A few days ago, Epic Games decided to add a direct in-app purchase option in Fortnite for iOS and Android devices. This was done in protest of both Apple’s and Google’s policies which demand a 30% cut from all in-app purchases on their respective stores. Epic’s addition of a direct payment system to Fortnite and open criticism of the two tech giant’s policies led to the removal of Fortnite from both the App Store as well as PlayStore. Epic has filed a lawsuit against both Apple and Google regarding the matter, and have stated that their policy of demanding a 30 percent cut is unfair and monopolistic. Apple and Google both, however, have stated that the addition of a direct payment system is a clear violation of their Stores’ policies which is why they removed Fortnite. If you already have the game installed on your iOS device, you can still continue to play the game. If you have installed it previously but do not have it installed now, here’s how to reinstall Fortnite on your iOS device, despite its removal from the App Store.
Please note – There is no way to install Fortnite on any iOS devices at this moment if the game was not installed previously.
Steps to reinstall Fortnite on iOS devices
- Open App Store on your iOS device. Make sure you are using the same account which you have used to download Fortnite previously.
- Go to the My Purchases page on the App Store.
- Search for Fortnite in the search bar.
- Download the game once it appears in the search result.
Even though you can download Fortnite on your iOS device using this method, you will not receive any update for the game. Moreover, amidst the ongoing legal battle between Epic Games and Apple, Apple may come up with a fix which might somehow fix this work-around. While there is no official news as to whether Fortnite’s removal from the App Store is permanent, the only thing we can hope for is for it to return to the Store or any alternative method for download that Epic might come up with.
