Genshin Impact Clorinde Guide: Materials, Weapons, Artifacts, Abilities, Playstyle, and Team Comps

Everything you need to know about Clorinde to bring her to the max potential!

Genshin Impact Version 4.7 Update debuts the new event-exclusive 5* character “Candlebearer, Shadowhunter” Clorinde (electro/sword). This guide will explain everything about how to build Clorinde and play her in Genshin Impact.

Genshin Impact Clorinde Guide: Abilities description

Talent upgrade priority

There is no need to upgrade her Normal Attacks since the multipliers for her pistol attacks and lunge attacks come from her Elemental Skill. Her Elemental Burst is not an important source of DMG but it should be upgraded to at least level 7 because the BoL gained from her Burst scales off its level.

Elemental Skill > Elemental Burst

Normal Attack: Oath of Hunting Shadows

Normal Attack

Performs up to 5 rapid strikes.

Charged Attack

Consumes a certain amount of Stamina and fires Suppressing Shots in a fan pattern with her pistolet.

Plunging Attack

Plunges from mid-air to strike the ground below, damaging opponents along the path and dealing AoE DMG upon impact.

Elemental Skill: Hunter’s Vigil

Preparing her pistolet, she enters the Night Vigil state, using steel and shot together. In this state, Clorinde’s Normal Attacks will be transformed into Swift Hunt pistolet attacks, and the DMG dealt is converted into Electro DMG that cannot be overridden by infusions, and she will be unable to use Charged Attacks.

Using her Elemental Skill will transform it into Impale the Night: Perform a lunging attack, dealing Electro DMG. The DMG done through the aforementioned method is considered Normal Attack DMG.

Swift Hunt

  • When her Bond of Life is equal to or greater than 100% of her max HP: Performs a pistolet shot.
  • When her Bond of Life is less than 100%, firing her pistolet will grant her Bond of Life, with the amount gained based on her max HP. The shots she fires can pierce opponents, and DMG dealt to opponents in their path is increased.

Impale the Night

The current percentage value of Clorinde’s Bond of Life determines its effect:

  • When the Bond of Life value is 0%, perform a normal lunging strike;
  • When the Bond of Life value is less than 100% of her max HP, Clorinde is healed based on the Bond of Life value, and the AoE of the lunging attack and the DMG dealt is increased;
  • When the value of the Bond of Life is equal to or greater than 100% of her max HP, use Impale the Night: Pact. The healing multiplier is increased, and the AoE and DMG dealt by the lunge is increased even further.

In addition, when Clorinde is in the Night Vigil state, healing effects other than Impale the Night will not take effect and will instead be converted into a Bond of Life which is a percentage of the healing that would have been received.

Clorinde will exit the “Night Vigil” state when she leaves the field.

Arkhe: Ousia

Periodically, when Clorinde’s Swift Hunt shots strike opponents, she will summon a Surging Blade at the position hit that deals Ousia-aligned Electro DMG.

Elemental Burst: Last Lightfall

Grants herself a Bond of Life based upon her own max HP before swiftly evading and striking with saber and sidearm as one, dealing AoE Electro DMG.

Ascension 1 Passive: Dark-Shattering Flame

After a nearby party member triggers an Electro-related reaction against an opponent, Electro DMG dealt by Clorinde’s Normal Attacks and Last Lightfall will be increased by 20% of Clorinde’s ATK for 15s. Max 3 stacks. Each stack is counted independently. The Maximum DMG increase achievable this way for the above attacks is 1,800.

Ascension 4 Passive: Lawful Remuneration

If Clorinde’s Bond of Life is equal to or greater than 100% of her Max HP, her CRIT Rate will increase by 10% for 15 whenever her Bond of Life value increases or decreases. Max 2 stacks. Each stack is counted independently. Additionally, Hunter’s Vigil’s Night Vigil state is buffed: While it is active, the percent of healing converted to Bond of Life increases to 100%.

Utility Passive: Night Vigil’s Harvest

Displays the location of nearby resources unique to Fontaine on the mini-map.

Genshin Impact Clorinde Guide: Abilities explained

Understanding the Bond of Life mechanic

Clorinde’s entire playstyle is based around the Bond of Life mechanic. We need to first understand BoL before trying to understand her kit. BoL is a new mechanic introduced in Fontaine. It can be applied to characters by certain enemies and certain weapons.

