Genshin Impact Charlotte Guide: Abilities, Playstyle, and More

Genshin Impact's latest 4* Charlotte and her abilities explained!

Genshin Impact Version 4.2 debuts the 4* character “Lens of Verity” Charlotte (cryo/catalyst). She was the first Fontaine character to be introduced in the story. This guide will provide a detailed breakdown of how her abilities work and how to play Charlotte in a team in Genshin Impact.

Genshin Impact Charlotte Guide: Abilities description

Talent upgrade priority

Elemental Burst > Elemental Skill. Normal Attack is useless unless built specifically for an on-field DPS role.

Normal attack: Cool-Color Capture

Normal Attack

Taking aim at targets using Monsieur Verite, her custom Kamera, Charlotte performs up to 3 consecutive attacks, dealing with Cryo DMG.

Charged Attack

Consumes a fixed amount of Stamina, and after a moment’s preparation, will deploy Monsieur Verite to deal AoE Cryo DMG.

Plunging Attack

Gathering the power of Cryo, Charlotte plunges toward the ground, dealing DMG to all opponents in her path and dealing AoE Cryo DMG upon landing.

Arkhe: Pneuma

At certain intervals, upon using a Charged Attack, Charlotte will cause a Spiritbreath Thorn to descend and pierce opponents, dealing Pneuma-aligned AoE Cryo DMG.

Elemental Skill: Framing: Freezing Point Composition

Using the keen instincts of an ace reporter, Charlotte uses her photography skills to produce different effects based on whether the ability is Tapped or Held.

Tap

Takes a snapshot using Monsieur Verite, dealing AoE Cryo DMG to opponents in front of her and applying Snappy Silhouette to a maximum of 5 opponents. During this effect’s duration, it will deal Cryo DMG to affected opponents at intervals.

Hold

Popping Monsieur Verite‘s viewfinder open, Charlotte enters Composition Mode, and during this time, the viewfinder will expand as you hold until you reach a Finisher Frame state. In this state, Charlotte can move and change direction freely.

When the hold state ends, Monsieur Verite will deal Cryo DM to all opponents locked on within the viewfinder, and apply the same Snappy Silhouette as Tap Mode does to them. If you unleash this ability only after reaching Finisher Frame, you will instead apply Focused Impression, which lasts longer and deals more DMG, although the Skill CD will be longer. Composition Mode lasts a maximum of 15 and allows a maximum of 5 opponents to be selected.

Elemental Burst: Still Photo: Comprehensive Confirmation

Condensing ice to create The Steambird’s signature, Charlotte creates a Newsflash Field that will deal with AoE Cryo DMG and restores HP for all nearby party members based on Charlotte’s ATK.

Newsflash Field

  • While the ability is active, Monsieur Verite will deal Cryo DMG at intervals to opponents within its AoE.
  • Will continuously restore HP to active character(s) within its AoE based on Charlotte’s ATK.

Ascension 1 passive: Moment of Impact

When opponents marked by “Focused Impression” are defeated, Framing: Freezing Point Composition’s CD will be decreased by 2s. This CD decrease can be triggered 4 times every 12s.

Ascension 4 passive: Diversified Investigation

When the party contains 1/2/3 Fontainians other than herself, Charlotte gains a 5%/10%/15% Healing Bonus. When the party contains 1/2/3 non-Fontainians, Charlotte gains a 5%/10%/15% Cryo DMG Bonus.

Utility passive: First-Person Shutter

After activating the Special Analysis Zoom Lens, Charlotte’s Framing: Freezing Point Composition Hold Mode cannot trigger its original effects, but instead enables her to take photos in a rather unique manner…

Genshin Impact Charlotte Guide: Abilities explained

Normal attack: Cool-Color Capture

Charlotte’s normal and charged attacks have a very unique animation where she takes pictures of enemies with her camera. Quite fitting for her role as a photojournalist. However, they offer very little value in combat. Her charged attack can apply Pneuma, which is good for breaking Ousia shields.

Elemental Skill: Framing: Freezing Point Composition

Charlotte’s Elemental Skill functions slightly similar to Nahida’s. The tap version marks enemies in front of her. She creates a viewfinder with the hold version and all enemies within the frame get marked. She can freely move around during this, but she has no interruption resistance. If she gets hit, it will unleash only the tap version.

Charlotte can only mark enemies that are within the frame directly in front of her, unlike Nahida who can turn around and continue marking enemies all around her. The hold version increases the size of the frame and stops after 2s. Both the tap and hold version can mark a maximum of 5 enemies, unlike Nahida who can mark a maximum of 8 enemies.

Marked enemies will take Cryo DMG every 1.5s. DMG of the hold version is slightly higher than the tap version. Marks from the hold version last 12s meanwhile those from the tap version only last 6s. The mark applies Cryo on enemies multiple times, which makes it easy to keep them frozen.

Elemental Burst: Still Photo: Comprehensive Confirmation

Charlotte’s Elemental Burst is one instance of huge party-wide healing, followed by a field created that periodically heals the active character and applies Cryo to enemies inside it. The healing is the main function of her Burst.

Ascension 1 passive: Moment of Impact

This passive decreases the cooldown of her Skill when marked enemies are defeated. It is not very useful against boss encounters.

Ascension 4 passive: Diversified Investigation

Charlotte gains a healing bonus or Cyro DMG bonus depending on the number of Fontainians and non-Fontaininas in the party.

Utility passive: First-Person Shutter

This passive works with a gadget that will be obtained in version 4.2.

Genshin Impact Charlotte Guide: Playstyle

Charlotte’s playstyle is very simple, just like her kit. It is not worth using her as an on-field DPS since her DMG multipliers are very low. Even if you chose to play her on-field, at least you will not be losing out on the healing since both her DMG and healing scale are off of ATK.

  • Use her Elemental Skill whenever it is available, always use the hold version.
  • Use her Elemental Burst whenever it is available.

Final Thoughts

Charlotte is a Cryo healer who shares the spotlight with Qiqi, Diona, and Mika. Mika and Charlotte can provide instant party-wide healing, unlike Qiqi and Diona. Charlotte is much better than Mika at applying Cryo. Considering all of these things, Charlotte’s best use case would be in a freeze-focused Furina team. That said, as a healer, she is useful in any team that appreciates frequent Cryo application, or any team where Cryo does not interfere with the team’s main reaction.
