserve Bench

Goalkeeper – Scott Carson (3.9 million)

Dubravka is expected to start both games in DGW33 so a playing back-up keeper isn’t necessary.

1st Option – Armando Broja (5.5 million)

Southampton face Arsenal and Burnley in GW33. They haven’t been at their best recently, especially after the 6-0 thrashing against Chelsea, but they’ve been home to some good FPL assets this season. One of them being Armando Broja. The budget forward has missed all his shots recently, but he is the Saints’ 2nd best goal-scorer. All in all, though, a 5.5 million player that has contributed well to his team is enough to cover off the bench if needed.

2nd Option – Charlie Taylor (4.4 million)

Burnley aren’t the most exciting team FPL-wise, but the recent fixtures have certainly attracted a bit of interest from FPL managers. They’ve always been a bit of a frustrating team but their assets don’t usually cost a fortune and still have decent return potential. Taylor is a good budget defender that covers the Burnley defence, and could bag some points should he need to come off the bench in this Free Hit draft.

3rd Option – Lewis Richardson (4.5 million)

Richardson is the cheapest forward in the game, releasing some useful funds for the rest of the team.

FPL Double Gameweek 33 Free Hit Team: Tips and Strategy

Captain choices

There isn’t a standout double game-week player that looks good enough for the captain’s armband, and the premium players in this Free Hit draft look just as capable. The Spurs’ goal-scoring form has been incredible lately. Conte’s men have hit the back of the net 25 times in the last 7 games, averaging a crazy 3.6 goals per game. Heung-Min Son himself has been very explosive and is expected to carry that form through against Brighton.

1. Avoid getting caught up in DGW Fever

It’s always tempting to hoard a bunch of double game-week players, especially on a Free Hit. However, many premium players that play once still have the ability to outscore most DGW players. About 5-7 DGW players should be enough for this set of double fixtures.

2. Don’t pass on Son/Kane

The Spurs attack has been incredibly clinical in recent weeks, averaging 3.6 goals per game over the last 7 games. Having at least one of Son or Kane is pretty much essential going into GW33. Picking which one depends more on which fits the team better. Both have great haul potential, but Son being cheaper makes him a slightly more appealing option.

3. Dropping Salah can be a real possibility

Salah’s lack of form returns has been very frustrating for owners. It seems like a risky thing to do but leaving Salah out, especially if on a Free Hit, could pay dividends. Premium players like KDB/Bruno/Son all have low ownerships in comparison to Salah’s 58.2%. However, if any of them outscore Salah, the rank boosts will be huge. It’s a risky strategy but the possible advantages of it are massive, and it may be worth it for those chasing in their leagues.