Genshin Impact Bond of Life mechanic
  • BoL covers the HP bar with a red bar
  • It prevents the character from getting healed
  • BoL is applied as a percentage of max HP rather than a fixed amount
  • The total amount of BoL is 200% (2x of max HP). Since the red bar covering the HP bar is proportional to the BoL and max HP, it covers half of the amount of BoL. If the BoL is 100%, the red bar will cover half of the HP bar, if the BoL is 200%, it will cover the entire HP bar
  • BoL acts like an additional HP that needs to be removed by healing before the actual HP of the character can be healed. For example, if a character has 100 points of BoL then they need to be healed for 100 points before their actual HP can be healed
  • BoL can be cleared by healing a specific amount by visiting the Statue of the Seven
  • BoL has a duration of 10 minutes, after which it will be cleared on its own

Clorinde gains BoL when she uses Normal Attacks after using her Skill. She can also gain BoL from her Elemental Burst. Using her Skill when she is in the Night Vigil state will consume BoL and heal herself. Healing sources from allies will be converted into BoL during the Night Vigil state.

Normal Attack: Oath of Hunting Shadows

This is not an important part of her kit.

Elemental Skill: Hunter’s Vigil

Clorinde enters the Night Vigil state after using her Skill and brings out her pistol. During this state, all of her attacks are electro-infused and cannot be overridden. Using her Normal Attacks will grant her 35% BoL. After 3x Normal Attacks, she will have 105% BoL which is the max she can gain from her Skill. These Normal Attacks can also pierce enemies if they are lined up. Please note that she doesn’t have to hit enemies to gain BoL.

After 3x Normal Attacks, she cannot gain any more BoL. When she has any amount of BoL, using her Skill again would consume all BoL and perform a forward lunge with her sword. She also heals herself based on the amount of BoL consumed. Using her Skill without any BoL will perform a much weaker version of the forward lunge.

The healing and DMG from this forward lunge are based on how much BoL she has, and it maxes out at 100% BoL. The forward lunge should only be used when she has more than 100% BoL. Any BoL over 100% does not affect the amount of DMG. Clorinde cannot be healed in the Night Vigil state and 80% of the healing received from allies will be converted into BoL. Another thing, Clorinde needs to be in the Night Vigil state to be able to do the forward plunge, merely having BoL is not enough.

Elemental Burst: Last Lightfall

Her Burst animation deals 5 instances of electro DMG, all of them with the same multiplier. She also gains a certain amount of BoL immediately after using her Burst, this amount scales with her Burst talent level. Using her Burst grants her enough BoL to perform a forward lunge without having to build up BoL with pistol shots.

BoL gained from this way can exceed the 105% limit of her Skill. As in, if she already had BoL from her Skill, the BoL gained from her Burst will add to it. But since any BoL over 100% does not affect DMG in any way, avoid using the Burst when she already has BoL.

Ascension 1 Passive: Dark-Shattering Flame

Clorinde gains 20% increased ATK whenever any party member triggers an Electro reaction, max 3 stacks. This doesn’t have to be a unique reaction, it can be the same reaction. This means having more ATK is beneficial since she can gain even more ATK from this passive.

However, the maximum amount of ATK increase she can gain is 1800, meaning any base ATK beyond 3000 will not be counted for this passive. With 3000 base ATK and 1800 increased ATK, Clorinde can easily have 4800 ATK thanks to this passive.

Ascension 4 Passive: Lawful Remuneration

Clorinde’s CRIT rate receives a buff whenever her BoL increases or decreases after reaching 100%. This is very easy to achieve with regular gameplay.

Utility Passive: Night Vigil’s Harvest

Useful exploration is passive for Fontaine.

Genshin Impact Clorinde Guide: Playstyle

Clorinde’s playstyle is very simple, it involves activating her Skill, reaching max BoL, and doing the forward lunge attack. Avoid using her Burst if she already has BoL.

  • Burst (gain BoL)
  • Rotate through teammate abilities
  • Skill (activate Night Vigil state), Skill (forward lunge attack, consumes BoL gained from Burst), then 3 Normal Attacks (gain BoL), Skill (forward lunge)
  • Repeat this until the Night Vigil state lasts

If her Burst isn’t ready then the rotation will look different.

Genshin Impact Clorinde Guide: Materials

As an Electro character, Clorinde uses Vajrada Amethyst stones for ascension and they can be obtained from the Electro Hypostasis and the Electro Regisvine. Her other ascension material, Fontemer Unihorn can be obtained from the “Millennial Pearl Seahorse”. Her talent materials can be obtained from the Pale Forgotten Glory domain on Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday. The boss materials for her talents can be obtained from Guardian of Apep’s Oasis weekly boss.

