Genshin Impact Guide: Best Artifacts Build for Wriothesley

Best Artifacts Builds of Wriothesley!

Genshin Impact introduced the next line of the Fontaine playable character, Wriothesley, 5-Star Cryo Catalyst character that is now available in Version 4.1. To briefly summarize Wriothesley’s kit and play style, he is a Normal Attack on-field DPS character who specializes in dishing out a high amount of Cryo damage when he uses his Elemental Skill. His kit acts similar to Wanderer once they enter their Elemental Skill mode and deal increased damage from your basic attacks. As such, his build will entirely depend on how you want to play him out but generally, you should look out for stats that provide ATK, Crit, and maybe EM. Wriothesley has a variety of Artifact options to choose from that are viable to use. In this Genshin Impact guide, we will be focusing on the best Artifacts build for Wriothesley to use in the game.

Artifact Sets

4-Piece: Marechaussee HunterSets to built

Explanation: Wriothesley’s BiS Artifact Set is tailored significantly to his kit. Wriothesley’s main damage will be coming towards his Basic Attacks (Normal Attacks and Charged Attacks) where he will deplete his HP for more DMG when using his Elemental Skill and also self-heal when HP is running low with his Passive. As such the 2-piece bonus will help increase his CA DMG by 15% and the 4-piece will increase Wriothesley’s Crit Rate by 12%/24%/36% depending on the stacks.
2-Piece: Normal and Charged Attack DMG +15%

4-Piece: When current HP increases or decreases, CRIT Rate will be increased by 12% for 5s. Max 3 stacks.
4-Piece: Blizzard StrayerSets to built

Explanation: Wriothesley’s 2nd Best in Slot Artifact Build if you plan on using him in a Freeze team comp. The 2-piece bonus provides a 15% Cryo DMG bonus and the 4-piece gives a 20% Crit Rate when hitting Cryo-affected enemies. An additional 20% more Crit Rate is gained against Frozen enemies. This is Wriothesley’s best set in Freeze teams, but is only recommended in Freeze teams and so can be very limited for Wriothesley. The 4-piece bonus can account for the Crit Rate bonus when you are building Wriothesley and will make it easy for you to build him. But players should aim for their best in slot artifact set for an overall dmg bonus even in any team comps.
2-Piece: Cryo DMG Bonus +15%

4-Piece: When a character attacks an opponent affected by Cryo, their CRIT Rate is increased by 20%. If the opponent is Frozen, CRIT Rate is increased by an additional 20%.
4-Piece: Retracing BolideSets to built

Explanation: Only viable if you use Wriothesley with a Shielder in your team comp. Although a 2-piece bonus is useless, Wriothesley can deal NA and CA DMG with an increased 40% DMG boost.
2-Piece: Increases Shield Strength by 35%.

4-Piece: While protected by a shield, gain an additional 40% Normal and Charged Attack DMG.
4-Piece: Shimenawa’s ReminiscenceSets to built

Explanation: Viable if you produce enough Energy on your Elemental Burst. Wriothesley’s main dmg comes from using his Skill and his Burst is secondary in terms of DMG priority. With the 4-piece bonus, he will deplete his Energy Burst to deal an increased 50% DMG.
2-Piece: ATK +18%.

4-Piece: When casting an Elemental Skill, if the character has 15 or more Energy, they lose 15 Energy, and Normal/Charged/Plunging Attack DMG is increased by 50% for 10s. This effect will not trigger again during that duration.
4-Piece: Vermillion HereafterSets to built

Explanation: Both 2-piece and 4-piece help with Wriothesley’s kit. But he would require a high amount of ER to trigger his Elemental Burst. Since he is a Normal Attack dmg unit, it may be tricky to play through the requirements of this bonus set, so it is not entirely recommended to be equipped with him.
2-Piece: ATK +18%.

