Pokémon Unite Goodra Guide: Movesets

As expected, Goodra has a combination of Dragon-type and several other types of moves, which proves how flexible Goodra was in terms of movesets, in the anime. Here are the details of those movesets in Pokémon Unite.

basic attack pikachu

Basic Attack

It becomes a boosted attack with every third attack. Also, if this Pokémon recovers HP due to its Ability, its next basic attack becomes a boosted attack. Boosted attacks have the user spew slime, and if the slime hits opposing Pokémon from a distance, a Gooey slowing effect is applied to those Pokémon. If the slime hits opposing Pokémon from close range, it deals increased damage. If this Pokémon applies a Gooey slowing effect to an opposing Pokémon and then hits that Pokémon with a basic attack while the effect is active, all of this Pokémon’s move cooldowns are reduced.

Passive- Gooey

When the Pokémon is hit by an attack, there is a set chance it will spread slime around itself. The slime damages opposing Pokémon and applies a Gooey slowing effect to them for a short time. The Gooey slowing effect decreases movement speed and can stack up to four times per opposing Pokémon. When the Pokémon with this Ability enters tall grass, it continually recovers HP for a set amount of time or until it leaves the tall grass. This HP recovery effect goes on cooldown after it’s triggered.

Ability 1- Bubble

This Water-type move has the Pokemon cover itself in a bubble, granting it a shield for a short time. When the shield’s effect duration ends or if this move is used again, the bubble shield pops, dealing damage to nearby opposing Pokémon and decreasing their movement speed.

  • Type- Area
  • CD- 6s

Ability 1 upgrades at Level

At Level 5, Bubble evolves into either of these 2 moves based on your choice:

Muddy WaterDragon Pulse
This Water-type move has the user splash muddy water around itself, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon in the area of effect and applying an effect to them that decreases the amount of damage they deal for a short time. If the user deals damage to opposing Pokémon with this move, the user’s Defense and Sp. Def is increased for a short time. This effect can stack up to four times.

Type-Area
CD- 4.5s
This Dragon-type move has the user unleash a shock wave in the designated direction, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon it hits. If the centre of the shock wave hits opposing Pokémon, it deals increased damage to them and restores the user’s HP. HP is also restored when this move deals damage to opposing Pokémon that have a Gooey slowing effect applied to them.

Type-Recovery
CD-7.5s
Upgrade: Further increases the user’s Defense and Sp. Def when this move deals damage to opposing Pokémon.Upgrade: Restores more HP if the centre of the shock wave hits opposing Pokemon that have a Gooey slowing effect applied to them.

Ability 2- Tackle

  • Type- Hindrance
  • CD- 10s

This normal-type move has the user charge towards the opposition, dealing damage and throwing them too. If this move hits, the user bounces back a little bit.

Ability 2 upgrades at Level

At Level 8, Tackle evolves into either of these 2 moves based on your choice:

Power WhipAcid Spray

This Grass-type move has the user lash out with its horns in the designated direction, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon in the area of effect and decreasing their movement speed. If this move hits distant opposing Pokémon, those Pokémon are pulled toward the user.

Type- Hindrance
CD- 8s

This Poison-type move has the user spit acidic fluid at an opposing Pokémon, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon in an area of effect centred on the Pokémon it hits and decreasing their movement speed. If this move is used again, the user charges in the designated direction and damages the opposing Pokémon it hits. If this charge hits an opposing Pokémon that has been marked by acidic fluid, that Pokémon is thrown, and damage is also dealt to nearby opposing Pokémon.

Type- Hindrance
CD- 8s
Upgrade: It also applies a Gooey slowing effect when this move hits.Upgrade: Also applies a Gooey slowing effect to opposing Pokémon that receive damage from either the acidic fluid or the charge.

Unite Move- Right as Rain

Causes rain to fall around the user, gradually restoring the user’s HP. While this move is active, the user’s basic attacks become boosted attacks.

Best items for Goodra in Pokemon Unite

Further in this guide, we will discuss the best-held items for Goodra in Pokémon Unite, as well as its best battle item.

Best held Items

ItemWhy is it useful
Rocky Helmet It’d increase Goodra’s defence against physical attacks and HP. The item’s passive effect also works well with Gooey’s slowing effects.
Slick SpoonThis item adds more Sp. Atk. and gives Goodra Sp. Def. penetration, raising its damage output further. It also gives a nice amount of HP for more sustainability.
Focus BandFocus Band improves Goodra’s durability through increased defences and gives the Pokemon a survivability tool.

Based on gameplay and suggestions from many sources, these 3 may be the best item build for Goodra. However, players can also try the following builds.

  • Rocky Helmet, Buddy Barrier, Aeos Cookie
  • Slick Spoon, Buddy Barrier, Assault Vest
  • Rocky Helmet, Buddy Barrier, Assault Vest
  • Aeos Cookie, Score Shield, Focus Band

One should focus mainly on the tanky build for Goodra.

Best Battle Items

  • Potion- It provides Goodra with an active source of healing that can be used while fighting, especially with its healing abilities, Potion can be a good choice.
  • Eject Button: It gives Goodra an instant tool to shift position for any purpose. It’s also a decent tool to set up moves like Muddy Water.

Best Emblem Build

  • x6 Green
  • x4 White
    • Stats increased: HP, Sp. Atk.
    • Stats decreased: Atk, Crit-Hit.