Genshin Impact Clorinde Guide: Best Weapons for Clorinde

Clorinde’s kit revolves around scaling through ATK, with Crit and EM as sub-stats. Fortunately for Clorinde, her F2P-friendly weapons are diverse and there won’t be any significant damage difference as such. For weapons, you will mainly focus on any weapons that provide high Base ATK with a Crit sub-stat.

Genshin Impact Clorinde Guide: Best Artifacts for Clorinde

Clorinde is mainly an ATK scaling unit and has a certain new mechanic added to her called the Bond of Life mechanic that takes away her HP to provide more enhanced damage.

As such you would only need to prioritize ATK-related scaling and buffs. You would want an ATK Sands, an Electro DMG Goblet, and lastly a CRIT Circlet. Sub-stats you should look for are CRIT then EM and lastly ATK, with ER being a bonus, but not needed. Keep in mind that the Sands and Goblet can be inter-changeable depending on your build and team preference when using Clorinde.

SandsGobletCirclet
ATK% (EM for a more Aggravate/Hyperbloom Build)Electro DMG% (or ATK% for a more consistent build)CRIT rate/CRIT DMG
4pc Fragment of Harmonic Whimsy2-Piece Bonus
ATK +18%

4-Piece Bonus
When the value of a Bond of Life increases or decreases, this character deals 18% increased DMG for 6s. Max 3 stacks.

Reason:
Clorinde’s best-in-slot set. The set provides ATK and gives DMG stack bonus when her Bond of Life changes. It can be maxed out up to 54% DMG bonus.
4pc Thundering Fury2-Piece Bonus
Electro DMG Bonus +15%

4-Piece Bonus
Increases DMG caused by Overloaded, Electro-Charged, Superconduct, and Hyperbloom by 40%, and the DMG Bonus conferred by Aggravate is increased by 20%. When Quicken or the aforementioned Elemental Reactions are triggered, Elemental Skill CD is decreased by 1s. Can only occur once every 0.8s.

Reason:
Another ideal set for Clorinde as she can reduce her Skill cool-down by triggering Electro-related reactions. Additionally, the set will allow Clorinde to enter her Night Vigil state a lot quicker after the previous state expires. Best for Hyperbloom Clorinde.
4pc Gladiator’s Finale2-Piece Bonus
ATK +18%.
4-Piece Bonus
If the wielder of this artifact set uses a Sword, Claymore, or Polearm, increases their Normal Attack DMG by 35%.

Reason:
The set provides ATK bonus and Normal Attack DMG Bonus which is perfect for Clorinde since her main damage will come from her NA and CA. A great set if you haven’t farmed her BiS set yet.
4pc Marechaussee Hunter2-Piece Bonus
Normal and Charged Attack DMG +15%
4-Piece Bonus
When current HP increases or decreases, CRIT Rate will be increased by 12% for 5s. Max 3 stacks.

Reason:
Another good set although not ideal as Clorinde can be at risk for over capping on Crit Rate. Having Furina paired with Clorinde will help elevate the effect due to her healing.

As for her ER target, it can vary from low to almost nothing. This is due to many factors, one of which is her Elemental Burst being a low Energy Cost so you’ll get it back fairly quickly depending on your team party and energy sources.

Another main factor is how her Elemental Burst is essentially less prioritized in her kit since your main damage will be dealt with by your Skill and NAs. You would only activate her Burst every two rotations or so. As such you should generally aim for 100%-140% ER with added Electro party members.

Genshin Impact Clorinde Guide: Constellations

All of her constellations add more DMG, but none of those are required. C1 and C2 are both great stopping points. For whales, you can go as high as you want.

Genshin Impact Clorinde Guide: Best Team Compositions for Clorinde

Clorinde only works well in one type of team: Aggravate. This is because of her fast Electro attacks. Her best teammates are Nahida for Dendro and Fischl for more Aggravates. The 4th slot is open for supports like Kazuha/Zhongli/Sucrose.

Clorinde and other DPS in Genshin Impact

Clorinde is a fun and stylish character to play. However, she has two major drawbacks: lack of proper interruption resistance and low Skill uptime. These two factors combined can make her sometimes clunky to play. Recently Genshin Impact, especially characters released after Fontaine (Neuvillette, Arlecchino, etc), tend to have maximum uptime and minimum downtime.

Clorinde’s Skill duration is so short that if you don’t press the buttons fast enough, you can’t even complete three full combos. This is unacceptable in the post-Fontaine META. Her DMG isn’t a huge issue if you play her in the only type of teams she’s good at (Aggravate). She is not bad at all, just slightly underwhelming compared to other DPS characters released after Fontaine.
