How Team Role works in KAIJU NO. 8 THE GAME
Before forming a team, understanding how each Unit and the various roles work during combat in KAIJU NO. 8 THE GAME is very crucial. Here, each character has unique attributes and skills and belongs to one of the three roles. It’s important to assess whether your focus should be on offense, defense, or a balanced team.

Understanding Unit Classes
Attacker
The Attacker role is your core damage dealers, and they’re responsible for destroying Kaiju’s plates (PLT), forcing them into a Core Exposed state, and then eliminating them with their attribute-based attacks and skills. It includes powerful 5* Units like Gen Narumi, Kaiju No. 8, Mina Ashiro (Off the Scale), and more.
Defender
Defenders here are tank-like Units that have high survivability, shields, and also provide buffs and debuffs. They’re a must-have in your squad for better performance. It includes durable 5* units like Isao Shinomiya and Sagan Shinomiya, and you can get the former for free via Standard Gacha.
Support
The Support units are very useful for your team, often providing SPD, DMG, CRIT DMG, and more bonuses to allies and battle buddies. So, this game has a thing called Battle Buddy, which is a character you pair with another in a two-person slot within your four-character squad to unleash follow-up skills. This role includes dependable 4* units like Soshiro Hoshina, Ryo Ikaruga, Mina Ashiro, and more.
Examples of Team Composition in KAIJU NO. 8 THE GAME
1. Counter and Damage Synergy (Sagan Shinomiya + Ryo Ikaruga + Gen Narumi + Reno Ichikawa)
If you’re lucky enough to unlock Sagan Shinomiya, you should build a team around her to take advantage of her durability and her strong counter-based skills. Here, you can add Gen Narumi, who happens to be my favorite, as the main Attacker to break Kaiju plates and trigger Core Exposed State.

If you don’t have him, you can also include Reno Ichikawa or Kikoru Shinomiya, who can deal a lot of DMG, and Kikoru’s AOE skill and Ultimate are really helpful too. Now, you can throw Ryo Ikaruga in the mix to make use of his party-wide buffs that raise overall DMG output for better team performance.
2. All-Rounder Formation (Kaiju No. 8 + Kikoru Shinomiya + Mina Ashiro + Isao Shinomiya)
Now, if you want versatility with both waves clearing power and strong Kaiju damage, you should aim for this all-rounder squad setup. You can use Kaiju No. 8 to instantly clear the Yoju with his powerful skills, and add 5* Kikoru Shinomiya to provide consistent AOE damage for better output.

Plus, when facing the stronger Kaiju, the combination of Kaiju No. 8 and Kikoru Shinomiya‘s single-target Ultimates ensures that you can easily clear them. Now, you can also add 4* Mina Ashiro as she provides reliable buffs, and Isao Shinomiya for his reliable shields to protect the team from Kaiju attacks.
3. Boss level Kaiju-focused squad (Gen Narumi + Soshiro Hoshina + Reno Ichikawa + Mina Ashiro)
This specific squad setup is tailored to beat powerful Kaiju battles, with Gen Narumi’s destroying double PLTs being the main focus. Soshiro Hoshina can enhance his potential even more by boosting CRIT DMG and SPD bonus as a Battle Buddy. You can check out our tier list to learn more about both.

Reno thrives in this team with his Ice Crystal mechanics, which apply stacks that deal additional Ice damage whenever allies attack. Plus, his ult is great, as it not only applies CRIT rate to himself but also gives a chance to freeze enemies, and Mina’s support ties it all together, applying morale buffs while stacking with Hoshina’s CRIT bonuses.