Note that, the emblem colour and stats here are suggestions only. The builds are still viable even without the suggested emblems. However, one must try to maintain the positive stats as much as possible, by trying other combinations too.

Pokemon Unite Goodra Gameplay Tips

Our Pokémon Unite Goodra guide includes the perfect game plan for the early and late games during Unite battles.

Early Game

Secure as many wild Pokemon so that you can level up quickly to the earliest. If you’re at the bottom lane, prioritize taking Indeedees for more exp. You can try to get early kills or score when you can but don’t overextend. Choose Tackle as your first ability then farm the Bunnelbies along the lane. Using the other move Bubble allows Goodra to gain a shield that pops quickly when used twice. Dash towards a crowd of enemies with Tackle, then activate Bubble. Pop the bubble to hit surrounding enemies and slow them down. This combo is useful for taking down wild Pokemon or when chasing an isolated enemy.

Players may also learn Tackle first to get to Xatu quickly. Then clear the first wave of jungle camps and reach level 5 to get Muddy Water or Dragon Pulse. Help the top lane first by securing Altaria and Swablus, getting kills, and scoring points. After that, clear the second wave of jungle camps and reach at least level 7 to learn a hindrance move upgrade. Then help the bottom lane by securing Altaria and Swablus, getting kills, and scoring points. If possible, reach level 9 before or when Regice, Registeel, or Regirock spawns.

Late Game

Use Muddy Water to deal AoE damage on enemy Pokemon surrounding you, as well as gain EXP from Altaria and Swablus. Also, help allies secure Regieleki when it appears at the top lane, otherwise secure Regice, Registeel, or Regirock when the objective spawns at the bottom lane. Stick with your team to hunt targets, secure objectives, and push lanes. Reach level 13 before or when Rayquaza spawns for a fully-upgraded moveset. Also, make sure to have Right as Rain available when Rayquaza spawns to help your allies win a teamfight and secure Rayquaza.

Goodra is a Defender Pokemon that is equipped with movesets that lets it stay in fights longer. Thanks to the effects of Gooey, Goodra can regain health by simply hiding in tall grass. Another health-recovering move is Right as Rain, which is Goodra’s Unite Move that heals itself when used, and all attacks are boosted while the Unite Move is in effect. These moves are extremely important when it comes to securing Rayquaza, so make sure to have Right as Rain ready for use when the objective spawns. Avoid getting cornered and hard disablers, then use your Unite Move to heal yourself once the enemy team’s Unite Moves are already on a cooldown.

Positioning of Goodra

Try to go for the top or bottom lane, being a defender, and relatively stronger in the early stage.

Our Pokémon Unite guide will also look at the combination of Goodra with other Pokémon during Unite battles.

Best Synergies with Goodra

PokémonSynergy Benefits
ComfeyWhile Goodra is strong enough to fight enemies alone, a supporter ally like Comfey can buff, heal, or shield Goodra at times, especially when pushing lanes and swiftly securing objectives.
MachampGoodra can also use a helping hand from its All-Rounder allies. Pokemon like Machamp are equipped with hard-hitting combos that can soak up damage, overwhelm enemies with a few hits, and possibly stun or disable them from setting up their attacks, helping Goodra.
WigglytuffGoodra works well with allies that come with disabling and hindrance abilities. Ally Pokemon like Wigglytuff can stall enemies, and stun them for a short period of time, helping Goodra do the job.

Pokémon Unite Goodra Guide: Tips, tricks and strategies

This guide will also discuss some tips and tricks for playing the defender Goodra in Pokémon Unite.

  • Level up to the final form as soon as possible. Full power can be achieved only in the final evolutionary form.
  • Goodra’s passive ability Gooey activates once Goodra takes damage. It splashes goo around nearby enemies and slows them down, so timing your usage of Tackle lets Goodra temporarily disable an enemy while also slowing them down.
  • Another effect of Gooey is HP recovery which only activates when Goodra hides in tall grass. This is useful when Goodra needs to heal and stay longer to assist its allies in securing objectives and push lanes. Hide and ambush your opponents from the grass.
  • Note that Goodra synergizes well with Supporter Pokemon allies, especially Comfey since it provides more sustainability with its healing abilities and its Unite move perfectly synergises with Goodra’s ability.
  • Goodra’s Acid Spray is another damaging move that slows down an enemy when it hits. After marking its target, Goodra can charge towards any direction it pleases. This move is useful when Goodra is chasing an enemy. When facing enemies that are tough or have high defence, fight them within an allied goal zone to stall for time.
  • Once the UNITE move Right as Rain is activated, Goodra gains a boosted attack effect which can be utilized by using combos. Chaining abilities like Acid Spray to slow enemies down with Dragon Pulse‘s damage and health recovery when it hits an enemy under the Gooey effect allows Goodra to effectively overwhelm enemies.
  • Also, Goodra relies heavily on boosted attacks to hasten its move’s cooldown and deal damage, so be extremely wary of crowd-control attacks from opponents. Always be mindful of activating Goodra’s UNITE Move, Right as Rain, because Goodra is not unstoppable during its effect duration.
  • Lastly, players must avoid using it much in Ranked Matches until they master all of its moves and playing style. They should use offline mode or Standard Battles as their Practice Arena.

Final Thoughts

To be honest, Goodra is that ‘immovable object’, that the irresistible force wants to move. Furthermore, the arrival of another defender after a long time, has all the defensive-minded players excited. Now the wait for Lapras begins, as Umbreon is also waiting after that to join as a defender.