4-Piece: After using an Elemental Burst, this character will gain the Nascent Light effect, increasing their ATK by 8% for 16s. When the character’s HP decreases, their ATK will further increase by 10%. This further increase can occur this way a maximum of 4 times. This effect can be triggered once every 0.8s. Nascent Light will be dispelled when the character leaves the field. If an Elemental Burst is used again during the duration of Nascent Light, the original Nascent Light will be dispelled.
4-Piece: Gilded DreamsSets to built

gilded dreams

Explanation: A good set for a reverse melt Wriothesley build and team comp. This set will allow him to deal increased dmg due to the EM bonus and the buffs provided.

2-Pieces: Increases Elemental Mastery by 80.

4-Pieces: Within 8s of triggering an Elemental Reaction, the character equipping this will obtain buffs based on the Elemental Type of the other party members. ATK is increased by 14% for each party member whose Elemental Type is the same as the equipping character, and Elemental Mastery is increased by 50 for every party member with a different Elemental Type. Each of the aforementioned buffs will count up to 3 characters. This effect can be triggered once every 8s. The character who equips this can still trigger its effects when not on the field.
2-Piece Combinations: Nymph’s Dream/Heart of Depth/Vourukasha’s Glow/Tenacity of the Millelith/Marechaussee HunterSets to built

Explanation: If you cannot acquire good 4-piece sets and sub-stats then running 2-piece bonuses on him is recommended. Wriothesley’s main stat priorities are ATK%, Crit DMG/Crit Rate, and Cryo DMG bonuses as it is good for him.
2-Piece Blizzard Strayer: Cryo DMG Bonus +15%

2-Piece Echoes of an Offering/Gladiator’s Finale/Vermillion Hereafter/Shimenawa’s Reminiscence: ATK +18%

2-Piece Flower of Paradise Lost/Wanderer’s Troupe/Gilded Dreams: Increases Elemental Mastery by 80

2-Piece Marechaussee Hunter: Normal and Charged Attack DMG +15%

Some other notable 4-piece set can work but is not entirely recommended if they do not have any other sets mentioned above or they have good sub-stats with their MH set. Other Artifact sets provide better utility and viability overall.

  • 4-piece Desert Pavilion Chronicle: A bit arbitrary since the 2-piece bonus only boosts Anemo DMG. But the 4-piece is great on Wriothesley as he can deal an increased Normal Attacks and Charged Attacks DMG by 40% for 15 seconds as well as increase NA speed.
  • 4-Piece Echoes of an Offering: The 4-piece has a chance to deal an increased Normal Attack DMG, but is known to have issues triggering correctly if you have any lag or high ping.

Ultimately, at the end goal of your Wriothesley build you would no doubt aim for the 4-piece Marechaussee Hunter Set. The DMG comparison with this set compared to the other sets is significantly high. You will lose out a stark amount of DMG if you only aim to not use this set and equip something else. The Version 4.0 Artifacts work perfectly well for the new Fontaine characters so aim to farm such sets.

Artifact Stats

Before we talk about the priority of Artifact stats, the first thing that should be focused on is how much Energy Recharge is sufficient for Wriothesley. Wriothesley has a low-range Elemental Burst cost (60 ER Cost). Because of that, the way that Wriothesley’s kit is built is quite different and unique. As such, Wriothesley does not prioritize his Elemental Burst as much as his Elemental Skill. His kit works quite like Wanderer as mentioned where he deals an increase in Basic Attacks.

Crit Rate/Crit DMG

(More priority on Crit Rate since he ascends with Crit DMG)
  • The sub-stat priority should focus on getting him Crit DMG, Crit Rate, and ATK% since he is an ATK scaling unit. EM (Elemental Mastery) can be a requirement especially if you are using him in a reverse melt team comp.
  • Wriothesley ER requirements can range from 120%-150%. His Burst is not much of a priority as his Skill and Basic Attacks are where he deals the most dmg from.
  • Wriothesley’s Crit Rate/Crit DMG ratio would be entirely up to you. Generally, he ascends with Crit DMG and his BiS weapon has Crit Rate sub-stat. Additionally, Wriothesley’s BiS Artifact Set provides Crit Rate. Keep all of this in mind while you build him.
