My Talking Tom 2 Plane Builder and Sky Race Guide: Tips and Tricks you need to know

Ready to fly?

My Talking Tom 2, with its latest update, introduces two exciting new features that are connected. Players can design and customize their own plane in the new Plane Builder, and then, if they’re up for a challenge, take it for a spin in the thrilling Sky Race, where Tom soars through colorful race tracks high above the clouds.

It’s a lot to take on board at once, so in this article, we’ve broken down the two new features step by step. First, I’ll guide you through building and customising an awesome plane for Tom to race in, and then we’ll provide you with some expert tips on how to race and, most importantly, how to win!

My Talking Tom 2 Plane Builder and Sky Race: Tips and Tricks explained

1. Build a Plane

To start building a plane in My Talking Tom 2, first visit Tom’s backyard, which you can access by tapping the plane button in the bottom-left corner of the screen. Then tap on the plane hovering behind Tom. Tom will hop aboard and fly to the next screen, where you’ll now see two new entry points – an aircraft hangar and a runway. Tap the aircraft hangar to start building your very own plane.

2. Choose and Design Your Helmet

Once inside the hangar, tap the helmet button pointing to Tom’s head. You’ll now be presented with three tabs. On the helmet tab, choose the style of helmet you want. Tap on each one to see how they look on Tom, then tap the paintbrush tab to add some color.

On the paintbrush tab, there are two rows of buttons: colors and tools. You can swipe left and right to browse through all of the different choices. Pick a color, then pick a tool. The pencil is for drawing thin lines and adding fine details.

The spray can add a cloud of color to your helmet. The paint can fill a whole area with color. The paintbrush is for painting thick, bold lines and shapes. And the eraser is for deleting the color you’ve already added (and then changed your mind about).

Once you’ve selected a color and tool, use your finger to add (or erase) color directly on the helmet. To rotate the helmet, swipe left or right on the circular arrows below it. Make sure you don’t miss a spot! Not only can you paint your helmet, you can also add stickers!

Tap on the stickers tab, then swipe left or right to browse the available designs. Once you’ve found a sticker you like, drag it onto the helmet and position it where you want it. You can resize it with the slider and fine-tune its placement with your finger. When you’re happy with your design, tap the checkmark in the top-right corner to save your creation.

3. Select and Design the Body of your Plane

Choosing and designing the body of your plane works in the same way as choosing and designing your helmet. Start by selecting the shape, and then the base color scheme. Next, use the paintbrush tab to add some customized, more detailed color (don’t forget to rotate the plane so that you don’t miss a spot!).

4. Customize your Tail and Vapor Trail

When you tap on the tail button on the plane hangar screen, you’ll notice that there’s one additional tab – the vapor trail tab. So, once you’ve selected a shape, chosen a color scheme, added some custom color, and slapped on a sticker or two, tap the vapor trail tab and select a vapor trail. If you can’t decide what color you want, just go for the rainbow trail and have every color at once.

5. Don’t Forget the Wings

Without wings, your plane is just a chair. So, tap on the wings button and go through the same selecting, coloring, and stickering process as for the helmet, body, and tail. Don’t worry if you see the wings flapping; they’re supposed to do that.

Also, in case you’re wondering, you just need to customize one wing, and everything you do will automatically be copied to the other one (so at least this part of your plane will be symmetrical).

6. Power Up your Plane

The fifth and final button on the plane hangar screen is the power-up button, which resembles a shield. Tap that and you’ll be given a choice of four power-ups. Unlike everything else you’ve customized up to now, these aren’t just cosmetic.

Each one has a different effect when you activate it during a Sky Race. If you change your mind at the last second, you get another chance to pick a power-up just before the start of each race.

  • Pie Launcher: This launches a pie in front of you. If it hits another racer, then they will spin out of control for a few seconds.
  • Bungee Plunger: Shoot out a plunger on the end of a bungee rope. It attaches to rival planes, pulling them back so that you can get ahead.
  • Afterburners: This gives you a short burst of thrust, making you fly faster for a few valuable seconds.
  • Shield: Protects your plane so that the next time you crash into an obstacle, the shield absorbs the impact and you don’t lose any speed.

7. Enter a Sky Race

To enter your unique, customized plane into a Sky Race, tap the runway next to the plane hangar. Or, if you’re already in the plane hangar, tap the race button in the bottom-right corner. You can also enter a new race straight after completing one race by tapping the race button in the bottom-right corner of the podium screen.

On the next screen, choose which Race you want to enter. And on the screen after that, you can change which power-up you have equipped. Once you’re all set, tap the start button.

How to win a Sky Race in My Talking Tom 2

Now that you know how to build a plane and enter it into a Sky Race, all you need are some quick racing tips to ensure you get 1st place on the podium (and maximum Flight Tokens) every time:

1. Keep your Finger on the Joystick

The joystick at the bottom of the screen isn’t just for steering; it’s also your plane’s throttle. And that means you have to hold it if you want to go faster. So, even on the straight sections of the course, keep your finger on the screen.

2. Use the Power Ups

You already know what the power-ups do, but to use them, you have to collect them. Look out for your chosen power-up floating in the middle of the track and fly into it. There’s no power-up button to activate a power-up – they simply activate automatically when you pick them up.

If you’re leading the race when you collect the Pie Launcher or Bungee Plunger, they won’t activate straight away. Instead, they’ll wait until an opponent is ahead of you before automatically activating.

3. Hit the Speed Boosts

As well as power-ups, you’ll also see speed boosts on the track. These are glowing yellow circles with arrows inside them, and when you fly into them, you’ll get a strong burst of speed. Very useful, especially if you don’t have afterburners equipped on your plane.

4. Avoid the Obstacles

The main thing that separates winners from losers in My Talking Tom 2’s Sky Race game is not crashing. In most races, so long as you don’t crash, you’ll probably win. On Races 1, 2, and 4, watch out for windmills, airships, and chimneys, and on Race 3, towers and anvils are added into the mix. But whatever the obstacle, the same tip always applies: steer to avoid it!
